    I was disappointed when I bought my Denon-4100W receiver, but after trying all these my system pounds now. Night and Day difference. I'm so thankful that I came across these videos I have been pretty bummed out the past year because my system wasn't delivering. I don't like the reference EQ settings either and I had no idea that FLAT was still EQ'd so I never tried it. Now my system sounds like how it should! Thanks man!

    I'm watching this video again right now. I watch your videos several times a day at least 6 days/wk because they are very informative. I'm sitting on the couch with my tape measure comparing and adjusting distances with audyssey. Working on crossover points now. Keep up the good work. Your videos are a good blend of techy and non techy advice. Earlier in life, I did my fair share of touring with bands as a lighting designer. Had I known what I know and am learning now about audio, I would have chosen audio as my career. Just saying...This stuff is fascinating. Ok I'm babbling, back to crossover points.

    Thanks for all of your videos. It's nice to see someone whose not slaved to the typical crossover orthodoxy. My system has a front array of RSL's CG5-CG25-CG5, Surrounds are CG3s and therr are four SVS Prime Elevation as F/R heights. The AVR is a Denon X3700 and the sub is an SVS PB-1000 Pro (one great piece of kit). Howard and Joe Rodgers had recommended setting the front speakers at 80 and the Surrounds at 90. After Audyssey did its thing, I did set the crossovers as 80 up front, 100 on the Surrounds and 80 for the Elevations. Because, at my age, I've lost some of my higher frequncy hearing, I found that even with the excellent CG25 Center, voices could sound a bit thick or "muddy". After watching this video, I set the CG5s at 90 and the CG25 at 100 and, viola, voices were much sharper and detailed. I bumped the CG3s to 110 and the Elevations to 90 and ended up with a much smoother immersive sound. It just goes to show you that you really have to take some of the typical recommendations with a grain of salt and let your own ears tell you what works best for you.

      @@Subwoofer101 damn, you have some of the best content out there! I just used some of your hacks and my system sounds brand new. I have the Denon 4700 B&W 686-s2 as fronts, B&Whtm62-S2 for the center and B&W M1 as surrounds. This completely made my system sound sooo immersive. I just ordered the SVS ULTRA tower theater package along with 4 prime height speakers to fully get the most out of my Denon and can’t wait to use this configuration. I currently have a B&W Pv1D and Bose accoustimss 15 as my second sub. I’m going to run the SVS PC2000 pro and see what the whole system sounds like. I might trade the PC2000 for a PB2000 pro and get duals.

    I tried the 'add an extra 4ft' to the sub and yes it improved the bass in so far as it now isn't localised. However I did get a text off the neighbour asking me to turn it down. 6 yrs with no issues from them. So, I guess it worked for my setup :-)

    Great tips of tweaking! I have a single SVS pb-1000 setup and got a good black friday deal on a Denon X3300W AVR which has the same setup menus. Also I found measuring with Audyssey with close cluster as noted in this write up, chapter 7 graph 101.

    I found a used 6200 I may pick up. But Im on the fence about that or a brand-new X3800. Dont really know if Ill notice the 2.1 HDMI

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly, I would personally go with the 3800, the 6200 is pretty old in AVR years, and the 3800 has more features. The HDMI functionality is better. You also get a warranty. You might not notice the picture quality, but the functionality is just better, more reliable, and quicker when making changes.

    I know this is an older video, but i am curious if you are still running your crossovers this way. If you are, i was curious if you're losing some of your mids to the subwoofer because you are running them this way. I was thinking about trying out your method, but my surrounds are pretty nice and get down to 39htz, and i don't know if i want to lose some of that bass and mids. This video was very informative, and thanks for sharing.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No important losses that I could tell, just more dynamic bass. 90 hertz for the towers and center, 120 hertz for the surrounds. Love it, and you should try it. Free, and easy enough to change back.

    Only the high vocals are a bit dominating now.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right on, you can look at the dialog setting and try adjusting it. Not sure what option the 2300 has, my x2000 was actually more adjustable, allowing you to reduce dialog, but the X6200 only has Dialog Enhancer "low medium and high". Dynamic EQ is "on" and Dynamic Volume is "off"? Dynamic Volume can really alter the sound in a way I'm not fond of.

