    Thanks for the info Michael! The Pump Sentry 822PS I bought from you several years ago is such an excellent setup for reasons you mention in this video. Anyone with a finished basement (or not) who is tired of rain soaked power outages that floods your basement should absolutely invest in the Pump Sentry system.

    I just bought a house with a sump pump. I know nothing about them. Mine is a single pump with a marine battery connected to it. I just bought amd hooked up a new marine battery because the old one looked really old. But when I tested it with the sump pump unplugged it didn't do anything. It doesn't seem like the battery is connected to to make the sump pump actually pump water. Is there a way to connect the battery to the pump for this? Its a liberty pump 1/3 hp.

    So if your pump dies you are screwed if you don't have two. I have three with a second backup that runs on a water jet.

    I like the sentry system (seriously I do - I almost bought one) but - 1) Pumps fail on their own - number one being the mechanical float switch mechanism. How do you know your primary is not working anymore? Don't have one pump if your basement is important to you 2) Secondary Backup pumps are now available with routine weekly self testing and monitoring to ensure they work, your battery is good, and you will know all about its condition via your smart phone 3) Battery pumps are available these days at higher capacities (close to the same as AC powered 1/3 hp pumps) and can handle normal events on their own in most cases 4) In a heavy water event even your primary pump may not have enough capacity and get overwhelmed - a secondary back up pump and join in to get that extra water out. 5) You dont have to get packaged dual battery pump - use a separate one - letting you run on one pump until the other is replaced. 6) You can add multiple batteries to the better made battery backup sump pump brands. Again I think the sentry system is really good - allows you to use any AC powered pump you want, high quality USA made device, but please have a primary and secondary pump and look into alarms.

    I guess the main question is, is the likelihood that the primary pump will fail (while having power, whether from cord or battery) negligibly low? I'd say not really. At least here in NJ, most sumps I have seen have no problem keeping up with water entry, and they're mostly 0.3hp units. But they do fail often for reasons not having to do with power; debris gets in the pit and float gets stuck, or the float switch fails or sticks on its own, or the pump burns out altogether. In which case I'd rather have two pumps.

    I get it. Gotta regularly test the backup pump. I was thinking about adding a second battery to it for longer run time. Now I’m thinking it would be better to add the battery backup system for the main pump. It gets $$. But one water intrusion is more expensive.

    On the other hand, having a second pump is a backup to when one of them fails.... Is it an exception to the rule of having a type of battery backup, when you have an automatic standby generator system?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. The automatic standby generator is going to have a bigger load than the battery backup.

    Do you know if this system can handle multiple sump pumps? Have a friend with a beach house that has a full basement and they have 7 sump pumps grouped in different corners of the basement. They are looking for some sort of a backup in the event of a power loss.

    • @jeffscott1543
      @jeffscott1543 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will take either a separate backup for each, or a whole house standby generator.

    • @wes326
      @wes326 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory he could get a multi battery bank with a large inverter to power all the pumps. Or multiple battery banks and inverters to power two or three pumps at a time.

  • @wenbeauty68

    I know this question has been answered before but I didn’t understand the replies. If your pump fails and you have this battery back up system, is there some type of an alarm or something that will alert you to the failure of the pump?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wendy B. - You can detect a malfunctioning sump pump by installing a water alarm. When you are away from home, what happens? In the case of a malfunctioning main sump pump, every crawl space should have at least one battery-operated backup sump pump. We appreciate you watching and hope you have a happy & blessed weekend.

    I have a battery back-up sump pump. Though the power very rarely fails here, my sump pump does occasionnaly trip my GFCI. This of course leads to the battery back-up pump operating until I reset the GFCI. In other news, I need a new primary pump.
