I heard this song at a department store* in 2014. Every second the music entered my ear, my interest heightened. Sadly, I was in the last few seconds of the song. I grabbed my phone and recorded only 19 seconds of it hoping I could get the lyrics and search it for later. I listened to the recorded audio and could barely hear the lyrics because of the noise inside the store. I asked the customer service where I could ask for the title of the song that was previously played. They told me the operator was in a restricted area. After that, I just felt like my life was over (of course, I'm exaggerating). It was only after a year later in 2015 that I finally found it! I can't really recall how, but it was a huge relief. It's still my favorite song until now. I feel like the luckiest person. *SM department store in the Philippines (specifically in Bacolod City)
We can talk for hours And the line is still engaged Were not getting any closer You're too many miles away And I might as well be talking backwards Am I making any sense to you And they only thing that really matters Is the one thing that I can't seem to do When the night was over And the field was lit up bright And I want to tell you Nothing I said came out right And I might as well be talking backwards Am I making any sense to you And they only thing that really matters Is the…
Agreed, it has the metronomic sound of Velvet Underground and the melodic sense of The Beatles. Stone cold perfect. See also "Audrey's Curtains" by The Days and anything by East Village and the sole EP by Days titled "Downhill".
reminds me of summer. I've been listening to Real Estate since their first album, and every song they make, I love them more and more. Truly the perfect summer music, for me. Just lazily listen to this on summer afternoons.
I love this song, but I feel a lot of different things about it. I talked to a girl in November-December 2023 who was almost perfect for me. We spent a lot of time together and studied for all of our exams together. In uni, we were pretty much unbeatable. It looked like we were starting to feel something for each other as we became more interested in each other. And in fact, I fell head over heels in love with her. Nothing seemed impossible when I was with her. I had not been this happy in a long time. She met me in the strangest and darkest period of my life. Later, when we went on vacation, it all went down... Despite the fact that we texted every day, the distance hurt our relationship a lot. And for the New Year, I chose to tell her how I feel about her, and everything I feel for her... I really do not know whether to feel bad about what happened or grateful that it did, but she said "no". Because I was used to having her in my life at this point, I really hoped that we would at least stay friends. So imagine my shock when I saw her with someone else... I am still not sure if she should have put on this whole show about what is important to her, like what is going on with us or how much she values our relationship... She not only left me when I needed her the most, but she also chose to be with someone else instead. This song evokes a lot of emotions... Almost 5 months have passed since that moment, and I am still in pain... The worst part is that they seem to be moving on too quickly, as if they never cared about you... This song might have been a sign...
That moment when...your hear a new song from one of you favorite bands for the first time and...the song is so damn good and perfect, and it fills you with so much joy, happiness and satisfation that...that it almost puts you in tears! :D So many good vibrations!
If it's about the journey and not the destination, then heaven is driving up the Californian coast with the windows down, her hair dancing in the wind, listening to this song forever.
I agree. "Wave" is really beautiful. Both his album and Real Estate's albums are definitely my personal faves of 2014, so far. Good work by both artists!
this feels like one of those albums you put on while you're driving away in the sunset and you're just not coming back home, you're not coming back home not so soon...
Dreamy and full of feeling. Everything I love about this band captured in three minutes! and I love that the video is 100% about the band and recording - too many other bands' vids are full of false storyboarding based on some romantic shenanigans
Even though I'm an older Boomer whose tastes used to be progressive rock, some of Dylan and even a little acid rock, I like groups like this, the Eels and the Tallest Man on Earth. The songs are very good with excellent harmonies.
The movie starts out with this song, you hear it fade in as a tall mountain filled with trees is seen, the camera is moving following a car down a narrow road along the edge of the mountain, it gets closer till it’s cuts into the car, where you see a group of friends fooling around laughing and passing around snacks. I hope someone takes this idea and makes it into a cinematic masterpiece using all this bands music

In case anyone was wondering what the video was all about, you're pretty much getting live footage of them recording the album in Wilco's studio! A super distinct privilege!
I love this I can't stop listening! Its so good to see these guys can stay true to their sound without sounding stale at all and make really great songs. I can't wait to hear what the whole album sounds like.
Saw them play at Maxwell's in Hoboken bout 4 years ago couple months before Days came out. They stood in the crowd with everyone watchin the openers with everyone else it was rad. Since then they've gained a shit ton of fans its pretty cool to see
Just checking out these guys after reading the great article in todays Bergen Record. I just love everything I have heard so far! I also love the Atlas cover!! I worked at Alexander's in the early 70's. (In the record dept.!)
there are 4 folks who doesn't like this amazing and wonderful work.maybe the people who push the button dislike are deaf or maybe or other problems -i just don't understand at least more than 40k folks have a good taste of music
I don’t know if these bands are like Real Estate, and I’m not sure you won’t know, but here’s some suggestions: 1. Sasami - The Greatest 2. Big Thief - Shark Smile 3. Destroyer - Your Blood 4. 10 years ago guys.. No more Carlz, no more Gorilla vs Bear, No more hipster run off, no blog radio. What an end to a seemingly undocumented time in music. Stay in those tributaries.

This one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Hands down.

This song could have easily been extended to ten minutes and I still would have loved every second of it.

This song inspired me to stop stalling and finally ask this girl I really liked to go out with me. We're married now.
oh man this is an incredibly underrated comment. cheers mate!
I got that same determination from smoking weed one night. True story. I hardly ever smoke but that time it cleared my mind.
Omg i am so happy for you my frnd :)
All the best.
Thats beautiful man congrats
That's beautiful sir

That is literally the exact reaction I had. My smile grew bigger with every second, until my brain broke. So good.
Real Estate make my heart happy.
I'm playing this song going down the highway on a sunny afternoon and my heart is absolutely exploding with pure love.
I highly recommend you guys to check out the band Wild Nothings if you like Real Estate.
+Kartikeya Srivastava -- Good suggestion. Also check out DIIV.
+Kartikeya Srivastava can't see the similarity myself other than they're both brilliant.
Thomas Walsh Glad I could be of some help :)
+Kartikeya Srivastava Waw thank you so much for this discovery I am really digging this band !

Love the simple catchy little guitar riff that starts at :14 and pops up throughout the song.
In context this song seems like it’s more about friendship than romance, makes it very potent.
Nice comment
listen for the million-th times and still loved it.
remember when the first album came out; that thing got me through so many new england summers. happy to have this too
another exceptional song from this band... so glad I discovered their music... just my style
Finally the spring arrived and this song brought it. Wish you come to Madrid!
this feels like one of those albums you put on while you're driving away in the sunset and you're just not coming back home, you're not coming back home not so soon...

Beautiful harmony throughout the second verse . . .
I love Real Estate's style, it's great to see they haven't changed it like so many bands seem to do
Well, some like to experiment and try other genres that they like, and to change style can be a part of developing. It's a natural artistic progress.
RayasNegroOvejas and Real Estate has definitely done this

Another band in this vein is Young The Giant from OC. Really melodic harmonies and great lyrics. like Cough Syrup
