    You make the best case reviews on youtube in my opinion. I like Linus but most of the time he doesnt have hardware installed in his cases compared to you and when you see the finished build you get a picture of how it would look like for you. Keep up the good work

    This case should get an update.
    I really want to see :
    1. 3X120mm fan + rad support on top.
    2. Better GPU clamp.
    3. Improved cable routing options.
    4. Lastly, maybe a fresh, more aggressive (or simple) design.
    If you're from Corsair, and you're reading this, please let them know.

    Another great review from HardwareCanucks, as we have come to expect it has the fantastic voiceover that doesn't tiptoe around faults with the product, backed up with excellent camera work, music and editing. From any other tech channel this level of work would stand out, but with these guys its so normal it slips under the radar. Keep it up guys, it is well appreciated!
    Moving on to the case, I actually really like the idea, and implementation features like the rubber grommet placement and thumbscrews that stay with the panel really do help set corsair apart. Unfortunately of late build quality has also set them apart, and I personally belive that while they try to make all there cases to suit everyone they won't fix this issue. I think they should clearly separate two ranges of products, affordable but still well thought out products for gamers and everyday PC's and a line of massively more expensive products that have the build quality that both corsair and silver stone cases used to be so well known for.
    Build quality aside I feel there are only actually two real design issues with the case. Firstly the drive cages, they look great in footage of drive installation untill you actually realise you can't plug them in from the side you insert the sled. Thus currently them require either removal of both the side and top panels (for 2.5"), or removal of the side panel and access to the rear of the case (for 3.5"). I'm not going to beat around the bush here, this is downright stupid, especially since if the drive sleds just inserted the other way into the support cage, then only the rear side panel need be removed to swap drives in EITHER of the cages. This also would work well if corsair where to use the door style side panels they showed off on the 760t, so to change a storage drive you'd only need to open the door, unplug the drive and remove the sled. The stiffening kit they used probably wouldn't go amiss either given the Air240's flex, but I'd honestly prefer to see a little thicker metal for the money.
    Alternately Corsair could go all out on the issue, providing external doors and prewired plugs in both locations to allow the HDD and SSD cages to function as hot swap bays. Of course this latter option costs money, while reversing the sleds and just excluding the thumbscrew secured flaps would save it, so the question would arise again on whether they where trying to target a regular or enthusiast market with this case.
    The second design issue with the case is the height. By adding 21mm corsair could have added a 5th PCIe expansion slot, making the case more suitable for duel graphics cards, allowed duel fans on the bottom of the case when a mATX board is used, given room for a grommet below the motherboard for the front panel I/O ect to be routed, stopped the tubing of a front radiator preventing one of the two top fan slots being used AND allowed the motherboard power to be routed cleanly without being crushed by the 3.5" drive cage. Now that's more than I can say sequentually without taking a breath and given the case is looks a tad odd being so much longer than it is tall anyway less than a inch of additional height seems a very small tradeoff.
    But I guess all this just summarizes my long term fear with corsair, all there cases are becoming the same grey mix of price vs quality, conservative appearance vs gaming bling and just generally loosing the radical design, innovation and clear product focus that used to define them as a company. I feel for this reason we need to put some pressure on corsair to polarize there case lineup, and get a bit bolder with some of their ideas. This may sound like I'm just wishing the old days back, but thats not it, the case markets is far more competitive than ever, but seriously, one of the flagship manufacturers bigger case releases this year just passed without a single reviewer I follow either giving it there seal of approval or deciding to build in it, which is as far as I know a first for any corsair case that not a re-skin of an existing product. This is huge news because it shows the darker side to the competitive market, manufactures trying to compete for sales rather than spending the time to build a niche in the way that originally defined them. That flop of a launch should have been a wake up call, but I fear its fallen on death ears...RIP Corsair's innovation, you used to be a legend.

    Well, I would argue that this deserves a dam good award because of the price on Amazon of $79 for white and $75 for black, as well as cheaper with rebates on newegg, where it can be had for $65 for white and $59 for black!

