  • The Ikea JÄRVFJÄLLET is a very good budget office chair with lots of adjustability. However one of its biggest flaws is the lack of adjustable armrest. The armest mounting holes that come with the chair appear to be non-standard, so I decided to add my own. Watch for complete installation instructions.

    awesome hack, I hope ikea offer a better arm rest for this beautiful chair, I think you can add a soft cushion to the arm rest to make it even more comfortable!

    I bought the boss arm rests and found that they were too far out. The solution I thought of was to drill a hole in the arm rest to bring them in. Thanks to your video, I now know I can get the threatens inserts instead, which is 100x easier!

    Why Ikea does not offer 4D-armrests with this chair is beyond me!

      4D? Does that mean the rests break the time-space continuum?

    Could you please measure distances between original holes?

    • @vlastimilmartinek5581
      @vlastimilmartinek5581 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 3 holes. The triangle height is 3,5cm with the bottom side heading to the direction of the arm. All following measurements aimed to the middle of each screw. Triangle bottom cca 2,4cm, triangle sides cca 3,7cm

    um, the inserts have the hex top so you can use a plain allen wrench.

    Now how to fix the bloody headrest?

  • @natandirt

    Wouldn't it be way easier to just drill new holes into the armrest itself???

    Is there a reason why you did not drill a hole into the bracket instead??

    • @instructionsunclear4136
      @instructionsunclear4136  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Several reasons. The holes might partially overlap with the existing holes. I also figured they would be harder to reuse in the future on another chair. And lastly I was unable to drill through the steel on the armrest.

    Hi!
    After some time what's your take on the chair (JÄRVFJÄLLET)?
    Also, if you don't mind, how tall are you? I'm 1.75m (with proportional lower and upper body) and found Ikea Markus lumbar support terrible; non-adjustable hard foam. I'm considering buying this model instead.
    I can't know how it would fit me (in my country, Ikea has this model available only for online orders), so my only option is to hear peoples experiences...
    Btw, I'm a programmer, so I need the chair to be comfortable (especially for my neck and back) for loooong hours (4-18hrs a day)
    Have a good one!

      I've had the chair for about 2 years now. I am about 1.8m, medium-sized. The seat is quite firm (which I like). The back lumbar support I wish could slide up higher and stay in place better, as I notice it would gradually slide down throughout the day (easy to slide back up, but a little annoying). I find it comfortable for 8-12 hrs a day of usage).
      My main complaint (aside from the stock armrest) is the headrest is not adjustable enough. At highest position it is about 1" still too low for me.
      Sometimes I wish there was a way just to remove it completely.
      Also depending on how far back against the chair you want to sit, your elbows might graze the edges of the back which is a rather sharp plastic mesh (won't be an issue if you are in long sleeves)
      Overall I still think this is one of the best bang for your buck chair at this price point. I should follow-up with a long-term review video.

      @@instructionsunclear4136 I ended up buying the Flintan model and I love it.
      Just bought a headrest from Aliexpress and now this chair is perfect.

    They aren't even able to provide compatible fixed armrest for their chairs (e.g. Flintan)!!! You get for what you pay. Even after COVID you get + 50% price increase in some countries (e.g. France - yes: compae with Germany). Outrageous.

    Why the fuck doesn't the chair have adjustable arms already? I mean why go through the effort to design a fancy chair only to take a dump on it with the arms... lol