    My avr is a denon x2000 and i have hooked up a 5.1 speakers rated at 6ohms. Now, i have just been given a set of bookshelf rated at 8ohms. I'm planning to add it to the receiver and make it 7.1 but assigned to front height speakers so that i can play Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Would the mismatched 6 vs 8 ohms speaker create a problem for the denon. Don't want to destroy the receiver if it is the case. I probably just assign the extra speakers to zone 2 listening then. Thank you for your input.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My initial thought is that the Denon would handle it, but I would recommend giving Denon a call to be on the safe side.

    Great video! 👍Would you increase delay to tame perhaps a bright system? Once I increase distance, I feel the sound doesn't seem too bright. What SPL level do you recommend, 65-80db as reference? I think most prefer 75db while REL recommends 65db.

    I just got my demon reciever and I ran the auto odyssey and it said when it was done is that my right and left main speakers were only .1 feet away(that's point one feet away) even though it's a good 13 feet away!...lol!! I did it twice with same results!...I'm not sure what's going on but i went ahead and did a manual setting and it sounds beyond awesome!!!

      Thanks! The way I look at the slightly increased distance setting on the subwoofers is slightly shifting the timing to defeat some cancellation between subs and mains. It's something that can be tried and then put back if it's not better than you started. I've seen some positive results on REW graphs, and it seems to sound better to me, but every case is unique.

    • @Subwoofer101

      Duals make a huge difference. Depending on what you have, I would strongly consider getting a pair of these, but they will be gone soon: th-cam.com/video/mm8tia_WSCI/w-d-xo.html

    Love the configuration video for your Denon. I also have the PB-2000 and left my gain at the back of the amp at 12 o clock, where did you leave yours? Do you watch films with motion interpolation on or off? I usually have it off on my H8000 but for some I don't mind leaving it on.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually leave it off, but I don't really have a firm opinion on it. I keep the gain at about 50% on both subs, and dial it in on the AVR trim.

    • @drharvey6245
      @drharvey6245 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the only thing that I expect might be different is under the amp assign options since the X7200WA can have each individual amp assigned to power any speakers connected except the centre and surrounds I believe. Useful when comboing power amps and setups in zone 2 /3.
      It is one heck of a receiver though. Are you starting to adjust to it more? I know you said you preferred the sound of the Marantz out the box. Just wondered if the Denon is starting to / continuing to grow on you? Especially compared to your older X2200W or similar receiver???

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Marantz was marginally better, it wasn't so dramatic that I think any less of the Denon. I'd still choose the Denon because of the display. I'm satisfied with it, it's a great AVR.

    Have you heard of a set up when you run your AVR center wires to your subwoofer ins and from the subwoofer out to the large Center channel? is this optimal set up?

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eh, I think you'd be losing some signal from the other channels. in a 5.1 you'd only be getting 1/5 of the bass, but the center usually has a lot going on. Seems incomplete to me. First time I've heard of it though.

    Great channel and you really are doing us a lot of favor with your video. There are hardly any videos that go in-depth like you did. I am new to ht and just got my first set up. I wanted to run it by you to make sure I am doing it right. I have the Sony core bookshelf speakers in the front including the center channel laying it horizontally. Using Polk speakers as surround for now but use them as atmos later. Receiver is denon 3300w. After running the test for crossover it gave me front 120, center 60 and surround as 80. Have the bass as 120 LFE.
    I have an emotiva sub s8. While listening to a song on TH-cam. These settings sounded fine but the watched a movie on Netflix and the bass was either too boomy or can’t hear it. Also using it with Apple TV connected directly to the avr and showing as sending pcm to the avr. Any help would be appreciated.
    Would also like to see what eq if any do you use and how do you set up the shortcut buttons in the remote.

    Hi, still trying to figure out which is the best surround speakers position for my small room and 5.1 setup. I've put Indiana Line NANO 2 as rear surround above ear level around 1.5 feet, not pointed downwards, this because sometimes I stay in the middle and sometimes quite near the back wall, need more versatility. At the moment I've mounted them upside down. What do you think? I'm using also denon x1200w, paid just 200€ new :)

    How do you get it to display on your tv?

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything needs to go through your AVR, before it goes to your TV.
      So if you have a Fire TV stick, Blu-ray player, cable box, whatever, it needs to go through the AVR first.
      Then select "on screen display" in your AVR.
      If you try to use the apps on your TV, or have anything connected to your TV first instead of going through the AVR, you won't be able to get the on-screen display.

