Nice system. Very different from the system at GM where they work at higher speeds like in the new Buick Encore and Cadillac ATS. They just warn the individual of an impending collision, or going out of lane, at speeds in the neighborhood of 35 mph or faster to warn the driver of a potential accident. Not sure which one is more effective or better, but I bet they are both useful to a degree.
I am wondering how well these systems will function once the car is 20 years old? Also, if the system will ever act up and just randomly brake for things that aren't even there???
These systems are now about 16 years old (launched in 2008), and there are no reports of the system randomly activating brakes etc. So I think we're safe 😉 Usually Volvo know what they're doing when it comes to safety systems.
The auto industries have used technologies from aircraft Traffic Collision Avoiding Systems (TCAS) systems. It is very hard to avoid the forward and/or front collision because most of the times there are cars around you.
Radar and FLIR or GTFO. And I kinda like Volvo for everything it's done for safety over the years. But in this day and age, even back in 2011 when this was uploaded, Radar assisted controls and FLIR camera systems for avoiding night time hazards, are so much better and not affected by rain like this system. And as Jeremy Clarkson off Top Gear pointed out, it's also really good at finding PAPs in the Bushes, LOL. (PAPs = Paparazzi)
My lease is up on this car. Very nice. Average mileage. I only had city safety go off once and it was for no reason. Software bug. i was less than pleased. Lucky nobody was behind me. Other than that once incident the car was great. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I am staying with with volvo. XC90 next. No city safety or adaptive cruise control in the 90 though. duh. Way cheaper to buy though now though.
there's alot of idiotic comments here.. the emergency braking system isn't just if you're not paying attention, you never know when someone might cut you off suddenly, and your reaction may not be as fast as technology js
For anything from the side, including pedestrians or kids, your eyes should have seen that seconds before technology will...In the video they even tell you that it ignores anything from the side.
Thank goodness for an off switch on this system. There are several other manufacturers putting these systems in cars. The solution to those people who have no business being behind the wheel is not any high tech electronic gadget. It's a simple innovation called the "passenger seat." I do not need a computer taking over driving in my car. No thank you.
You're missing the point. They talked about their innovations and how they've caught on, like the 3 point safety belt, so in the future, this feature will be on every car, so that won't be a problem.
You idiot. This ystem would be useless if it worked as planned Then again; it doesn't work as planned. All cars would be a lot more expensive by including all of these useless safety features. I just want a cheap car that drives pretty well, for safety I have eyes and a seat belt.
Same thing when a human slams on the brakes. Are you implying that this is a issue or concern? All drivers, including the ones behind the Volo or rapidly braking person, should be paying attention to the road and respond accordingly. In most scenarios you can see whats happening ahead of a vehicle as long as you are paying attention.
looks like the argument from the Mini car makers, it was a very dangerous car in an accident, and when questioned about this flaw, then just replyed that they had good engines, nice brakes etc and if the person had an accident, it was their own damn fault, problem is sometimes you can be paying attention and another car comes at you, you can control your car but not everybody elses , thats the problem
yhe but what they dont say is the acident that hapend when showing the xc60 to some news ppl that wer siting in it they tested the stop feature whit a truck in front of them ofc the system faild and they smashed right into the truck ass
nobody's perfect...not even you! it doesn't take control of the vehicle out of your hands...it helps when something beyond a drivers control. ever seen someone pass out while driving, I have twice...as I drive over 700 miles a week. relax mr. perfection.
but this technology i guess is pretty expensive...so, in the future, we cannot expect this feature to be on all cars soon...maybe after 5 to 6 years...
something sounds fishy about this entire thing. Volvo claims that it uses a radar to detect objects and pedestrians. however all radar I have worked with or researched can only see steel or some form of a metal object. and to add insult to injury there is a video of another Volvo with this feature ramming a man who wanted to test this feature. in all honesty it pays to put the phone down or stop whatever your doing and pay attention
First up, what are you doing stuck on a railway crossing? You only go on to the tracks if the exit is clear. If the car breaks down on a crossing, that's nothing to do with the safety system, is it? Second, the advice is to get out of the damn car.
In my opinion all this technology makes the driver from today, which never has time while driving from A to B, be less concentrated and more self concsious about the vehicle. I never would like to drive a vehicle from which I know it could brake automatically. Maybe the government should rather do idiot-tests with people who want to drive, that might help decreasing the road accidents
so if a bug is on the road , the car will stop. and if the plastic bag is moved by the wind in a road with auto cars , then .. sophisticate my ass with a calm advertising voice .
She said the main issue was distracted drivers... Why should we put money into research so that drivers can allow themselves to be distracted more... What kind of parent would play with their child in the back while driving... Facepalm
It would be a lot easier to have a robot-arm in the car that slaps people in the face when they are not paying attention....hard This type of automation gives people an excuse to do something else than driving...
Give it time, Google already has a vehicle to drive itself, Amazon is delivering mail by Droids, vehicles can park themselves at a flip of a switch...humans are becoming overrated!!!!! LOL!!!!
I will probably never understand why such assistance systems are developed only for partial braking, depending on the speed. This is defective by design, absolutely irrational. People who are afraid of emergency braking should never get into a car, especially not as a driver because this is a basic driving skill.
WTF!? HD? are you in a 3rd world? this s the 21st Century! Video Quality is garbage! "If you can't do it right! don't do it @ all! (Joan Crawford) >.< Thumbs Down!

