@@AussieArvos I'd get motivated to fix my gu patrols diff centre and axle leak but can't afford shite so patrols already been off the road for 3 months probably gonna be off the road for alot longer.... Rip me
there is a performance increase when you convert to straight pipes. By removing the cat and the muffler the engine has an easier time pushing out all the exhaust gases, which translates to more power. Also the exhaust gases flow out much faster which makes the turbo more responsive and "spooly' which makes the engine build torque faster
A turbo is a silencer in itself so it will be quieter than a N/A vehicle. But at the end of the day you live in Victoria and the highway patrol will use any excuse to pull a modified car off the road so I’d probably keep that Berserker pipe in the shed. Great video guys 👍🏻
Drove around vic for 8 years with a straight thru td42, never had an issue. Even went thru multiple booze busses. Only put a muffler on because it became difficult to hear the kids as they started to talk.
You lads are the best doing it at the minute. Don't change the laid back and fun vibe of your presenting and I'll be a happy watcher for years. Got my stickers ordered, yewww.
3” straight though is the only way to go on a big turbo diesel. more flow the better, don’t listen to the chimps that claim it needs back pressure or tHatS iLlEgaL. gotta have fun with ya cars 🤙🏼
Absolutely mate, and the back pressure argument is bullshit that gets spewed out when people confuse it and scavenging (which is something that only applies to NA engines)
If you don't have a boost gauge yet you should get one. The increase in power from the exhaust is two fold, partly from better flow and also your boost is probably spiking 2-3psi more. If you're living in Vic go take it to JP Performance for a tune. And the difference will be night and day.
I too have a '92 80 (Sahara Auto), while I wish it was manual sometimes so I could be proper 20yro and flutter the exhaust like a knob in car parks, no matter what rpm they sound mint once an exhaust is fitted. PO had a 3.25inch mandrel bent with a single hot dog. I don't like it being obnoxious all the time, so the hot dog is perfect, get all the good noises without cops lining you up. Enjoy it lads, now time to take it to a proper diesel shop and get her woken up (only slightly, no need to be silly).
Mate sounds mint! 3 inch on 1HDT just sound awesome. Imagine how much more turbo noise you will get when you stack a G Turbo on it! If you're anything like me, I've squashed the dump pipe too many times to count
Problem with a noisy setup is when you are driving home at 3 in the morning you disturb people for a kilometre around - everywhere you go, so to put a smile on *your* face, you have to put a frown on hundreds, perhaps thousands and THAT is un-Australian. I know the feeling - I could see it in your faces, but we have to think a little broader than that. I'm sure you guys will run with the quieter setup most of the time and you don't even live the the 'burbs, so kudos.
All smiles. That is as close as you are going to get to a 6bt Cummins sound without it actually being a Cummins. It's like a mini KW truck now haha. Love it fellas!!
Glad to have seen this one, reminds me of when I was your age and modded my cars. The excitement of testing on her was tangable. Keep it up and enjoy the mods.
You'll find the 3 inch does improve but the biggest improvement piece on the exhuast is the dump pipe to the turbo allowing the turbo to push to its full potential. Same concept behind restrictors on carby motors.
I straight piped my kzn185 1kz. It gained a fair bit of power revs past 4k. Lots of turbo whistle and tractor burble. For a 4pot the 1kz is unrefined enough to sound good.
You do get a power increase with most vehicles when you add a more more straight through exhaust but particularly with turbo vehicles and diesels. It's not usually an earth shattering number, usually 0-15 hp but removing a factory restictive muffler behind your turbo and allowing all that exhaust to exit freely, without much restriction, you get a noticeable change particularly in the lower rpms, which is where you really feel it anyway.
Absolutely makes a difference, I replaced my original stock exhaust on my 60series 12ht motor with a 3inch, it pulled harder, ran heaps cooler, and climbed hills way better. - the only mod I've done engine wise. Might invest in a legendex for my GU 😝
the 3"" brings on the boost earlier, mine had a kink in the exhaust above the rear diff that looked factory. made a big difference upgrading the exhaust.
It’s got a bit more power now because you have reduced the back pressure by adding a bigger sized exhaust. The turbo can get rid of exhaust gasses quicker so it can spool sooner and quicker
Tremendous vid boys. Make sure you high temp silicone all your joins and gaskets etc. Itll stop your gaskets blowing out and seal up the system nice and tight like. Permatex rtv or similar
Haha I was the same when I put the exhaust on my patrol. Good funny turning into giddy little kids with our toys! Can't wait to see the 80 and the channel grow!
Sometimes the " drone " on big exhausts when cruising, say 100/110 kmh can be a pain in the ass. I ended up with twin into 3 inch single on my 200 series, sounds ok, and doesnt blow my mind out cruising.
Love this video guys! I know legend x and they are the best. I'm also a big fan of the 80series LCs, they are the most articulate and robust of the LC wagon series so far. I'm subscribing now. Greetings from PNG. Keep up the good work!
Berserker = stealth 🤪🤪🤪 Nice performance upgrade made there, lads. Useful info for those looking for performance/exhaust upgrades. Good vid👍👍👍 Liam now looking for 1HDT ute 😉
Epa will love you soon enough ha ha. I had a nightmare relationship with them for 14 years over a 1db being a 94 model falcon making 91db over 90db limit. They kept suspending my rego after each failed test and called me in for random inspections for 14 years. Only ended when the car was stolen.
I have a Landcruiser 80 series that looks almost identical to this one .... I also have a 3 inch exhaust system on it ( mostly straight piped ) only difference is it was done by Brunswick Diesel in W.A .... and it's attached to a Chev 6.5ltr V8 turbo Intercooled diesel Cobra engine ! ....... and it sounds like Feckin Armageddon !!! 😃😃😃😃😃
If you've got a Maccas or HJ drive through you'll have to switch it off to put your order in.. Be a pain on long drives too. I've got a GU and a GQ (both TD42 turbo with 3" muffled systems) and they are loud enough for me. Keep the muffler section handy, if you're anything like me the noise will get annoying after a while..
Did the standard exhaust have a crimp in the tail pipe where it goes over Diff. I know the standard 1hz and 1fz exhaust does. I changed mine to a Manta exhaust and it made a noticeable difference to the performance over standard.
Just came back to this video again, Pat. I also have a 1HD-T. Have you confirmed that the muffler & berserker are the same HP & Torque figures? What is the weight difference between the stock exhaust & the stainless systems. Also, gave you stuck with the berserker? Or have you put the muffler back on?
Awesome reaction guys 😂 Technical question, with the straight pipe, is it okay for the turbo or doesn’t the turbo on a 1HDT need some sort of back pressure? (Not sure if you are running the stock turbo) thanks guys.
I love the genuine reaction and how happy you are with the 80, this is the only channel that motivates me to work on my fourby
Awh, Thanks Dylan! , we get so excited about this stuff man, absolutely love it! Cheers :)

The smile when you start up the beserker piped system. Priceless
I feel like half the performance increase comes from just driving ya car harder to get that sweet sound of a 3 inch system haha