    I also noticed that your AVR recognized two subs. Is it because you have two preouts for it? I'm using two subs with one preout so when I do my calibration (ypao) it only recognized one although I have two.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not super familiar with Yamaha, but I would guess in the speaker setup you might have just one sub selected instead of 2. If that doesn't do the trick, either call Yamaha to get it figured out, or get a simple splitter and run both subs off of the output that works, and run room correction again. Yes, both subs should be active in the calibration. If not, you're not getting a calibration based on 2 subs running, which is quite a bit different compared to a single.

    Hi @Subwoofer 101 Are you still active? I have questions. Do you have in the front up on the wall Atmos Anable speakers? The one you "fire to the ceiling? If so, Do you still get the sound from above? Like choppers, rain etc? Mys is on top of my front towers shooting up... Wondering if with the conb of the back hights Sp will be better .. Lot of question sorry ... Let me know sir

      You have to give them a lot of gain and properly measure your sitting position to it reflects off ceiling to your seat. I would go with height speakers my self

      @@gufiaito69able Thank you my friend. This is what i want to do.. I want to put the Atmos Enable Speakers as Rear height and then add 2 up top front In-Ceiling speakers This way I will have L&R front, center L&R sound-round and L & R Rear height + Sub. I think this is 5.1.2. What do you think? .. God Bless

      Your English is great, I've just been out of sorts lately, sorry for not getting back sooner. I set it to 250 hertz, even though there is no real difference. 120 hertz is the "correct" setting in the Speakers/Manual/Bass" menu.

    Just wondering about setting the subwoofer distances. I'm not able to set mine any further then a couple of feet from the pre-assigned distance (using wireless sub connection). When I do try to it gives me that error that you showed in your video. Is there any work around to that? I haven't seen it in the comments here I'm not sure if you captured it in another video.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wireless adds a lot of delay, so I only use wireless when I absolutely MUST. You could try adjusting phase, run room correction, and then go back to 0. Haven't tried this personally, but if you have time to kill it might work.

    • @northwash
      @northwash 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. Good thought. I'm also going to try to add an extended RCA cable on to the wireless receiver and move it even further from the current location hopefully increasing the distance that gets measured. Then referencing the initial sub distance measurement I may have a few feet of play for adjustment. We'll see. Thanks.

    Hi there, question, once you setup your receiver with audessey and manual setup, you can switch settings anytime, like from the audessey to manual settings?

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +neker rivera You can restore the Audyssey settings to go back to the way Audyssey set it up, but I don't know of a way to toggle between the user settings and Audyssey. That would be a great feature, but after using restore, to go back to your settings you have to do everything manually again. I could be missing something, but I'm not aware of a way to toggle.

    Hi, I feel like my Denon AVR-X520BT may be faulty. During the auto setup, it does not go past Test 1 of 5. It keeps testing front left, front right, centre, rear left, rear right and subwoofer continuously. It keeps doing them again and again and it stays on Test 1 of 5.
    Also, the pink noise coming out of the speakers is not loud at all. Does you know how many dB the pink noise should be?
    Side note: My setup is a 2.1

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're trying to run 2.1, try changing the settings in the Amp Assign section, it could be "looking" for the the rest of the speakers. If that's not it, SVS offers free support chat to my viewers, even if if you aren't their customer. sub101.link/SVS

    Have you test the denon 6200 with 4 dolby atmos speakers..?
    Or is it better to go with the 6300 with 4 dolby atmos speakers..?
    I have the avr-x7200wa and a store in Sweden told me if im going for Dolby Atmos is better to change to the 6300 or 6400 what do you Think about that or what have heard or think about that..?

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 6300 and 6400 are more up to date since they are more recent models. You also get 11 on board channels.
      I run 5.2.4 on my 6200, so 5 ear level, 2 subs, and 4 Elevation/height effect/Atmos speakers. I'm happy with the performance, but the 6300 added 2 more channels. If I add an external amplifier, I could do 7.2.4 but with a 6300 or 6400 I wouldn't need an external amplifier to run that configuration.

