  • Welcome to my channel, where I tackle common issues faced by Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 owners. In this video, we dive into a notorious problem with the rear valve block of the air suspension on our Land Rover Discovery 4 / Land Rover LR4. I will show you how to solve it by only replacing the O-rings.
    The rear valve block is a crucial component of the Discovery 4's air suspension system. Over time, the O-rings within the valve block can deteriorate, causing air leaks and resulting in suspension malfunctions. This issue can lead to a sagging rear end, uneven ride height, or even suspension failure.
    Fortunately, replacing the O-rings of the rear valve block can remedy this problem without breaking the bank. I'll walk you through the entire process and providing step-by-step instructions.
    Have a great Sunday,
    Peter

    Hi Peter, greetings from Australia. I had a similar issue with my front suspension. I rebuilt the valve blocks ( only the front and centre) I didn’t do the rear as it looked a rather unpleasant job as your video confirmed. After I done the job and was testing the suspension the left front air bag on the strut failed (got a hole in it) I ended up replacing all the struts on all 4 corners, the ride is fantastic and it wasn’t too hard of a job. Keep up the good work. Thanks Paul.

      Hello @Paul, many greetings to Australia and thank you for your comment!
      In hindsight, I must say, the work or the removal of the rear valve block looks worse than it actually is! You just have to have some patience, then it works without problems ;)
      I also believe that the exchange of the air struts is not so difficult, however, the nuts could be a problem if they have not been loosened for a long time. Have you been able to easily loosen all the bolts or nuts? Which air struts did you buy, original LR or replica from e.g. Arnott?
      Many greetings from Austria,
      Peter

      @@notthatkindofachannel , No issues with loosening the nuts , we don’t have really that much corrosion here due to our climate. The most difficult part of the whole job is tightening the bottom nut to the torque as you need the vehicle on the ground so the suspension is settled. I purchased BWI struts from Island 4x4 in the UK. Apparently BWI purchased Delphi a few years ago, the struts do indicate that they are made in the UK.
      Thanks Paul.

    Hi Peter
    Job, well done… good to see that the valve block can be stripped down and serviced, but I think I’ll wait for the issue to raise its head before I go in 😂 Appreciate your time and efforts making these videos. Cheers Len

    Hi Peter, nice job as usual. I would rather prefer to change the whole valve block with a new one instead

      Hello @angelo, thank you very much! If the problem occurs again, then the whole block will be replaced. But since I still had O-rings, I tried it with this solution for now ;) All the best, Peter

    My 2014 LR4 air suspension is just getting back to normal height after few minutes. For example, if I put it in the lower height, it will go to normal height after 0-10 minutes. The same thing when I put it in the higher height, it will go back to normal height after 0-10 minutes. What you guys think?

    Nice video.
    Did you notice the small bulge on your rear brake hose (lower front side, close to the crimping / bracket). You can see it at 3:08 in the video and even more clear at 3:56. You should replace it and check all other hoses.

      Hi Rob, thanks for your comment and the hint with the hose, I'll look into that asap! Many greetings and have a nice Sunday, Peter

      Hey Rob, good spot… I’ve just replaced all of mine (2016 Landmark) as had the same issue but on front near side.

    Hi Peter. Thanks for the video. I was unsure where the rear valve block was located - now I know! :). I noticed you have an iKamper roof-top-tent and that you can suspend it from your ceiling. I'm looking to do the same. Perhaps you could do a video on how you chose that RTT, mounting to your Disco, and how you built the crane to store the RTT? That would be great to see!

      @notthatkindofachannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @Scott Sutherland, thank you so much! I can tell you in advance that the roof tent will be lifted with a Thule roof box lift and stowed that way over the winter. It will be attached to the Frontrunner roof rack using a quick release, so there is no need for the tedious screwing. Many greetings, Peter

    • @notthatkindofachannel
      @notthatkindofachannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @Miro Arva, 100% I was not sure if this would solve the problem. However, I had the same problem on the front axle and since still O-rings from the set about warm, I tried my luck, because it could not get worse 😉 Best regards, Peter

    Hi Peter :) Quick side question...what is the height of your carport? I want to build one and want to make sure a rack & tent will fit. Thanks for the good content!

    • @notthatkindofachannel
      @notthatkindofachannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, the height of our carport is 2.6m. If I had known that the car would be so high, I would have made it maybe 10 cm higher. But it works out, even with the spotlights, which are about 8cm high. Best, Peter

      @@notthatkindofachannel thank you Peter. I have a RRS which is a bit lower, but still, I probably will need to add some height still :)

    Hallo Peter, sind diese O-Ringe nur aus England zu beziehen?

    • @notthatkindofachannel

      Hi @Martin-F5, ja leider! Allerdings bekommst du auch alle benötigten O-Ringe auf einmal. Daher rentiert sich das mEn schon, also im Vergleich zu den neuen Ventilblöcken. Beste Grüße, Peter
