While it does have its positives, the monetization practices remind us of the bigger picture. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth have pushed the story forward. Honestly it pisses me off how many FF games are just gone forever because theyre mobile
My fave FF character is Cecil Harvey from FF4, and to this day I think it was a missed opportunity to not have him in KH given his entire "from darkness into light" arc, which would make him a great mentor for Riku and also a nice parallel.
It's too bad Nomura seems to hate the idea of including characters from games he didn't make

Unfortunately, this type of monetization is just how a lot of mobile games are making money nowadays. I read an article on whales in mobile gaming, and it's research said the top 2-6% of spenders in mobile games account for 95% of the in app purchases, so the pulls don't really care about casual players since the hardcore spend enough to keep the game's servers on. Hopefully Missing Link is better
and they tried to sell games the normal way, mobile crowd just wasn't interested so now they are doing the thing that makes money like any biz would. (also it's not that bad, i'm playing EC 100% F2p, and had so many free pulls from doing stuff and rewards tbh all my crystals are going into pulling for the tifa skin right now XD 5away)
I don't mind that at all but they're really dumb. If they created a three tier pricing system, elite rewards for the big spenders, some good stuff for the dolphins and some wheel greasing (make the game easier / slightly more fun) stuff for those that only want to spend a little then I'm sure everyone would be happy. Hell, I'm happy to spend £60 - £100 a month on a game if it looks like good value and imagine if they got several people doing that. If they only target the top spenders they are still missing out on people like me though. I won't spend on this game purely because a £60 or £70 purchase feels like it's not going to go anywhere. There's too little value in that amount of rolls. It's what it is but they're missing out on customers and money by creating too little value as well.
Its funny people are shocked about it.. Square Enix is known for it. They are investing so much in NFTs, P2W Monetization in Games etc. But its not their fault how the world functions today. People are paying thousand of dollars in Games like Genshin, Honkai Star Rail and all those other gacha Games. So why blame them?

You think so? In UX, your cheapest option for jewels was the weekly VIP. That netted you one pull. For that same price, you get two in EC. Overall, the prices are much better in EC, even if the game does shove them in your face more

Game crashed on me like 6 times in 2 hours, but they sure asked me for money 30 times in that span. This falls under “watch some streamer play the interesting story parts.”

I've been playing the game for 6 days, I don't think the game is really that aggressive about monetization, of course you can spend money to get or upgrade stuff but as a day 1 Genshin Impact player, I can tell the difference between the "you can spend" and the "you MUST spend", I mean, you can get weapons very easily in Ever crisis, and obtaining duppes only upgrades their rarity, so it's not really necessary to spend money for 5 star weapons, and I've been pulling a lot with free currency, and also you don't need to spend money on refilling stamina (at least if you are not 24/7 in the game, something that you shoulnd't), I see the game pretty fair about monetization, but that's just my opinion from a Genshin player viewpoint.
I think FFEC would make an excellent Switch port, it would be a shame to see all that extended FF content just fade into the ether.

Square mobile games are always heavily monetized but sometimes usually later on in the life of the game they just start giving out op things which just means that the games getting closed soon like union x and some will attempt to stay alive by adding TikTok people… yes that happened

My experience with ever crisis can be summerized in that the game crashed my phone when i was in the tutorial for the gacha draw tutorial.
Clive is my favorite now that I am an adult; it used to be Zidane. I identify with both but more so Clive now.

Lets be honest the best thing to come out of this game is going to be all the "cultured art" with all the costumes of Aerith and Tifa have in the game.
I hate that some these arts and designs are tied to mobile games. Tifa swimsuit and all the card arts in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: War of the Visions. (My Shiva that game name is long😅). Can't handle more than 3 gatcha at a time. My wallet won't allow it.
64.99 is actually on the low end for FF mobile games.
And my favorite male character in Final Fantasy is Zack.

New here on your channel. Great video. I have many gripes with how Square puts out content like this. Especially with Ever Crisis. I feel like this could have a been a full paid experience but feel like they opted for a more greedy option and put content on a drip feed to coincide with this new Remake craze that, depending on who you ask, is a massive waste of time or brings more to the overall story. Like you said, this game is gonna inevitably shut down. Extra important story elements locked away forever. It’s annoying. I do have a feeling that the modding community are gonna somehow mod the new visual style of EC into OG7, which I’m really looking forward to see.
My favorite is Cid Highwind from VII.
People who dislike him because he's problematic miss the point of him being a total prick in the first place. That's the type of world FFVII *IS*. He feels like that one uncle who's a total shithead half the time, and the other half the most invaluable mentor you could have in life.
That and his damage cemented him and Barret in the party. Da Boyz were my go-to party whenever I had access to all 3.

