There is a maintenance free battery option available.

Great video! I have the same pump that I'm about to install. One thing I've read or seen in other videos is not to have an additional check valve in the waste line. Since the pump already has check valves for both pumps, you can get air lock in your line by having an extra one.

I recently installed the same pump at my residence. I did not have an existing sump pump so I first had to install the sump pit. I also chose a battery sold by Basement Watchdog after looking at options from other sources. I considered a maintenance free battery, but ultimately decided on a wet-cell one which I had to add acid to. the battery, including the acid, was approximately $40 less than the maintenance free battery sold by Basement Watchdog. I purchased the acid locally from an auto supply store as the freight to ship the acid is expensive. The battery I bought is the model 30HDC140S which has more run time than the other wet-cell battery from Basement Watchdog. The pump system has been installed for approximately one month and thus far everything has worked very well. We lost power for several hours during a storm just before Christmas and the battery backup system kicked in and emptied the sump several times during the storm.

@Senanalqoshnaya1820 Pump system still working well here. Only maintence thus far was to add acid. We have a generator for back up power, but battery backup for sump pump has worked on occasions where I have not had time to connect generator.

Now they do offer a maintenance free AGM Watchdog battery that is compatible with this sump pump back up kit and it doesn’t require acid it costs $179 at Home Depot

I bought the same pump and like you said it comes with the check valves already installed, so why didn't you eliminate the old check valve?

I ordered a Mighty Max 12V 100 aH backup sump pump battery for my Zoeller 508 backup sump pump. The shipping box looked like it had been banged/dropped since one side was wrinkled (like an accordion). When I pulled it out, I noticed one of the bottom corners was slightly rounded, not squared. Is it still o.k. to install?

just to note on another model of the Watchdog pump, the wires to the battery are black and white. BLACK GOES TO POSITIVE, WHITE TO NEGATIVE... Kind of odd to me.

Why did you keep your original check valve on considering the system already has pre-mounted valves? Does this add extra bit of safety to avoid water backflow?

I have a couple of questions. What is the small diameter clear tube coming out of the sump pit from the pump? Also, what is the white water sensor going in to the pit? Is it wifi to notify you of high water level?

Your link is showing the 1/3 hp model. 419.00 at Home Depot for the connect version 1/2 hp minus the module needed for WiFi. The WIFI module costs about 125.00. I'm replacing my 25 year old Watchdog with the old unit as a backup to the new system. Don't buy the Watchdog battery, get a large marine maintenance free battery instead. 10 years so far without adding water is not bad. Yeah the battery is still up to specifications.

I have a watchdog pump also and something that they never tell is that this pump switch is timed. What I mean by that is let's say you want to test it: you trigger the float switch with no water in the pit, the pump will run for an amount of time regardless of the switch position.
For me, it means that the pump will run more than it's needed after the water in the pit is gone, creating an air lock and water will flow back in the pit until the water level is high enough to stop the back flow. Other regular pumps use a level switch and will stop the pump the second water level is low enough that the switch is turned off. Maybe I should position the switch higher on the shaft so the timing fits with the water level not draining too low...

Make sure to add a 1/8 weep hole to prevent air lock. Can place it about 1 inch about the top of the check valve.

@flannelguydiy6458 98% of the pumps we service. Fail due to not having a weep hole. Cuases the pump to lock up or continue run non stop and not evac the water out of the pit basin. Been in the field over 22 years.
