    I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan with a evaporator leak that showed up about 5 years ago. I have been successful with stopping that leak using "InterDynamics Car Air Conditioner Refrigerant Stop Leak Kit". It last for about 2-2.5 years then I need to put another can of it in and this is how it has been so far. This is a 1000+ dollar repair and I have spent about 75 bucks over the last 5 years not repairing it and it blows really cold air. Car has 200K+ miles.
    BTW: I just now needed to put 1 can of 134a in after the last leak stop can installed at least 2.5 years ago but I have to say that after charging the system and installing leak stop you will loose a little Freon until the leak seals

    I used it and my orifice tube stopped up. Had the system evacuated, removed the compressor and checked the amount of oil that came out, flushed the system and the compressor. Replaced the seals and o rings, put new dryer in after adding new pag 46 oil to factory specs to all parts needing it. Pulled a vacuum closed valves on the manifold, turned off the pump. Let it set a few hours with no loss of vacuum. Started pump back up and pulled for another 30 minutes. Filled with 27 ounces of Freon. Works great.

    I recently bought a can of this at Oriellys.....costs $10 est. Did finally have time to add it to my ac system in my 01 toyota corolla....since it was cheap, I also bought that AC relay and plugged it in....conclusion, WOW!!! at first, my car blew cold air due to adding more freon.....then, it became cold but not that cold...but with constant driving in town later.....HOLY COW WOW!!!!!

    If you have a leak on a 2009-2010 Chrysler Town and Country, or Dodge Grand Caravan and it is equipped with the rear heat/AC option, there's a good chance the leak is in the rear. Cheapest way to repair is to bypass the rear refrigerant. Only the front AC unit will cool the vehicle, but it's an easy cost effective repair. My shop was able to cut the lines under the vehicle located below the passenger seat. $125 repair 4 years ago and still cools. Remember if you do this repair do not run the rear unit for AC, it will blow hot air only. Winter the rear still works just fine for heat.

    Your mileage will vary. I'm a mechanic and I used it on my 2006 Altima whose AC system would no longer last a month because of a leak.
    Unfortunately it gummed up my AC compressor and caused it to disintegrate (sounds like a rock tumbler).
    I have no doubt the leak stop caused it, but also the system being old didn't help. Quick fixes are always a risk.

    I've used this product successfully on four (4) different automobiles I've owned over the years. All four of them developed slow Freon leaks from age and mileage. The aerosol cans which are sold by Red Angel proved problematic in that they tended to leak from the delivery tubes and NOT properly dispense the product into the suction side of the system. But being somewhat stubborn I bought the red angel in plastic bottles and found that it works well when it is inserted using the proper injection tool.
    The manufacturer clearly specifies that Red Angel ONLY works on slow leaking systems and mine required weeks to leak to the point they no longer put out cold air. But ALL four (4) of my vehicles were successfully repaired with no more leaks even after a year.

    These products that condition seals do work pretty well I have had good luck with them. The leak is usually the compressor shaft seal. Keeping in mind that you're really on borrowed time, they can delay the inevitable for a couple years. If you are losing refrigerant as fast as you are adding it, nothing is going to help you.

    • @robertbell525
      @robertbell525 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @CALICOTV301 if the leak is where the line attaches to the compressor you may be better off detaching it and replacing the washers or o-rings. If the leak is substantial, leak sealer won't help. Plus you are better off with a real fix and since you know where the leak is and can access it, I would fix it properly. Compressor shaft seals are better candidates for sealer since you have to replace the whole compressor.

    I would not normally attempt such "stop leak" products, but my 2010 Focus has a leak at the evaporator, which to replace requires removal of the dash and a ton of labor. The car is otherwise in great shape and well-maintained. My goal is to get it through summer 2023, at least. I figure $45 on a recharge kit is worth a try- as the evap replacement cost I've been quoted is near the value of the car.

      You just screw it onto a can tap, screw down the valve to pierce the can, attach it to the low side port (it's the smaller of the two refrigerant line ports on an automotive system), and open the valve again, shaking the can as it goes into the system.

    • @OneTrueCat

      If you're using a small can of concentrated leak sealer, there's only about 50% refrigerant (a couple of ounces at best) in there to act as a carrier and propellant, so you're probably going to need to add some refrigerant, too, unless you're adding it before the system stops working again. The only way to know for sure is to see whether the head pressure is in the appropriate range with the system running.