You helped me in middle of road to change my oil
That was the feeling when i went in a volvo xc90 that car reacted so well better than anyone
I am wondering how well these systems will function once the car is 20 years old?

Usually Volvo know what they're doing when it comes to safety systems.
You shouldn't be driving if you can't see stuff going 9 mph in front of you!
It's perfect for modern times! with idiots on their " smart" phones all the times, specially during slow moving trafic
The auto industries have used technologies from aircraft Traffic Collision Avoiding Systems (TCAS) systems. It is very hard to avoid the forward and/or front collision because most of the times there are cars around you.

And thank you for our safety
im wondering how would it reacts to a high-speed collision
hanz haiqyl it wouldn’t do anything. It shuts off at speeds above 18mph
@@nickbien The new Versions obviously address this at higher speeds (up to 185km/h) and even steer away from the crash.
@@saladien9987 yup
its amazing how much safety tech has progressed in 10 years
Quality of the video is below minimum threshold.
hahahahaha xD
That was a video?
Volvo for the win
ok. if thats so, what about the other car behind the volvo if it brakes?
How far we have gotten in 10 years is baffling.
Does it detect motorcycles?
yes
Volvos are VERY SAFE. No matter if the collision is 5 mph or 100, it'll help slow you down and cause less injuries.
My lease is up on this car. Very nice. Average mileage. I only had city safety go off once and it was for no reason. Software bug. i was less than pleased. Lucky nobody was behind me. Does it brake at 25 miles per hour to at least reduce the damage to both vehicles and their occupants.
Have you seen the video? Answer is No
Volvo magic
Thank goodness for an off switch on this system. There are several other manufacturers putting these systems in cars. why no braking at 9 to 18 mph
+Skeptic Spartan Because maybe you want to hit something.

