Much love for both. That being said, I think they’re both the right drummer for Slipknot, in the time that they’re in. Joey will forever hold a place in my heart for his drumming in beginning Slipknot. On the flip side, I don’t have anything negative to say about Jay’s drumming in current Slipknot.

*you gotta see his in studio one & his recent play through with their new tracks, also check out evgeny novikov. He’s on par with jay & part of a band called slaughter to prevail, they’re basically the death core version of slipknot cause that’s their idol*

You know who Jay's dad is, right? Max Weinberg, of the Max Weinberg 7, the band for the Conan O'Brian show?

I could never pick between the 2 i love both of them for different reasons with both of them having very different styles but both filling that slipknot sound very well. With that being said a well experienced drummer could play any of there songs the true talent comes in that is that they are the ones writing these beats for the song and i think thats where each joey and jay differ but both are amazing at what they do and write for sure.

Imagine being 17 and only been playing for about 3 year's, and you get to fyld in for your father on a full Bruce Springsteen concert tour. Where you not only need to know his stuff, but 2-300 other artists that Bruce might pick to play as bonus songs during a show. Sure he got offered the gig because he's family and he has known Bruce Springsteen and the East Street Band all his life, but they did tell him if he screws up, he's fired.

The Joey/Jay discussion; as far as I'm aware, Joey would play in a way that allowed the other members to chime in. Specifically, Joey would leave empty space for the other band members to have their own time. I THINK he wrote the songs themselves to do that. So in the essence of being an integral part of Slipknot, Joey wins. That being said, if we take into account his medical condition, Jay has more potential and time to be better than Joey was. I don't know if Jay does any writing, but he was, as far as I'm aware, instructed by Joey himself for drumming. Isn't it every parent/instructor's wish that their pupil will one day surpass them?
Best at this moment in time with all that, probably Joey. But Jay has potential.

I think they're both AMAZING drummers. But just like a new vocalist coming into a band it will bring a new dynamic. Jay doesn't have as much force on the drums as Joey did (in my opinion) and the sound was just unique on Joey's part.

They'll only be one Joey. But what I will say is Jay has taken the baton and ran with it. Super impressive in his own right, but Joey started it🎉