      Its good if you're using itx and check to make sure your gpu fits

  • @TheLunarFX
    @TheLunarFX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Built it, used it. Here's how it goes: I've got a H100i v2 front mount intake with 2 SP120 fans, and 2 AF120 fans exhaust out the top. Playing PUBG my CPU only ever reaches 54C but my GPU is getting a little toastier maxing at 75C. I could put a 80mm on the back to aid maybe a few degrees, but I'm not. I ave matx in this so I can't do bottom fans which would be a HUGE advantage. So if you haven't bought your mobo yet, consider an ITX if you want cooler temps. Looks nice but don't expect to have a ton of room for overclocking on your GPU. With small size comes compromises. Personally, i want to run a little cooler so I may be migrating out of this case. My GPU doesn't wobble and I even have a broken clip on my mobo for the slot: EVGA 1080 SC.

    This case is a definite respond from Corsair Designing team that they have been listening. However, you are right that the bottom half should a slight more room to accommodate 3 more fans even though with Micro ATX setup. Other than the quality issues, I think Corsair design team had finally nailed the cube case and I wouldn't mind if they have incorporate the same design WITH better quality build to their upcoming 540 refresh (if should they chose to make them). I almost bought the 540 for my next build if did had a complete dust-proof case and more 3.5" mechanical HDD instead of just SSD cages.

    I liked this case a lot. It's generally really well-thought-out. It only had one issue, though, and that one issue was critical yet without advertisement from the manufacturer: wider GPUs will not allow the side panel to close. I learned this the hard way.

      Currently running a Phenom case. I wouldn't buy one again. It's a pain in the ass to route cables well, even with a smaller modular PSU I've had to really had to force the PSU in. I'm finding it to be a bit of dust magnet. The side panel USB ports have both died from very little use (connected my old case's external usb ports to the motherboard headers and they work fine). I love the visual aesthetic of the Phenom, but I really pretty much dislike it in every other regard.

  • @SteveMavronis
    @SteveMavronis 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like this case, especially in black if oriented window upwards. I would also like to see a silver/black edition like the 540 series has. The card clamp 'feature' isn't a quality issue. They are just trying to make it as tool-less as possible to attract beginner builders. One can still screw heavy long graphics cards down as most would do anyway. At least they give you the option so no foul there. My only gripe with any small form factor cases is not must room for high performance CPU air coolers if overclocking the processor, especially in this case which promotes air flow for cooling. Beginners are usually wary of liquid cooling in their first build even though they are 'mostly' reliable, so I can understand their feelings as I share them too.

    There's still something that can be an issue : not all GPU's fit and i'm not talking about the length, im talking about the width u can's use every 1060/70 card for ex. cuz the 6/8 etc. pin cable is pressing against the sidewindow although the Gigabyte G1 one does fit without a problem.

    • @GabbaTheGandalf

      Oh sry my bad, so i would suggest, that you look up the width's of both (the g1 and windf.) and if the windf. is thicker don't buy it (i don't know tho that's what i would do). It could be too thick and i wouldn't want to risk it (cuz then you would need to exchange it for another one and that would take some time and i hate waiting XD) i hope i could help tho.

    • @mihedinking7
      @mihedinking7 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the winforce is 121mm the g1 is 114. only 7mm difference. i think it will be fine. many sorces say 120mm is max gpu height. there has to be some more for cables so totally maybe 127mm ill try it anyways

    Using the HDD cage can make it difficult to put back in once 8pin connector is in. Need flat flat cables to help shove that cage in, or take a jigsaw to the cage cut a nice hole and lose one hdd slot and route cable easily through that way..

    really like the looks of it but, after having to deal with the flimsy Corsair C70 im not going near their cases for atleast two years.
    for a lesser price i switched to Define R4 one year ago that felt much better quality wise.
    it survived car travels and what not without chipping any paint.
    had to rma three units of H80i coolers due to faulty fans and bent fins (?) on the radiator.
    hope you guys know what i mean.
    corsair ram however seems to work so far on 5 builds from intel to amd.
    my personal experience with Corsair, not saying the brand is bad, just had a bad experience with them.

    "It can be inconvenient in some instances because you do have to have rear access"
    Surely you wouldn't take out or put in a HDD while the computer is still connected right? You'd have to take it off the desk and open the case up to reconnect a HDD anyway, so that isn't really an issue.

