It has been really satisfying to see your subscriber ship climb up to nearly 1/2 a million! Great job in all regards. Your editing is outstanding, music, lighting, the equipment you use, etc. A break-in is a very personal affront and gives an unexpected feeling of vulnerability. I've been through it myself, lost 10's of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and thankfully didn't end up shooting anyone. I know you've taken the proper precautions. Thanks again Sean, great work.

I hope to never miss a single video, regardless of its content. Your advice about three months planning is good for everyone no matter where we live or work. When you were finished, the first thing I thought of was how I could preserve dog and cat food. I believe if I vacuum seal it , I will be able to care for them easily.

This is great Shawn! Friday evening, relaxing after work and a glass of my favorite whiskey. On top of that A new episode from My Self Reliance!? In awe how this spot in the forest, fast becoming your own homestead. Have YT-subscriptions all over the place but seeing your progress with the cabin and kitchen totally make this my favorite channel on this platform. Cali sure is a big helper and companion on this build. After the kitchen is done you should invite Doug, Joe and Martin up there and do a gourmet food-video LOL. Have a great weekend, thumbs up from Sweden!

I keep hearing on U-Tube that ever household should have two years supply of food and a water source. My wife and I started doing that a couple of years ago . Just about any dry good like beans , rice , sugar , salt , noodles , flour , corn meal , and oats can be vacuum sealed and kept for a long time . My wife cans chicken , deer meat , pork , beaf , soup , gumbo , jellies , jams , peas , beans , tomatoes , and just about anything else you can think of . Canned fish like tuna , salmon, sardines , and other canned meats is good to store for emergencies . When a disaster hits like the hurricane that hit Texas last year the grocery stores can’t supply enough food to last over a day of two . If the crisis last for weeks or months it would be impossible to get food . Just thought I would share that information with you and your subscribers . Anyway I enjoy your program and look forward to watching it every week .

Nice roof! Nicer endwall on the oven enclosure, great touches!! Looking forward to the rest of the kitchen build.
Trespassers suck. I've been pretty lucky with that.
Your mention about self reliance got me thinking, "what measures should I take that I've not thought of". I do have an RV trailer that is solar powered and would be livable for months. The truck to tow it does need gas and we, the humans, need water and food. "Be prepared" is always a good model.

Hey Shawn, I was thinking , you said it was raining the night you heard noise outside the cabin. Could it be some hunters looking for a place to get out of the rain and though your cabin was empty? Just thinjing. Can't wait to see you fire up your oven and see you cooking. Looking good Shawn .

Oh! And for the security issue--I know you have game cameras--maybe set one up coming up your driveway so it'll get license plates if they choose to come back. Maybe one pointed at the front door too. Best of luck!

  • @Crewsy
    @Crewsy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The organic nature of the kitchen roofline lends itself very well to the flexibility of a cedar shingle roof.
I originally had concerns about you using firewood as part of your form to build the oven but you managed to persevere and get it all cleared out so it can dry inside now. The suggestion by the subscriber to use a candle inside to aid the drying was great. It should help without creating too much heat and cause cracking, especially in the taller dome area.
As for the attempted break in I wonder if it was just someone seeking shelter from the rain and not actually someone intent on harm. Either way any new security you establish should help in that regard but it’s a shame it’s needed in the first place. My Dad’s hunt cabin outside of Huntsville sits vacant 95% of the year with little more than a deadbolt on the doors like most other seasonal structures in central Ontario.

2008 - 2012 years were tough on my small business here in Utah as well so I really feel for you and your family and understand how hard it was. My husband and I have a cabin in the mountains (off grid) about an hour away from our home, we work on it and spend as much time as possible there.
My husband and I love and appreciate your videos.

Love the Videos keep them coming also would suggest working on clearing a bunch of the shrubs and anything that can burn to further protect your progress and your cabin I would suggest a fire Line of at least 30 feet to help prevent the spread of a fire. Since there is the chance of fire you are prepared for the future also suggest maybe taking a firearm out with you not just from people but bears are not always going to run off especially if you are in their area.

Not bored here either. I love these videos, they're a great way for me to unwind over the weekend. Thanks for the uploads.

Shingle making and installing is tough going so kudos to you for getting all that done. I'm currently making some inroads into filming a blacksmith here in the UK who forges nails by hand for professional shingle makers ~Peace~

I remember that my grandfather taught me to hit the point of the nail first to blunt it so that it was less likely to split the shingle.

Shawn, I am still fascinated with your talent and that up pitched ridge line on the outdoor kitchen. Very nice look and functionality. I get it now. 👍🏻