It thinks you are following a car

sounds about right
because speed racism

Anybody know, what´s the top maximum speed, which this system is active?
What a nice voice!
I didn't know Volva owned SAE Magazines.
Why don't yo just overtake of the speed control, dependent on the distance...
so your telling me it doesnt work??
Make it work at higher speeds (above 20 mph)
looks like the argument from the Mini car makers, it was a very dangerous car in an accident, and when questioned about this flaw, then just replyed that they had good engines, nice brakes etc and if the person had an accident, it was their own damn fault, problem is sometimes you can be paying attention and another car comes at you, you can control your car but not everybody elses , thats the problem
it can totally stop btw 15 and 18 mph but can't under 15??? Wired
Yes, because it still have to allow you to manouvere the car in tight spots like a parking garage without constantly applying the brakes for you.
Means the other car is following too close.
So up to 30km/h ? Not bad..
yhe but what they dont say is the acident that hapend when showing the xc60 to some news ppl that wer siting in it they tested the stop feature whit a truck in front of them ofc the system faild and they smashed right into the truck ass
0:09 "does this look familiar?"... No, it doesn't. people who let themself be distacted while driving, shouldn't get a license in the first place.
if you try a 35 m/ph the break is going on?(from cruch from lower speed) yes or not???
The system works up to 18mph, so that's a not.
nobody's perfect...not even you! it doesn't take control of the vehicle out of your hands...it helps when something beyond a drivers control. ever seen someone pass out while driving, I have twice...as I drive over 700 miles a week. relax mr. perfection.
It's probably not a laser system, it's ToF camera...
Tüm Araçlarda Olması Gereken Bişey Aslındada İşte.
Pray that it's a Volvo as well.
but this technology i guess is pretty expensive...so, in the future, we cannot expect this feature to be on all cars soon...maybe after 5 to 6 years...
4:39 You cant say Oh my god? Is that against the law? lol
They don't want to offend any polytheists I guess.
Volvo is from sweden dude, the caliphate of sweden, give them time to switch to allah
In Sweden, it's illegal to ask if it's illegal.
Grant Peterson once said, you pay for not knowing how to use tools everyday.
something sounds fishy about this entire thing. I think when they said radar the really just meant cameras.
Now new cars come with tech that can stop a car moving at 25 mph.
Why was 'God' bleeped out !!?? HAHAHA at 4:37
And, if the rear car dont have this breack system you going to have a nice rear hit
Thats why it only reduces speed instead of completely stopping the car
Forward collision avoidance system? You mean like EYES ?
nice outstanding,
Shouldnt this be presented by a chinese lady? After all they own volvo now.
4:37 ...Credit to Volvo for being considerate to atheists by bleeping the word God..lol
First up, what are you doing stuck on a railway crossing? You only go on to the tracks if the exit is clear. If the car breaks down on a crossing, that's nothing to do with the safety system, is it?
Second, the advice is to get out of the damn car.
The only thing i need is gas and brake. I don't need no other electronic system in my car
No 2020 comments 😳

Not true... If you could prove it that will be great... Ford acquired Volvo to get all the technology it needed and not the other way around..
4:38 "oh my @#$&@@&$"
This is Ford's technology, they sold it to Volvo when they owned them, and Volvo gets all the fucking credit... -.-
зимой лучше не включать
but not all the time dude...you know what im talking about
"Sitty satey"
lol so it won't be active most of the time
Um... No.
"If you're standing still, this system will prevent you from crashing"
These systems with "works below 20mph" are useless
It would be a lot easier to have a robot-arm in the car that slaps people in the face when they are not paying attention....hard
This type of automation gives people an excuse to do something else than driving...
It's not credit to atheists, it's credit to Judaism, who don't usually say god, which is why it's spelled G-D
lmao
that was epic
Give it time, Google already has a vehicle to drive itself, Amazon is delivering mail by Droids, vehicles can park themselves at a flip of a switch...humans are becoming overrated!!!!! LOL!!!!
If your NOT going to pay attenion, then you should NOT be driving.
Mercedes had this first...
but it still don't work as good as volvos
+scanjett wrong. more Volvo fails than Mercedes
More shit on your car more problems i have a 89 chevy and dont have all thes shit good luck she is sexi
Good luck with that horse carriage

Buy a volvo or Learn how to drive and pay attention..
+CAR GUY or dont buy a volvo.
Exactly ... good coment
If softened speed and collided with my driver from behind me stupid
Stupid company
oh yeah ? buy another car from other company and see after a crash if you will survive , and yes, because of volvo today's cars are so safe !
Misleading thumbnail as usual.
индус вообще страшный
Well this is basically useless 😑
given all the fails in demonstrations, i'll prefer to brake my car for my self. kkkk
scrap car Volvo.