And the bitfenix prodogy if you want a good mitx build for watercooling. Full sized or mis towers the phanteks are great cases for customization and watercooling

    the case comes with three fans, and the h100i comes with two fans. so, say there is a mini itx board installed with a radiator in the front, and two exhaust fans on top. Also, since most long cards would be dividing airflow from the top..
    Should the third fan on the bottom ideally be exhaust or intake, and should it be near the back side of the case?
    I imagine elevating the case may help too.

    It's a beast of a case and I always wait on your reviews and pros and cons to make my pros and cons for each case. Im currently choosing the best case as of now, among ultra towers. TJ11 is out of my league, 600+ crowns is too much to pay, but that price might be roughly cut 1 year from now :)

    I have this case for my comp...kinda let down when i had to buy an external dvd reader to play some games like sims 3 expansions plus the front fans make alot of dust build up, every weak i have to clean it. Another annoying thing is that it heat up your room because of so many vent coming from every direction even if you have four fans and a water cooling system. If your buying this case it looks great to show off but requires a little more work.

      i went for the aerocool dead silence case "windowed version" because it has an optical drive and cardreader capability on the front of the case (and looks nice with 2 different colors) ... unfortunate ... because i wanted a small(er) cool case which wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg (budget was max 100 bucks only).
      But still.... the Corsair air 240 looks very cool for the price. Lian li etc are nice but just too expensive imo.

    Corsair Air 240 and Air 540 still the two best Corsair cases ever made. Don't like all the glass of the 280X or 680X. Too heavy. Would love to see an ATX 540X II with USB C and only one 5.25 inch drive. Could do it at about 14 lbs. No need for glass. Love the flimsy side panels of the 240 and 540.

  • @10ee
    @10ee 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The big issues with this case are 3.5" mechanicals getting heated up by the PSU below, and the limited height/clearance in the motherboard side. Like 90% of most current-gen waterblocks, top mounted ports will hit and scratch the window IF you are lucky enough to get the windowed side panel on. Even worse, you can't fit cards like the MSI Lightning, Asus Strix/Poseidon, or EVGA Classified in there. Big mistake on Corsair's part. While it's not quite as good-looking, and not as compact, the Fractal Node 804 is still the better choice IMHO. Good review nevertheless. Watched it a bit after the release.

    I used this case on a MATX system and ran into alot of problems, it would work and then it wouldn't. There was alot of inconsistency with this case. I looked at everything, CPU fan, Motherboard 24pin connector etc... The system would sometimes spin up and other times it wouldn't. Also my case arrived with 1 broken USB 3.0 port and 1 2.5" inch drive connector snapped when I was putting the drive in and the little metal prong things weren't in the right place. Overall I would not recommend this case for an MATX build, an ITX build might be better suited for this case

I just trying to figure out what can I swap out for the reservoir pump and tank. I was thinking maybe the 3.5 inch cages seeing I'm using 2 ssd and one 2.5 inch HDD. Need some opinion on this. Great review as always. I was looking for this but as expected I'm worried about build quality and GPU length. I ask a little help here (*****) because I can't decide for myself: Air 240, HAF XB, Node 804 or Prodigy M? I'm going to build a single GPU system for gaming and editing. No liquid cooling, just a 120mm AIO for the CPU. Any advice is very appreciated.

    Why is the Fractal Design Node 804 - which is ten dollars more expensive - considered a damn good value, while this is considered expensive? Is the quality of the side panels that cheap where it makes the case seem that overpriced?

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      TopRameen13 The NODE 804 is in the same mATX category but can do SO much more with regards to watercooling and storage. The 804 is about flexibility that the AIR 240 fails to deliver! So while the poor side panels is one of the factors this did not receive an award, it lacks the user flexibility that is offered by the 804.

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TopRameen13 glad it was helpful! Plasma Blazer it really depends! for minimalistic build using an AIO cooler, a few drives and if you like the looks, I'd say there's nothing wrong with the AIR 240! Each case has it's strengths! The 804 is slightly larger and cant be oriented differently, a unique feature found on the 240. If i was to watercool properly in such a form factor, the 804 is a no brainer!

  • @stoneddemonicpirate

    Quick questions, hopefully someone knows the answer: Ppl say the bottom intake fan positions do not have enough clearance for a standard 25mm thick fan when mATX board is being used. However, I'm wondering if one of the thinner 15mm fans would fit?