I hope this goes the way of the Megaman gacha and before it shuts down they give it an offline release

A big red flag for me in mobile games, and games in general, is the number of monetization schemes. There’s nothing wrong woth a game being monetized; they need to make money somehow. But lots of monetization schemes gives the feeling that a game is trying to nickel and dime you.
It’s not enough for Ever Crisis to have a premium currency and gacha. It has a battle pass, limited time offers to incite FOMO, and it has in game ads as another way to make money. It definitely puts a sour taste in my mouth.
I just hope that Missing Link is more restrained.
I noticed how everyone keeps saying KH union cross is unplayable but everytime I look on the App Store, the union cross/dark road game is still there to download. Is there something I’m missing?

Yes, please ff content, my favorite character is Aerith, I'm also playing Ever Crisis but I'm more of a casual player. I appreciate though the fact that the mission are very short because of my attention span
My absolute favorite is Yuna, I was pretty disappointed with her debut in KH2 since the Gullwings are treasure hunting fairies. But I’m hopeful that future entries will have her genuinely contribute to the characters in the way that Squall/Leon does.
They made them fairies on purpose it's not really disappointing they were cute
I don't mind paying a little money for a good game and so far I do like it. I bought the season pass and some red crystals for like 25 total just to support the game. Guess we'll see how bad it gets lol
About „paid versions“ of gacha games, megaman x dice released an offline version of the og title w all the gacha and stamina stuff removed for like 30 bucks and its unanimously agreed to be the better version
I only grabbed the season pass seeing how it gives me some material and other stuff for a month and its only $15 plus some extra crystals, i wont ever buy crystals for rolls tho, ill just earn and save them. I do enjoy the first soldier story and a look into young sephiroth.

I’m loving it so far an everything it has to offer an throughly enjoying the story, an honestly cannot wait to see the entire compilation on the game...however that’s why I reeeally hope they bring it to *consoles* that way we will always have it on our systems an not have to worry about it shutting down in the future. I definitely agree...I too was one of the players an fans who spent hundreds of dollars on gacha games like Union cross,Naruto ultimate ninja blazing....an after years of time an money into those games they shut down....an I was soo upset. I also play Dissdia opera omnia, an spent a lot of money on that game too time to time. But that game is still goin strong.
But my worry too most definitely is Ever Crisis an Missing Link.....I really hope they don’t shut these games down after a few years of release or shut them down at all an just move them to consoles. Even if they just took the online away atleast let players still enjoy the gameplay...I was so mad in Union cross when they just turn the whole thing into a theatre mode after all the time an money but anyway I definitely agree with you Sky.

