Boy, is that a familiar sound from the 1950s and 1960s! The GMCs ,Mack's and Internationals all had their own sound. I knew what kind of truck was coming from miles away. Thanks for the memories!
That is such a beautiful Tractor with such a beautiful sound! Lots of respect for the driver who took care of it. The trucking industry has a habit it of bringing new trucks and destroy history and the old trucks. To me as Truck Driver at heart that is sad. They literally could just keep the old trucks and sign up for Annual Truckers Club of America. For you to keep that truck up and going not only shows the Love for Trucks but the determination to keep our Trucks history from falling.
That is one sweet ride! I had a 6-71 in my Autocar Tri axle, 10 spd Road Ranger. I think I wore my right shoulder out shifting. The guys in the shop called it a converter, it converted diesel fuel to noise.
When I was a kid in the 60's these Jimmy's would always make me imagine that some day I would be behind the wheel of one. Done that, been there. Beautiful rig!
Very nice! I could listen to that Detroit all day and never get tired of it! Great restoration and loved the ability to float the gears as well as double clutch!👍👍
A beautifully re- stored piece of trucking history! Remember the engines were G.M. diesels at that time. The Detroit Diesel name was coined by I-H later on from where they were made Detroit, Mich. Remember G.M. sold many of these engines to compet- itor companies like Ford, Dodge and the big International- Harvester Co. At that time it didn't look good having a competitor's engine in a FORD for an example. This great restoration reminds me of the Canadian produced old T.V. show. CANNON- BALL with actors Paul Birch as ' Mike Malone' and William Campbell as ' Jerry Reed'. This show was around when I was 9 yrs. old. I was able to later ex- perience driving two I-H's with V-8 Detroit Diesels, and a short nosed Diamond- Reo with a real screamer 6V-53! My best friend taught me how to drive and was also an experienced diesel mechanic. My short time behind the wheel of a big rig came to an end when I got sick. The new trucks all look like they came out of a cookie cutter with no more of styling there once was.The KW's and PETES still look good, though.
A 10 speed ? R 2 4 | - | - | 1 3. 5 Split into high range at fifth And then 6th through 10th are in the exact same standard h pattern 6 is on top of first 7 on top of 2 8 on 3 9 on 4 10 on 5. You just shift a 5 speed twice basically
A friend and I drove out west and spent a couple of nights sleeping out. We were near a 4 way intersection of major highways. Listening to the trucks those nights was like listening to lullabies.
Not many people remember Crown buses. I rode to school in them for about ten years. They had Hall-Scott engines in those days. I was always amazed by the engine layout. I still think that they were the best school buses ever made.
Tracy Lemme very true. Simple, solid buses. Mine has 610,000 miles on it and that detroit diesel still sings without skipping a beat. I didn’t get to road trip this year but next summer its a 2 month cross country tour for me and my family in the bus.
I used to work for magna int out of Markham Ontario Canada I’m going back in the late 80s and I was the shipper receiver we had a trucking company back then called icl international carriers limited so I mostly loaded finished car parts for Chrysler it was a stamping plant and unloaded more steel trucks than u can imagine anyway saw some pretty cool trucks back then the coolest was a old diamond t I couldn’t believe he was hauling loads with this truck it had a few bad spots on it but it was cool as hell I wouldn’t want to drive in the winter it would have been a cold old ride I’m thinking it was a early or late 40 s or early 50s truck don’t know how he wafted it you could see daylight threw the cab up in the back drivers corner I always wondered if he give it a Jew body job about one of the coolest trucks I ever unloaded hauling a full load of steel coils with it prob 70 or 80 thousand pound old with a old diamond T coolest old truck ever you also have a beautiful rig nice semi
Nothing beats the sound of a Detroit diesel... them engines are the definition of coolness in my humble opinion
Hello my friend writing with great pleasure

90s baby here and man I wish I could’ve grew up during those times but hey someone have to keep the memories floating for the next.

So nice to hear all the bells and whistles tom...and a great fuel rail injector tune. Motor sings.
Nothing sounds as cool as a Detroit diesel
I spent many years driving a 72 International 2000 238 DD and loved the sound of these old workhorses.
When I was a kid in the 60's these Jimmy's would always make me imagine that some day I would be behind the wheel of one. Done that, been there. Beautiful rig!
Listen to that sweet music GM POWER
Sounds badass
never gets old love that classic power sound of diesel back when things were built right made to last.😊
Thank God for the American Truck Historical Society. and thanks for the ride
Wow. Beautiful...just beautiful. My late trucker/equipment operator father would have said, "I have to take a spin in this!"
Thanks for the ride along. "Cannonball" was 1 of my favorite shows as a kid. You have done a great job on this resto.
"Keep those wheels rollin'"

Back when a driver had to really know his stuff!!
@Southern Hellstorm it's a Detroit two stroke. They sound as such.
How to check the fuel and fill the oil, on these little whimpy things.
@@toddgittins5692
They didn't get very good fuel mileage about 4 MPG maybe a little more if Bob tailing
Love the fact that you've maintained it not just to look pretty. You really DRIVE it the way it was always meant to be driven.
Hello my friend writing with great pleasures
I remember the TV show "Cannonball". I think it was produced in Canada and the two hero's drove a Jimmy just like this one. Fine looking rig.
Very nice! I could listen to that Detroit all day and never get tired of it! Great restoration and loved the ability to float the gears as well as double clutch!👍👍
It's crazy how the truck sounds better than it looks because it looks amazing!

What a beautiful truck. I don't have words to describe how nice this truck is
This guy must the busiest trucker on the road ! He's always doing something, shifting gears, flipping switches, and everything else ! 👍🏻
I swear that's the same road where they shot some ''Duel'' scenes. Beautiful truck.
In 1958 I rode from Akron, Ohio to Buffalo NY and back with my uncle in a Canonball. Too young to appreciate the raspy 2 stroke exhaust.

The train horn is known as a Hankcock Air Whistle, and were intended to sound like a steam engine whistle.
Best sounding engines ever made, My dad drove a GMC 950 with that motor for Mobil Oil back in the day
Absolutely beautiful truck that you have their sir especially love the old steam whistle and train Bell just beautiful
If i hear "old machines are simpler" one more time.... Hell, i'll never get that shift pattern right.. Good skills and good truck, sir!

Thomas Ancas It’s a 10. The driver is skipping 6th. You can hear him grinding it in, and the RPM drop.
Magnificient sound of that engine. Amazing. Love to hear it.

I never got to, DRIVE, a Detroit. But fell in love with the 4/71 and 6/71 I worked on in the Navy.
Bring back these old trucks and the stick shifts, you would cripple an entire generation!
Beautiful, historical truck. But what's with the train horn, and bell??? That's, not normal.

Not many people remember Crown buses. I rode to school in them for about ten years. They had Hall-Scott engines in those days. I was always amazed by the engine layout. I still think that they were the best school buses ever made.
