What a lovely video. As a Sudbury Town and District Councillor it was a pleasant surprise to see Sudbury head your list. I will publicise your video widely.
Great video, I have visited all these towns over the years. It has inspired me to revisit a few. Framlingham is a lovely town and also features in TV's Detectorists.
King Edmund was supposedly captured whilst hiding under a bridge in the very pretty village of Hoxne (pronounced Hox'n). Interesting video, Aldeburgh is a particular favourite and the next coastal settlement of Thorpeness is always worth a visit!
Another great video. I'm lucky enough to have visited all the towns on this list. If you go inside St Gregory's church, you can see the skull of Simon Sudbury. He was Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor before a mob of revolting peasants decided to remove his head in 1381.
Nice presentation Alex I’ll give you 9/10, The missing 10 is for not mentioning the most cleverest and funniest tv series in recent times ‘The Detectorists’ which was filmed In and around Framlingham ! But I still subbed you. 😂
Great video. Surprised you put Sudbury at number 1 - I'd probably put it nearer the bottom of the 10 myself - but no complaints! Love all of your picks. Thanks for doing these videos - a nice escape from everything.
Good video and very well made. My partner lives in Sudbury and I live in Colchester. Show me what town hasn’t got its good bits and bad. Sudbury is a nice little town and as I spend most of my weekends at my partners we go to most of those towns that you showed and all have there good bits
Yes some good choices. I regularly take family and friends to Southwold, Aldeburgh & Framlingham as somewhere really nice to look round.........and where do I live? Eye! Maybe I should pay more attention to my home town. I've never thought to take them on a visit around Eye! 🤔 😅😊
Thanks. Funny you should ask - my next upload's going to be all about the cities of the north! As for this series of prettiest towns, I'm essentially rippling out from where I started in the southeast.
Really love these Top 10 videos you make, Alex. So inspiring! Can’t wait for the northern counties, especially the Yorkshire counties … hopefully soon? 😄
Hi you don't mention that Woodbridge was a major boat building town for many years and is now building a full size replica of The Sutton Hoo burial ship .
400+ villages so don't blame you. Framlingham is also well known by fans of The Detectorists. Bungay is the only town mentioned here I have not been to yet, it is on my list though
Bungay plagued by cars clogging the streets and common in most market towns - new estate sprawl unfortunately. Aldeburgh and Southwold in a different league imo. Fabulous filming.
I remember Framlingham from a holiday my family had there in the mid-70s. My parents were in a particularly miserable part of their unhappy marriage & my sister & I both gasp in horror nowadays at how ghastly the whole experience was for us as young children. Nothing to do with Framlingham, of course. But it has associations. 😮
What a strange list. Have lived in Suffolk for nearly 50 years. Never been tempted to visit Eye. Wouldn't call Clare a town. Lavenham more of one! Bungay??? Even autocorrect came up with Hungary instead. Sorry ... this does not seem researched.
OK, so Clare is a town as it's had a market charter since the 13th century, and its local governing body is Clare Town Council. Although a parish council could still oversee a town, but not vice versa in regards to a village. Why not visit Eye? It's lovely. Bungay sounds like Hungary in my accent, does it? Interesting. Do you have any more complaints about my research you'd like me to address?
This is undoubtedly and sadly true. Sudbury has it's centre spoiled by a car park on the Market Hill. Attempts to change this brought the ire of all the petrolheads and the surviving Tory councillors in Suffolk. Your mention of the damage Beeching did followed by the decimation of Suffolks network of bus services means the county is car dominated to imho a sad extent.
You put Sudbury number 1!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really? It is crime ridden and full of charity shops! You don't even mention Long Melford - with Melford and Kentwell Hall? How bizarre!!!
I did mention that I'm not including villages though, hence no Long Melford. Sudbury's crime-ridden? Could have fooled me. I didn't find it sketchy at all, but then I do live in London currently. By the same logic are you saying that London, Paris, Rome, Prague etc are ugly?
I was shocked to see Sudbury as number..i visit it most weeks ..live between bury and Sudbury..i wouldn't call it pretty..as you say there is nothing there ...maybe one good card shop my wife likes
People seem to be mixing up aesthetic with shopping experience and crime stats. Sudbury is a very picturesque town but not number 1. I think the list works better in reverse order.
I reported you for misinformation. If you had bothered to check the crime figures for July you would have seen that Sudbury falls easily into the bottom half of the towns mentioned if you take away the 27 reported from a village in the district. Where can this den of thieves be? Lavenham!
If you're not interested in work opportunities , relatively affordable housing, decent transport links , fantastic parks, a younger population and a bit of urban bustle I guess you have a case.

