Murray Idaho an Old North Idaho Gold Town. Playing with Aerial Video

  • My good friend, David Eggebraaten, brought his new DJI PHANTOM 3 UAV over to Murray Idaho and we filmed some aerial shots around the area. Historic Wallace Preservation Society is (was) shooting a full documentary about the 1883-1884 Gold Rush around Murray but I am sorry to say that this has been put on hold (yet again) until 2016 due to all the large forest fire's in the area and roads/trails being closed.
I decided to use a few of the aerial clips along with a mish-mash of random clips I had from a few years ago, and some old historic photographs, and edit them together. There has been no color correction, balance, or grading to these. I have also been forced to upload this in less than perfect quality due to really poor internet right now. (THIS 7 MIN VIDEO TAKES 4.5 HOURS TO UPLOAD EVEN AT THIS QUALITY!!) I do not know why our connection has slowed down so much this month (Makes me miss AOL dial up service).
I REALLY encourage you visit David's You Tube Channel and see what an incredible cinematographer/videographer, editor, and producer he really is!! All of his video's are worth a watch. I have added links to 3 of my favorites below. These are MORE than worth the 10 minutes or so it takes to watch all 3. (they are short)
We are planning to work on a couple of other things together in the very near future. I am really looking forward to doing this! So please check these video's out and subscribe to his channel!

This is fantastic - thanks for uploading it! I spent the first 5 years of my life (1972-1977) living in a trailer on a hillside overlooking Murray. I could see kids playing in the school yard at the Murray schoolhouse, but i wasn't old enough to join them, so i'd just wave and wish i was older. I'm not sure who lives up there now, but after we moved, my grandparents bought the property and built a house. They were named Harold and Mary Lou Hanks. As they got older, they got a place in Wallace and spent most of their time there, but would still spend summers in Murray. My great grand parents lived just down the road in the 1884 house from the early 1950's until the mid 1990's when my great grandmother passed away. They were named Charles and Athalie Burnell. Even after we moved out of Murray, we'd return to spend holidays there with family - such wonderful memories. This video is a treasure and really reminds me of so many great times. Thanks again!

A very dear friend of mine, now deceased was the operating engineer on the Guggenhiem dredge there and he taught me where the dredge hit all the hot spots while working it;s way up the creek. His name was Russ Skeeman. His brother was the founder of the big silver strike at Wallace.

Outstanding video and makes me home sick. My folks owned the old Brandon's Store in Enaville from 1970-1975 next to the Snakepit (when Josie Bates owned it). I fished and hunted all up and down the north fork (real name little north fork) and all around Murray, eagle Creek, Pritchard, Steam Boat, Bear Creek and Bumblebee areas. Drank lots of beer in Pritchard at Gloria's Steak House as well as Albert's tavern just over the Silver Bridge. Worked as a hand on Frank Dexter's log truck a few summers in the hills around Murray. Been in that cemetery many times. Keep up the great work. Would love to see you do some video history of the logging and loggers of that area. Men like my good friend and outdoors mentor Archie Jacobsen now long past. He taught me all about the woods, trapping, skinning game and how to fly fish. Nels Swan. The Koske's. Tenhonnen. Hank Vosberg. Roth brothers. Nk Ward. Alho's. The Neerings. And so many other pioneer families that were stalwarts of the timber industry and saw mills of the north fork area, Bear Creek mill, Kellogg Transfer and Linfor (little north fork) Lumber Company. A lot of the relatives of those who built these mills, ran the trucks and cut the timber and piked the logs and rode them down the north fork are still around. Many of the old water shoots still hang above the north fork road where at one time huge logs were sent down from the hills and jumped over the old road and into the north fork river to be hearded and drove down river to the mills by men standing on them and guiding the logs with a big long pike pole. When the men were MEN!! I have some great history info and plenty from my memory as well. You are just the guy I would love to have tell the logging industry's story as you did so well with the miners. Thanks again for your wonderful videos. Get in touch if you need any info of the early north fork.

Passed the opportunity of going thru Murray this past August due to having only a week's holiday, starting in Washington, spent the last two day's in Wallace though, and I do love this area, hope to make a few more trip's, and yes, Murray will be on that list.

Thank you for the great walk back through time. The North Fork country is one of my favorite places to visit. We almost always make the side trip to stop into the Bedroom Goldmine for a cool one and some snacks.

Ted, your video is wonderful! You incorporated aerial scenes very nicely and professionally. Using aerials you are able to help tell the story of Murray, from its beginnings to the present. I like the aerial down main street and structures contrasting with the vintage photos you displayed. Your editing worked seamlessly! Great job, my friend! You even made me laugh at the closing credits! Yes, I did watch the video from start to finish (more than once!) We must do more! Thanks also for the link to my TH-cam channel. You are too good! I must get even! Dave.