    Finally bought a new sub thanks for the videos your review of the svs subs and Z-Reviews (zeos pantera) if you know him got my to get a svs sub. I bought the nsd-12 sb because my room is not that big and i wanted a 12" driver with some power behind it and wanted to try a sealed sub, for it's size this sub is a real monster and i got it " cheap" at the svs store where i live because it's a limited edition or a refreshed version of tge nsd 12sb of it. Keep the videos coming like this one today good work the other videos helped me a lot for what sub i should buy.

      What did you pay for it? Amazon has them for $399 amzn.to/2gmwF3P (affiliate link) which is what I imagine is close to what you paid. You may want to get another before they are gone, it's a limited run as I understand it. Duals will be even better if you can believe it. I won't run a single unless I have no other choice, you end up missing bass. The reason I say to grab another is because you want your subs as matched as possible. An SB-2000 would probably do just fine with an SB12-NSD, but for an extra $300. The SB12-NSD is a screaming deal right now.
      Z-Reviews is a great channel, we've never spoken, but I dig his style. Cool cat too!

      I paid 449€ at the svs dealer in germany if the sub was 399€ i would go dual but one sub makes me happy for now its enough rumble for me i don't get that swiss cheese bass i did the subwoofer crawl and put the sub in the spot where it sounded the best and it sounds clean and tight the only thing is i put the sub on 0,0db it was measured in at -4,5 but with that it was getting hold back and very quiet with music the sub is at 12'o clock volume .

    so i just bought the x6200w for $2000AU. original Australian price $4400. Wasn't going to go this high in the model range but could not resist the price. Still not setup. Deciding on speaker placement.ATMOS vs AURA3d speaker layout. i decided to set up for 5.1 in the interim until i decide. My son says there is very little AURA3d content out there but the manual claims it upscales signals to A3D. I want to do the speaker placement (beyond 5.1) as a once off project. Since i have never experienced ATMOS or A3D i'm not sure which way to go.. any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you set it up for Auro 3D, that should also be an Atmos topology, less the voice of God channel.
      That's pretty much how I have mine set up, I just haven't paid for the Auro 3D upgrade. No voice of God for me yet.
      I just put an elevated channel directly above the fronts and directly above the side surrounds, which should be good for all 3 immersive formats.
      Auro 3D should upscale any format, but Atmos is trying to stop that on newer AVR's. Not sure about the older ones.
      Set up as I described, it shouldn't be an issue either way. If you have the voice of God speaker, it would probably be silent in Atmos mode.

      Thank you so much.. That's the way I'll go.. Now for some overtime to buy great speakers to match the x6200.

      I know SVS products are spendy in Australia, but if you could find a place that would let you try it with return policy, it would be worth checking out. Dual PB-1000's or PB-2000's would be game changers.
      Fortunately, just using a simple splitter is all you need to run duals, so no need to put away the second subwoofer!

    Dear Subwoofer 101, Could you please do me a favour? I know you are a busy man but need some information concerning the crossover response of my fronts ProAc Studio 150( -3DB RATING OF 55HZ) and center Klipsch RP 440C (59-25KHZ). Which crossover settings in my Denon denon avr x4300H do you recommend me? I really appreciate your help!! My sub will be the Klipsch r-10sw. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's tough because the subwoofers I recommend react a little differently to a higher crossover. My recommendations might cause a boomy sound, since most subs get quieter as they go deeper. In contrast, the subs I recommend tend to get a little louder as you go deeper, until you reach the limits of your hearing. www.subwoofer101.com/best-subwoofers/
      A pair of PB-1000's would give you a more impressive presentation. Duals are super important, and the difference in depth would be undeniable.
      At that point I would comfortably recommend a crossover of 80-90 hertz. That may work with the sub you are getting, but you may have to adjust the gain.
      This can help you understand the crossover settings: www.subwoofer101.com/setting-up-your-gear/large-vs-small-lfe-main-double-bass-etc/

    • @Subwoofer101

      I use Small myself. Large with LFE+Main would be the next choice, but it taxes your AVR, usually making it run hotter. If you have external amplification, this is less of a problem. I you have books for fronts, you should run small regardless.

      Common assumption, but my dogs and I have similar thresholds of noise tolerance. Angel (the white Tibetan Mastiff) doesn't like saxophone ("I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town" by Eric Clapton in particular), but otherwise if it's too loud for her, it's too loud for me as well. I rarely "blast" it. The potential is certainly there, but I listen at very comfortable levels.