Ah, thank you very much!
Enjoying this series so much - many, many thanks.
Sure, no worries!
Great video, I have visited all these towns over the years. It has inspired me to revisit a few. Framlingham is a lovely town and also features in TV's Detectorists.
Thanks, and that's interesting - I may have to look into Detectorists!
Great video and too the point. Thanks for taking the time to put these together.
No worries, thanks for watching!
Good video - I've lived in both Sudbury & Hadleigh + know most of the other towns!
Ah nice, thanks!
@@AlexinGreatBritain 👍
Very interesting as usual. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I was surprised and delighted as a resident that Bungay was two❤
King Edmund was supposedly captured whilst hiding under a bridge in the very pretty village of Hoxne (pronounced Hox'n).
Interesting video, Aldeburgh is a particular favourite and the next coastal settlement of Thorpeness is always worth a visit!
Great video Alex, any chance you can do Norfolk please thanks
Thanks! I certainly plan to do Norfolk. Probably sometime next year.
Superb as always, Alex!
Thanks for the kind words!
Good vid. I live between Eye and Fram and you didn't mention the great kebab shops in both towns!😂 Beautiful place to live Suffolk.
PnG on top
Great vid as usual Alex
Cheers!
Nice presentation Alex I’ll give you 9/10,
The missing 10 is for not mentioning the most cleverest and funniest tv series in recent times ‘The Detectorists’ which was filmed
In and around Framlingham ! But I still subbed you. 😂
Ah, thank you. And I'll certainly have to check out The Detectorists now!
Great video. Surprised you put Sudbury at number 1 - I'd probably put it nearer the bottom of the 10 myself - but no complaints! Love all of your picks. Thanks for doing these videos - a nice escape from everything.
Thank you! Yeah, it is entirely subjective after all, and there's very little separating any of the towns featured here.
Woodbridge in 1970 I was a waitress in a Grand Hotel thankyou hugs fm New Zealand
Southwold so very beautiful many times I walked the beautiful pavements..hugs fm New Zealand
Good video and very well made. My partner lives in Sudbury and I live in Colchester. Show me what town hasn’t got its good bits and bad. Sudbury is a nice little town and as I spend most of my weekends at my partners we go to most of those towns that you showed and all have there good bits
Great video Alex, Suffolk is very cute.
Thanks, yeah it's easy on the eye. Oh wait, I've just made another Eye pun!
@@AlexinGreatBritain getting better, practice makes perfect
Awesome video. Great to see Sudbury get some gratitude 👍🏻, only ever slagged off nowadays 🙄
Yes some good choices. I regularly take family and friends to Southwold, Aldeburgh & Framlingham as somewhere really nice to look round.........and where do I live? Eye! Maybe I should pay more attention to my home town. I've never thought to take them on a visit around Eye! 🤔 😅😊
Love bury st Edmunds, went to 2 different schools there in the 70s and Would quite happily live there
No Newmarket? Didnt look at the developments going on at Lowestoft/Oulton Broad?
I used to live in Woodbridge a beautiful quiet place but oh so perfect..
Lovely stuff.
Thanks!
Love the videos. When are you going to come up North? 😉
Thank you! The northern counties may take a while yet, especially North Yorkshire considering how massive it is!

Oh I'm sure you'll enjoy Bungay if you do pay it a visit!
Thanks!
Thanks Dianne, much appreciated! :)
Another great video!
Thank you!
@@AlexinGreatBritain you’re welcome. 🤗
Hi Alex, delightful sojourn as usual ; but i would want Bungay as first.
Oh, it was very hard to choose a winner this time round and there's a strong case for Bungay!
@@AlexinGreatBritain No placing for Beccles?
Lavenham is a town by me by virtue of the fact that I'm not a Suffolkman but I've heard of it, which I can't claim for two or three on your list.
Sudbury in front of Woodbridge, Framingham, Clare and Hadleigh? Crazy.
Then you have the villages and hamlets, all contributing to Suffolk having a top county for architecture listing.
Bungay plagued by cars clogging the streets and common in most market towns - new estate sprawl unfortunately. Aldeburgh and Southwold in a different league imo. Fabulous filming.

Thanks, Gabriel. That's very kind! :)
Is a Dorset video on the horizon soon??
It certainly is, but probably not until sometime next year in all likelihood.
Achingly beautiful.
I wish that could live there, but I need the City and Heathrow to be close. Hence, ugliness.
I can relate entirely!
What? Haverhill didn't make the list? I was born in the town and went to Sudbury Grammar School on the bus every day passing through Clare.
I personally would put Felixstowe top of the list.
In some counties Lavenham would be counted as a town...
Can't argue with your choices, though for reasons best known to himself my grandad always referred to Sudbury as 'an arsehole place.'
In a list of top ten towns in suffolk, you know it's not going to mention Ipswich or Sudbury ?
Look at No. 1.
Woodbridge certainly is more worthy than ten

I can't believe you left out Haverhill.
List is the wrong way around. Bury st edmunds should be close to the top and Sudbury close to the bottom.
What a shame all these pretty villages have now become nothing but giant car parks. Kills the ambiance somewhat. That’s progress I suppose.
This is undoubtedly and sadly true. Sudbury has it's centre spoiled by a car park on the Market Hill. Ok
The worst place in Suffolk is it’s county town 😢
