On the Iowa tour they had a signing session before the show and Joey was the only to reach out for a handshake. That was pretty cool of him, small things like that can have leave a lasting impression on fans. RIP
This is my favourite Slipknot track! I don't think it's fair to compare Joey and Jay; Jay is a great replacement and really skilled drummer, but Joey was an amazing musician all round, one of those rare geniuses, so creative and unique 🖤🖤

I live in Iowa Joey used to come into the bar I worked at when he was in town. Always treated me with respect no matter how big they got and had the craziest stories. R.I.P to the legend.

Joey Jordison was more than just a great drummer. insane how quick and clean he was around his Pearl kit. played Paiste Rudes in Slipknot later changed to mostly Paiste Signatures.
Recommend reacting to 'Desperate Cry' from the Sepultura Live in Barcelona 1991 concert. Igor Cavalera was an absolute beast. one the best sounding live shows ever.

Pete Sandoval is why we have many special drummers in real metal today and Joey idolised him also. Pete was the pioneer of the blast beat and everyone modelled their footwork on his amazing speed/precision. A game changer.

Joey had speed and power, jay has speed and finesse. Both are great technical drummers and it’s okay that they are different.

Joey was way more creative and innovative than jay has ever been. Just listen to what he does on the self titled album, Iowa and vol. 3 and compare it to anything with Jay and it's quite obvious who the most creative drummer is. R.I.P Joey you absolute legend!

Jay is a great drummer, but he can not hold a candle to what #1 did. Joey literally paved the way for metal drummers with his style and innovation. I think jay is a good fit for what slipknot is doing today, but it’s a different band to me. Joey will forever be the 🐐 of metal drummers for me.

No question, Joey jordison was Slipknot. Is one of the founding members it's not Slipknot without Joey. That's the sad thing about bands they want to hang on too long. When band members better recognized as the face of a band and they leave or pass on, it's not the same Band anymore is it. Joey and Paul gone, it's not Slipknot

Jay cant even compare. Joey is the greatest drummer for a solidified band, ever. He passed his torch and anyone that knows, knows who the new King is.

Slipknot would be nothing without Joey. That being said I think jay is an amazing replacement to the band and I love watching him play just as much.
as much as i love Jay and have huge respect for him to jump in as Joeys replacement my answer to your question is this. When you hear Joey you know it's him playing straight away. It's like with Korn. Many People tried to play something similar or copy and always failed. He was one of a kind.

Joey vs. Jay... Diamond Dave vs. Sammy... Bon vs. Brian...Paul vs. Dave. There are no wrong answers but the OG bandmate usually gets my vote for no other reason than they played or originally made the songs that became famous or brought acclaim to the bands in the first place. All the replacement players were or are outstanding in their own right, though.

To answer you who's better question. I just have to listen to the first two albums. It's not even close. Joey WAS slipknot to me. He energy is unmatched. Jay is by no means a bad drummer but JOEY is # 1
For me Joey is on mount rushmore of metal drummers with Eloy Casagrande, Mike Portnoy. You can be amazing world class drummer but still not legendary like them.
i might be 6 months late but Joey is OVERALL a better drummer. Jay is a awesome drummer too for what he has with slipknot and all his achievements. But Joey is a one of a kind type of drummer that others can not easily reciprocate.
