I tend to love blues and dark colours in my home, but in winter they just make me feel sad. So I always change my bedding to bright colours in the winter and try to introduce colour through my house where I can, and I’ve found it makes me happier 😊

My girl you need one of those lights for people who have seasonal depression. I can tell you're really going thru it, I totally feel that. I HATE winter and autumn. The cold wreaks havoc on my joints and I'm always just so tired and depressed. I'm so ready to have warmth and greenery outside again.

I love doing the butterfly method in spag for “string of” plants. It’s much slower but I think it gives a more stable plant. Plus if you do it in soup containers it’s super easy to pot up!

I used just straight up peat moss and it was super quick, took maybe a month until I could see the roots at the bottom on the container.

I live in a cave so I have tons of grow lights up this year in my livingroom. So much nicer for mood having the brightness. I have also been collecting small vintage pots from ebay. Planning on cactus and succulents this spring. I live deep in the Midwest so it has been very cold and my house is bermed so not many windows. My best window is north facing and I live on the edge of a forest so I can't see the sun much even if it is out. Daydreaming of spring so I can play out in my rock garden and hear my chickens make their happy it is warm again sounds!
Thank you for teaching me about making my own soil mix. I am an oerwaterer so now my mix works with me instead of against me.

I totally understand where you're coming from with the lack of sun. It affects me a lot too in the winter. So happy to have spring here now. And it's amazing how much more energy I have now. Sometimes I just step outside my house just to breathe in the air. Nothing like a mix of sun, plants and ocean air to make me feel better. (I live in a beach/vacation town)

Hey Fern. You're not alone. I too am really struggling with severe Seasonal depression. Living in Oregon, so similar to Canada. If your t jade is weak where it hits the edge of pot, use some decorative Spanish mose or moss sheet and lay it under that area. Its helps the weight where it pinches a bit at kpot edge.

Wind one of the vines for your string of plant back into the top of the pot and pin it down so it roots and shoots new vines up. Then trim up the rest. I prop butterfly style directly into soil with a ziplock on top. Works awesome.

    Hey Fern
    Loved your video as usual.
    Ohh your poor Jade plant
How sad 😢 it was so beautiful but the upside to this is that you had lots of cuttings from it and will grow to be bushier.
All your plants are just so beautiful they really are
Love what your plans are for this year and making your plants bushier.
Aww Fern I feel your pain honestly, that is why I have not commented lately as this time of year my depression gets worse and my illness and pain, as I am sure I have told you I live in England so always raining or snowing and sometimes both Lol
Before my mum passed away we both moved to Fuerteventura (Canary Islands)
As the temperature year round is great lots of sun.
But Mum missed home so we came back so I am trying to get back there but it is not so easy being on your own with Multiple Sclerosis but I am trying hard.
Why not consider moving somewhere hot for yourself as you mentioned it in one of your recent vids. It’s not easy but it would help you with your mental health. Try and keep your chin up, I know it is easier said than done.
Hey it is nearly spring and that is something to look forward to Yay
Sending lots of love ❤️ your way and positive vibes.

My SOH has done really well with the pin down method. My best prop situation for my soh is in little short container with soil. I've tried water spagh butterfly. Love your station of hearts.

I kind of giggled when you were saying spring is close 😂 we get snow sometimes all the way into May. I just chopped some ridiculously long bits off my h. Linearis, wayetii, and verigated waytetii last night and threw them in my prop box 🤞

Snow in May should be a crime 😤 lucky for me, we start seeing signs of spring here in February. Like flowers popping up and stuff. But still lots of rain until May-ish too 😩

Haha!! I've been chopping a bit early too! I just couldn't wait any longer🤦 SOH, Micans, Brazil, Obavata ( Same issue, one long strand), h.publicalix, AND a few scindapsis😂 I'm planning on making a Frankenstein pot with a few of those so I'm pretty stoked about that little project😄❤🌿

I butterfly my SOH, lay them on some fresh soil, place them in a bag and place them under a grow light. I make sure the soil is moist. Hope all of your propagations do well. I live in Wisconsin we finally got some sunshine otherwise it can be really gloomy and super cold. I know all about those winter blues though.☀️♥️

SOH are fast grower in my experience. I just "butterfly" mine and root it directly in soil and its already sprouting new strings!

My normal Jade plants propagate so well in my prop boxes! you should see if the trailing jade does well in a prop box as well!

For your string of hearts that is sparse on top: I would Position the bulk of how you want it (to cover the top) and add a few pins (even just bobby pins). They will root and stay there in no time.

When doing leaf propagation with Jade leaves just lay them on top of the soil. They will send out roots into the soil.

I totally understand you with the sun thing. Sometimes I feel like a weak plant just because of luck of it. And I also wanted to mention that I have been following your journey for more than a year now and the ZZ Raven just stays in place XDDD ZZs won't stop surprising me.

@@wildfern maybe it has too big pot or something. I know that people say that it's growing it's bulb (I guess that's how it's called) and then leaves from it
Or it needs more light because it's very dark or more nutrients? ZZ are both easy-going and hard to understand 🧜🏃‍♀️
