Thank you so much for this song Elvie : ) My step dad, Marvin, has been such an incredible father figure in my life. He began taking me to work with him the summer that I was going into 8th grade. He’s a brick mason and spent the next twelve years working with him. He has always introduced me as his son- never his stepson. He came to every ball game grade school, high school and college. I was selected to run the mile for the city track meet when I was 12, I collapsed once I crossed the finish line. Marvin saw what was going to happen & ran from the infield, he caught me before I my knees hit the track- he’s been there every moment since. Marvin is this incredible brick artisan & craftsman, yet his tools are old and worn out. He has helped my siblings and so many others through the years, toting around his worn tools in a beat up buckets. I’ve wanted to do something for him to show my love for him, but couldn’t figure out what that was… One day I heard “My Boy” and I knew what I wanted to do. I work in education and don’t make a ton, but I saved & saved until I could surprise him. This past Christmas I replaced all Marvin’s tools with brand new Dewalt power tools and replaced his bucket with Toughbuilt tool totes and bags. I bought him new bits and accessories. I just wanted him to feel every like the amazing person he is. I’ve never really seen him cry, but his eyes began tearing up the moment he unwrapped his first black and yellow box. My wife and I are surprising him again, because we have also replaced all his hand tools. just a bit more saving and few more things to go and I will feel I’ve been able to repay him for so much of the love he gave me and being such an incredible father to me. Your song is a gift, a treasure -the most loving summation of what it means to be a father. And in my case, a son. If it’s okay I will figure out how to send you a video of my dad, when I surprise him this 2nd time- we plan on putting it to “My Boy”. Thank you, again, so very much Elvie - Jeff

The moment I found the My Girl version I did the same and I sung them both to my babies. From a Eastern Ky boy to a Western KY boy. I have so much respect to you for making these songs. Absolutely incredibly brilliant. Just sat down with this guy at The Mill in Terre haute IN. Talk about THE real deal. Of course with Blackberry Smoke, Elvie Shane has opened for them a few times. These 2 songs hit home really hard just makes me think of the man that I call dad. I lost him 3 yrs ago the end of this month.