Honestly this seems like a smart thing to do: "Hey the files are mostly there, just need to tweak some systems for offline and then all the remaining fans will buy that and we can shut our servers down." The only reason I can see companies not doing that is because it pulls the player base away from other more lucrative projects they might want those customers focusing on. I'm not saying that such greed is wise I'm just saying it's a reality.
Sadly I just deleted ever crisis after the first like 10 minutes of play and realizing it was going to be heavily based off of me paying in micro transactions. Guess I’ll go back to playing the original FF7 port I paid only ONE time and relive that game until FF7 remake part 2 comes out
I've played 3 gacha games recently, Fate Grand order (my main stay), Street Fighter Duel (ended up really good but has the same pop up windows and overpricing issue on certain items) and now I'm playing ever crisis. For context, I only spend on one at a time and I'm a dolphin nowadays, not a whale. Fate grand order I spent the most on (over £2,000,), street fighter Duel was around £350 and now ever crisis I've spent £2 so far. I'm wary of spending, not because I think it will end soon like you did (I think they'd try and keep it going up to the next major FF7 remake as the remake is a trilogy) but because I know these games are overpriced and under rewarding inherently.
But on the other hand my brother went on a holiday recently and spent £2,000 on that, I don't bother with holidays and put that to games I can enjoy over a long term period instead. I can argue my spending was something that I got to enjoy longer than him and I treat them as a premium experience where if I'm not making a lot of money then I avoid spending as much. In an ideal world they shouldn't cost what they do and it sucks, I really would love a fairly priced gacha game and some less predatory practices but I am sensible with it and only spend what I can afford. My ideal gacha would cost £60 - £80 a month to get you enough for really good stuff but this game would cost you that much just for 3 rolls and I did 5 in a row that got me nothing good on it haha. Too risky and too overpriced. Feels bad that you want to support the devs but it feels like a waste of money to do so (and when that happens I won't do it).
I got started with Fate Grand Order saying it would be the only one (and indeed, it will be the only one I spend that kind of money on even if I spent enough on SF Duel anyway) but these types of games have a certain appeal and if you've got spare money and you don't have other priorities they can be addictive fun and have that RPG feel to them. My issue is that they need to find a way to start giving more value to the player, you can spend way too much and get way too little back. Especially when you get what you want (more power or more weapons / characters etc.) and the end game feels stale. I love Fate Grand Order because it's story focused and pulls me in via various out of game media with the wider fate anime series, street fighter duel I started playing when I got a feeling of lul on Fate Grand Order (FGO) and it's been great, it's a lot cheaper if you're not buying the stupid expensive stuff and there's plenty of free rewards just like in FGO but the end game feels like there's no story and no easy way to just have fun with the vast amount of characters you get. Ever Crisis is too early to tell but I'm wary on spending due to it feeling limiting with the stamina bar, you're at the mercy of the devs giving you plenty of stamina tonics if you want to play a lot and seeing another gacha pulling the overpriced currency move for poor odds gambles is a bit disappointing. I was hoping this one would be a bit better than that but it's fun so far and doesn't require spending from what I can see. I'm the kind of person that DOES like to spend though, I want to fund the game to keep it going, I want to get exclusive stuff and good rewards but this game doesn't feel like the price to rewards are quite right. It just doesn't feel worth spending and I'd personally rather spend on the other two gacha at the moment. My advice for anyone playing gacha games (and I'm playing 3 right now at the same time) is to just make sure you get an idea if it feels worth spending on. I've certainly done it before and it gave me as much enjoyment as an expensive holiday or other random expenses to feel good so I'm not knocking it but always be careful and think first. I'd love to see a gacha that just had you pay a subscription to be honest, at a fair price like £40 a month or lower and get enough rewards for that to be fair and realistic to get stuff. That would be more upfront for players and set expectations but they just chase the quick buck instead.
My favorite FF character is Vivi from IX. He’s a cute character, great in combat and a great party member. That’s all I care really say about him without spoilers. Play FFIX and you’ll see what I mean

As a core fan of Final Fantasy VII and the FF series in general, I will never play or support this game in this form. The fact that it's not on consoles and that it was made to nickel and dime us FF7 gamer is a sheer disrespect to us as core fans of the series. Hopefully this failed just like FFVII: The First Soldier. I will never support any Final Fantasy games on mobile, not now not ever.

While the package pusning is annoying, ive done dozens of multis and havent spent a dime. It might not be the most F2P but I dont think its as bad as other gachas for sure. Also the stamina is kind of like Opera Omnia's, its there but you get so many stamina potions it doesnt even matter.
Putting money into this game is like taking a viagra when you are staying in and by yourself . No point to perform, there's no pvp nor leader boards so no point to rush to end game .
The stamina is pretty shit. Square Enix is basically telling players not to play their game by how they do their entry system. Refreshing energy just so you can continue to play gets insanely expensive which is unfortunate they had to go about the energy system that way.
Union X doesn't even have a gallery for all the medals that you spent money on.
Hey, maybe Square would copy CAPCOM's playbook and make an Offline version of EverCrisis like how they did it with Mega Man X Dive? On September 1st, they released an Offline version of X Dive for $30 bucks that has taken out ALL the GARBAGE tier Gacha mechanics. Now you can unlock EVERYTHING with in game currency!!!!!

Well what do you expect from mobile games these days. They are an absolute joke with all that monetization. Mobile gaming was at its peak at least a decade ago. Unfortunately many of the paid iOS games I got for free back then have been deleted/delisted off the App Store and replaced by versions of the games with ads. For example: the companies that made Angry Birds and Cut the Rope did this. Too many “games” with ads and gatcha mechanics these days.

I rerolled my day 1 account for tifa wallpaper and skin. My new rule is only pull on tifa and aerith banners trying to stay as f2p as possible, but swimsuit aerith and tifa off rip? It's over for my wallet if gacha gods don't bless me.

Thirst bait costumes, like "sexy Tifa" are monetized, the rest of the game is 100% free so unless you're unable to enjoy the free game without dressing Tifa weird, it's NOT monetized at all.

