Good video…the “vibe” imo is when any machine (camera, car, bicycle, you name it) strikes something intangible in it’s holder to want to utilize that item as much for it’s intended purpose as possible.
I bet they’ll eventually add a flip up screen to the new GR, which will be kinda like that. There’s an older Panasonic lumix camera that has a viewfinder that you could tilt up to 90 degrees. I always thought it looked interesting to shoot with.
@TheLiamGordon I have 2 cheap viewfinders on the way, 1 to try and the the other incase if I mess up. But I'm going to make one. Very basic just a box with a mirror at 45deg. Like the old medium formats that had the waist level viewers.
@@TheLiamGordon definitely feels like the camera I’ve been looking for. Your videos were really helpful. There’s not a lot of interesting stuff on TH-cam about this model.
It's shame that guys like you help bump the prices up on cameras. After all your only helping us out by showing these cameras. I'm still trying to get my hands on an XT20 best camera I ever used. But got the GRiiix for Christmas. Love it,but how do you get around the bad reflections on the back in sunny days?
Lintaro made me do it 😅 the xt20 is one that I think will be even more highly sought after in the future. With the reflections the best I could manage was squinting and using my hand as a shade. It’s not ideal.
My favorite camera, the og ricoh gr, bought in 2015 then died 3 years later. I just wish ricoh make better build quality camera. Try to buy it again but im afraid it will fail me again. Someone said its disposable digital camera.
Gee thanks. Now these 10 year old plus cameras are going for $700 US, THE SAME PRICE THEY WERE AT RETAIL on release. Insanity. No thanks, I'll pass. PS just stop it already TH-camrs!
$700 from 10 years ago is around $940 today (inflation). And buy locally, I recently sold one of my GR's for €450, while they are going for €550+ on eBay.
The OG GR renders jpgs like no other camera. Not even the GRIII comes close. I too am on my second OG GR when the first one had the dreaded shutter cable split. FYI the Ricoh GRII is no different to the GR other than the addition of the wifi function.
That’s what I thought but Samuel L Streetlife’s channel made me thing it might render jpgs slightly different. They’re probs the exact same but it planted a seed in my head.
The GRiii is great and superior to the GR. I'm not trying to bash it. These are just my little idiosyncratic camera preferences that don't always make sense for others :)
I had my Ricoh GR for 8 years and like you I shot almost every day with it. Until it finally died when the lens would not go in when powered off. I use the GR3 now and love the extra megapixels, but I often think of that GR. It was my soulmate.
The GRiii is excellent and superior in every way. I particularly enjoyed the GRiiix. I am a feelings not facts kind of photographer 😂 you probably made the smart choice.
@@ZenoWatson yes. had the same issue. lens would go out when powered on and then get stuck when powered off. the shutter would sometimes get stuck closed too. Got the ribbon cable replaced and it’s still working to this day. The cable gets worn from constant moving along with the lens and loses connection when extended, or something like that.
I've read so many tales of GR's dying that's why I'm so worried it will break. I've been lucky with it though. I had less luck with the X100V and X-Pro2. Both were done within a year.
Just bought this! I’ve been shooting film for years and all I need is a 28mm, snap focus (zone focus) I needed a digital camera for weeks I can’t afford film.
Yeah I believe there were more GRii made compared to the GR so maybe the availability changed things a bit. I’m pretty sure it’s almost identical other than having WiFi.
I’ve never owned or used a grdiii. They do have great reviews online though. They have the older and smaller ccd sensor I believe. Maybe check some reviews and see what the image output looks like and if it suits your needs.
Solid point about the look of older sensors. I used to shoot the X70 for it. I think it's the lower dynamic range that does it and the processing they used to really push the limits of what they had at the time. Certainly not film, but a nice look none the less. Now that I'm primarily on the GRIII, I can sometimes get an almost similar look bumping up the mid luminosity in the colour grade module of LR. Still recommend older cameras to get it straight out of camera though. ✌️
I’ll usually shoot both and mostly use the jpg. Although all my NYC photos are raw but the only thing I adjust is exposure, WB, and contrast. White Balance was they key for me. Do you find the colors to look bad even in good light conditions?
@TheLiamGordon Yeah, heard the same. I've had mine since 2016 though and so far so good, apart from a wee spot of dust on the sensor. I've definitely never left mine outside overnight though haha
That's so good for you, buddy. Great job! That's a very nice camera. I really like my Canon G7XII and my Ricoh GRIII. They're great. It's nice to be happy with your camera, right? ✨
@@musicmaestro88 nice! I don’t get out as much as I used to since the wife and I had a kid but I’ll try to make some time if you’re in town! The x100v is a great camera. I’d still have mine if the viewfinder wasn’t dying.

I can get behind that. I get the vibe with the GR as well as a Leica M. No vibe from my Canon R6 😂
OMG what would be amazing for this camera is a 90deg viewfinder that can go on the hotshoe so you can compose by looking down at it!

I've heard many stories of them being fragile. I think I've gotten lucky with mine. It has dust on the sensor too but it rarely shows up.
The GR is also my everyday camera, and I think that's how I first found your channel. Always fun to see a new video of yours. :)

The og Ricoh GR is the best I have heard u scored need one these to add to my collection it's on my cameras to own soon..
It has its quirks and feels very old compared to the GRiii but I find it so enjoyable!
Happy GR3 since 2019, it's the beast i carry on my pocket anywhere I go as a main or second camera
Wonderful cameras! 🙌
I had two and they both croaked. Some of my favorite work is from one of these (the 10MP one I think) but they're just too fragile to keep re-buying.

It's funny that I see on secondary (where I live) the original ones are more expensive than GRii and only about 1/4 cheaper than GRiii(x)

Yes I think the GRiii can have a similar look with a little tweaking and if given a couple of prints I’d never know the difference.
The best way to keep this a secret is to not talk about it
I’m not trying to keep it a secret
congrats with your citizenship (?) the flag is the key for this assumption
Your assumption is correct! I got it about 2 years ago.

I agree! I just bought the limited edition one. This GR is amazing!
Nice one! Enjoy!
Shhh Liam - nobody else needs to know... 🤣
haha, sorry Paul :P
Don't all GR's have a APS-c sensor?
Not prior to 2013. There were 4 older digital GR models from the 2000’s with smaller sensors.
I'm not sure which one this is. The ii or older
Sorry John i find it hard to specify GR models since they went through a few reboots. It’s the 2013 GR. The first one with a crop sensor.
Well done. Now I want a GR 😂
Haha, I don't mean to sell you on one. 2 Leica Q's are probably enough :)
Good vid, but that flag.
I love that little flag. They gave me it the day I became a citizen.
