- One day in Wales with the Ricoh GR IIIx and Fujifilm X100VI, beneath its grey skies, amidst its warm people. This is not a formal shootout video like the previous episode, but it does show how I split my time between each camera on a day trip.
Looking forward to photographing a number of cities in Japan this month. Subscribe if you'd like to keep up to date!

Beautiful video and photos Mark!! The music pairs so well too!
Your compositions are stunning. Turning basic locations into magic.
Thanks - yes, not the easiest location!
Omg :49 is such a cool shot. awesome composition! 2:44 is great, too with the wall in the foreground and all that fog/mist in the distance. And the hand at 6:49!!!!! So sick. But I think my favorite has to be... that so cute pupper through the window lookin at you!!!!!!! Really glad the almighty algorithm sent me here. Beautiful work
Thanks so much - something about that hand photo also rings true with me 📸
really portable and good enough
That guy you were talking to at the end was a G!
Snipped almost all of the conversation / insight. Get them on mastermind right now!
Legend. How do you find shooting on overcast days? I’ve always struggled
Lovely work, nice variety of locations!
Cheers Andre! I lived in Wales for 2 years, so it was great to return again.
Lovely pictures again!
Thank you!
Nice to not be remonstrated at for taking photos in a public space… a thoroughly decent man with the dog… 👍🏴
I’ve had a few close calls where I was told I couldn’t take photos, one assaulted me from behind (an anti-vaxxer) which knocked my confidence for a while after… and I wasn’t doing anything wrong either.
Wow, that's awful. Hope you get back into the swing of things - can imagine it's not easy.
Love it, beautiful locations you have there! Any chance you would show some alternative film simulations? I'm using classic chrome on my x100vi but now am considering playing around a bit with the raw conversion. I wonder how locations with light like this would look with Reala Ace with chrome: strong, chrome fx blue: strong and DR400. I like it a lot, especially when blue sky is in the shot.
Thanks - I'll definitely consider it for a future video!
Very nice photos! I laughed when the guy said "thousands of photos and you can't print any!", yeah ok mate...
Yeah, there were quite a few gems that I couldn't keep in!
What's the soundtrack you are using? It's really chilling vibe.
Hi, I used 3 tracks from Melodie (stock site). 2 of 3 are by Stefano Mastronardi, the other is by Bruce Maginnis.
Some lovely shots here. So are all the GRiiix shots SOOC jpegs in negative film…no post production? Great either way, just curious as I’m considering the camera myself. Thanks
Should be in Positive Film.. Not sure if there are any post-production adjustments..
I do some very minor tweaks of the existing Ricoh simulations in lightroom (negative film and positive film are my favourites). For a day's shooting, I'd typically make 3 versions of the same preset with slightly different exposure levels to account for time of day / location etc.
@@po.ntandshoot that’s great, thanks for the reply
@@classicnickpics465 fantastic camera, you will love it. Set the white balance to 5500k rather than auto, most people use auto.
Beautiful photo!!!
Do you use aperture priority or what? Thanks
Yes, effectively! I just toggle the focusing mode and the aperture for the vast majority of shots.
Nice video and photos! Are you editing with LR presets?
Cheers! I make slight tweaks to the existing simulations for both cameras.
@@po.ntandshoot Nice!
Do you find enough of a difference to really justify both? I have the VI but have been slightly interested by the GR
Good question. Both are most definitely a luxury, but the more I use the X100vi, the more I find the GR unique. It's a pure everyday carry, so it will gobble up any occasion with family / friends / work where I wouldn't bother fretting over an X series.
what are your autofocus settings? I am struggling with this on the x100vi and ricoh
For moving subjects (majority of my photos), I keep it on continuous focus mode with wide tracking + single point focus (locking on to desired subject). I change to single focus mode for architecture etc.
Which camera do you like better?
Ha, tough one. Ricoh for an everyday day, Fuji for a planned day.
If you could only have one, which would you choose?
If I had to? X100. Powerful and reliable, plus I can't be without a 35mm. The GR is the better EDC though.
How to choose between griii and griiix?
If you like the option of isolation / portraits, then definitely go for the X!
What ‘recipe’ are you using on the VI?
Classic chrome! (Plus a tweak or two with the contrast / shadows)
@@po.ntandshoot thanks. Hitting Bath at the end of the month. Hoping for some nice weather to take the camera for a spin.