Played it for a bit, I really liked it but the micro transactions really are in your face at times. End up putting it aside for now I don't have the time to invest. Not against grinding but it felt a bit slow going between stages. Favourite character is Zack, he's a good boy

My favorite Final Fantasy character from all titles probably would be Freya from FFIX, her story, class and design from the moment of her introduction have been my favorite in the series. But there's many more very close up there. If we talk about FFVII specifically it would have to be Tifa. Her design is pretty awesome being that tough but also rather soft in nature.
About the games - I've not touched a mobile game other than Pokemon Go in the past 10 years or so and that one also only because it's some quick swipe to catch something when having a walk around. The monetization and ads everywhere made most games too unappealing. I skipped out on all the titles, looked up the story by other means if there was any but couldn't get myself to playing them.
I got Ever Crisis the day it came out. It's pretty decent by mobile game standards. The gameplay is definitely better than Union Cross' was. Though tbh I'm mostly playing it for the future Dirge of Cerberus story content 'cause I don't like the idea of paying $50 for a 17-year-old game (PS2 games are RIDICULOUSLY expensive these days) but given that I have no idea when the DoC content is coming out, I've gotta wonder if it wouldn't be better to just get the PS2 version. Oh well. There's still the First Soldier storyline at least.

This is ridiculous, when this game was announced they made it seem like it was just going to be a normal single player game. Now it’s just trash as far as Im concerned. It’s a shame because you wont find a bigger FF fan than me, I was really looking forward to this.
If anything single players die quick as well, yes maybe you’ll beat it and try to clear everything in the game but once you beat it, it will only just be that even if you restart or do anything else with a gacha game you’ll be paying and supporting new content for example look at final fantasy 14. Long as money is being pumped in they’ll continue support what’s bringing them that single players only go so far but definitely could be seem more concrete then a game like this but don’t be narrow minded cause of money
It really does not help that Squeenix has a bad record with their gachas. First Soldier didn't even last a year, if their name isn't fucking Brave Exvius, Opera Omnia or whatever else, don't expect it to last too much longer than a year

I dropped ever crisis cause when i was in the gacha tutorial the game crashed. Nah if the game cant be stable on a new android phone while giving me a tutorial i didnt ask for it wint worth it.
I mean. As long as they are making money they wont shut the game down. But I agree, this game is a marketing pusher for Rebirth and since Rebirth is PS5 only you need more than trailers to marketing that game. And games like this is the best. Since you get paid for the marketing campaign. Ive put in $3 for a start thing. I enjoy the game. Ill maybe put in $20 for the season pass. But dont hunt every skin and weapon. And spare blu crystals til its a skin you really want to get the stamps ect. Im grinding alot now when the game is new but i will take it easy after this event. Since im done with the story.
Gonna be honest, I am not impressed with Ever Crisis at all. It’s just endless repeating of literally 5-6 bosses to get a bigger number and repeat those same battles again, interspersed in literally dozens of ads to spend money. It’s awful. All this so they can tell you a story that you already know ⅔ of. Even the current event is just the same exact battle 7 times in a row, with a bigger number each time. Same attacks, same strategies, same patterns. It’s shockingly lazy when other mobile games have done so much more with so much less.

The red crystal monetization is what will kill this game fast. It's a shame cuz it looks like a fun casual game to play, but if lock F2P out of acquiring even a chance of a shiny new item that doesn't make the game go stale then you're essentially killing your own longevity of the game itself for people to continue playing.
This mindset isn’t it, you don’t always need or are obligated for a shiny new toy, especially maxed out! Their ticket stamp is great, the banner weapon can be acquired in 4 multies with below average luck. I put in extreme effort and rerolled for hours for the best f2p account and now have four murasames and 2 heavy klauser with 22k stashed. It’s all about pacing yourself and getting the best start possible, so you can save resources for future favorites. Planning for the future.

Nobody smart plays stuff like these, play Brave New World 2.1, Freemaster, New Threat 2.0, Crystal Mod, Alternate Fantasy, Struggle For Freedom instead, all excellent overhaul mod for the classic FF games (up to 12)
Wait until you play NBA 2k23 and Madden NFL 24. You paid over 70 dollars for a below average game and on top of it asking for gacha

From what you've shown here all of this is pretty standard for a gacha game. Not saying that's a good thing, rather it's kinda sad that the standard is insanely predatory :(