    • @OneTrueCat

      Dye is great, though usually it's not red so much as UV reactive, and you typically need a UV light and some glasses to see, and it is OBVIOUS when you light it up. It literally glows under UV light. The same principle applies when looking for coolant, fuel, or oil leaks, too, using appropriately formulated dyes. I've been fixing cars both at home, and for a while, professionally for almost 20 years, and I swear by that stuff when I'm looking for "invisible" leaks.

      Thanks for this information, but my understanding is that this particular product is not UV reactive. It seems to just be a red dye. I have seen many of the UV products, but this product seems to just be a plain old dye, presumably similar to paint. So my question is whether anybody has any experience with this particular product's dye-detection quality, which is not UV. So any info on this particular product and this particular dye would be appreciated. (The can just says "dye," and it says nothing about "UV." Every other leak detector I have seen gives instructions for the UV part.)

      Its called A/C flush. Get with your local parts store. You don't need license for it, at least in the US. You're still gonna want to replace the orifice tube and maybe the expansion valve (if your vehicle takes either one or both) but you will need an A/C machine that will pump/cycle the solvent through. It'll take about 30min. Then you add oil per vehicle manual then evac the system then charge.

    • @brianrolshoven9387

      Your system is jammed up only....if you add refrigerant or air pressure in the low port... and the high side Gage still reads zero. If the lowside is filled to 100psi and highside reads zero..You have a clogged orfice tube /filter or a stuck txv valve.
      a good system will work this way.....adding pressure to the lowside......the highside will slowly equalize with the low with the engine off.

I would be more concerned about the lubricating oil lost through the leak(s). There is still some pressure on the system when the compressor stops engaging so there should be no contamination. If the leak was on the vacuum side it would be rare that air is being sucked in because the leak would occur with the engine shut down. Then when the car was restarted the compressor wouldn't engage.

    It seems this ac stop leak is just mineral oil with red dye. it charges your system with a bit of 134a as well.
    I had a slow leak it took 2 weeks or so to go to zero.
    so I yanked both shrader valves at zero charge.....the 134a was gone... I installed this stopleak (knowing the 134 in the can would be lost.)
    but i wanted all of the red dye to enter the system quickly.
    so after the leakseal was in the system i reinstalled both schrader valves....and used shop air to pump the system to 120lbs.
    I fired the vehicle and turned on the a/c for a short blast.....just to circulate the stopleak.
    Its been over a month now.....and the system is holding the air pressure at 120psi. I feel confident now to evac the system and pump it full of 134a and it will hold.

      What in this video do you feel is false?

    • @84combat
      @84combat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      False=your claims about sealant use ...and how it prevents expensive repairs at a professional shop. It costs what it costs to repair properly. Your experience with sealant does not make it good to use. Just because it is legal to sell and buy AC sealant doesn't make it good to use. When you don't do the full recovery, evacuate, and recharge you potentially leave air, moisture, or an unknown amount of refrigerant in the system that circulates with whatever refrigerant and sealant you install. Air enters the system when refrigerant leaks out. Air contains gases that do not change to liquid when pressures change throughout the system like refrigerants do. And, moisture freezes in the system. When you add sealant, you are creating a situation that will make it more expensive to repair the system properly. Sealants cause damage to compressors, condensors, evaporators, and a tech's/shop's AC equipment. They are carried by the oil throughout the system. They coat small passages in evaporators and condensors, reducing their ability to transfer heat. The damage they cause to compressors depends on the design of the compressor, but I assure you no automotive engineer wants sealant in a compressor they designed. Professional, competent HVAC techs do not install sealants. They test for the presence of sealants and most will refuse to work on the system if sealants are found...because they damage the shop's equipment. Some competent professionals will work on a system that tests positive for sealant if the customer is willing to spend the money to replace all components and flush the lines with a special chemical. There is also some add-on/in-line equipment that claims to trap the sealant in a filter before it reaches an AC machine's internals. These devices can only reduce the likeliness of shop AC equipment damage. But with the variety of sealants available in the market, there is no way to be sure it stays out of the shop's AC machine or a tech's AC gauge set.

      @@84combat ' Air enters the system when refrigerant leaks out ' . If it is small leak that only occurs with pressure more than atmospheric, the leak will not let air in. With compressor running low side could theoretically pull into vacuum which would pull air in, but most system have a low pressure switch that cuts out the compressor avoiding that situation.
