@@juanc5149 I need to get into this conversation. I think Makita and Milwaukee are the best for your money first thing. I tend to lean Milwaukee though, but really can't knock Makita if your into that brand either. First off, the video you shared is tightening power. Wish he would have reverse threads to show loosening power, because tightening isn't always needed at above 250ft-lbs. Loosening is more important. Also the way its designed within, loosening and tightening is not always designed the same within the tool, there are many little secrets to make the tool more powerful in loosening than tightening. Finally I'll say this, these both perform pretty dang close in the tightening shown and are the top tools, back to my first comment. Yet, an HO battery was not used on the Milwaukee, and I'd put money on it, that a 6ah HO would change the outcome. Not sure if Makita has an HO equivalent, but, I believe not.

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

It’s because you can just tell your Snap-on guy to put it on their account and he’ll show up weekly to collect his payment. Most mechanics are on the hook for thousands of 💵 for their overpriced tool boxes. Mechanics have been brand brainwashed by them for years but many are switching to Milwaukee.

    • @jonnylong7927

It's cause you can buy the snap-on on a payment plan, and you also have the truck coming to the shop weekly to take care of any issues, and also the snap on guy will usually help you out when you get into a bind. The Milwaukee is better I would say but you don't get a dealer who bends over backwards for you when you buy milwaukee.

I think it depends on the product, for power tools I don’t touch snap on, matter of fact I actually go with matco (and would love to see a head to head of that) however if you look at some of the rounded head technology for example snap on out performs the other brands. You just gotta research and see what’s better. For the ratchets I also personally prefer snap on, and I’ve had a chance to use mac matco and snap on for all 3 however that’s a personal preference, all 3 are good.

Again, I’ll restate.... I’m a Milwaukee guy, have lots of their tools and love them. But I’m not going to lie about what’s happened on more than one occasion. We also tried a friends Milwaukee just to make sure it wasn’t something with mine or the battery, didn’t change anything.

This is a great review and it looks like the Milwaukee kicks the crap out of the snap on like most of their tools. But does anyone have any real experience with this? I am an auto mechanic and have an m12 stubby 3/8” impact that is strong enough for almost anything. If it can’t get it off, it is probably an application for the 1/2” m18. With my m12 I can remove and also install engine manifolds, pulleys, brackets and small suspension stuff. These high power 3/8 tools might not be so great for the smaller stuff. That is why they need an adapter for the tests. Just get a 1/2” wrench for the big stuff.

I traded it in after about a year and a half, and bought a Milwaukee 2962 1/2 inch on clearance and im very happy with it. It's better in every way and now I can free up more space since I only have milwaukee power tools and chargers now. I also don't have an issue with the battery staying in the impact like on the snapon. Id have to smack the battery on because it would fall out just enough to shut off the impact. Very annoying and I hate the battery latch design.

The only real complaint I hear about the Milwaukee versus Snap On and DeWalt from people who use them daily is the batteries. M18 batteries tend to be loose and can vibrate off the tool. M12 the tabs break. I agree, the M12 tabs suck, but the tools are great. Haven’t yet had any issues with my M18’s. They definitely bring the power.
Was a little disappointed to see the Snap On underperform the Milwaukee by that much. Snap On does tend to understate their torque, and in other tools, performs closer to comparable Milwaukee’s. Not this time.

Drives me crazy using the Adapter It robs a lot of power 19mm 3/8 socket would have been good you’re only working with 3/8 Big torque numbers will break a 3/8 bolt. Snap on better get it together

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There is not a lot of slop and it's not robbing power. The Snap-On is only available with a 3/8" anvil, and you can't find a 3/8" x 33mm socket. We can't use smaller fasteners because they won't hold up to this amount of power. Therefore, we welded a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter to a 33mm socket. The Snap-On is getting it's but kicked by a 2-year-old 12-volt Milwaukee that is less than half the price. It's not even close. Thanks for watching.

There’s no doubt that the prices snap on charges is outrageous. It’s also no surprise that the gun that won had specs that were nearly double the competition. But now I’m going to say something that I know is probably going to cause a lot of people to disagree with me, not believe me, call me a fan boy, shill, etc. I’ve got the original (at least 6 years old, probably more) snap on lithium half inch full size 18v. impact gun. I forget what it is rated at but it’s nowhere near the 1,400 ft pounds the new Milwaukee is rated at. Despite this, time and time again in real world usage in a shop, my snap on gun will remove fasteners that the Milwaukee won’t. Even when the Milwaukee was on a freshly charged pack and the snap on was on a pack that was only at 75%, the snap on still removed fasteners that the Milwaukee wouldn’t. There are 4 of the new high torque Milwaukee guns in my shop and all of them failed to remove what the snap on did regardless of how long we let them impact on the fastener. Again I make no excuses for snap on charges, their prices are too high and I almost always recommend the Milwaukee tools to technicians, friends, family, but in the end my experience has been the the best snap on used to offer beat the best that Milwaukee currently offers.

A blind man could see that the inflated Snap-On tool price is an ego booster. The same for their tool boxes. Doesn't everyone need a $800 3/8 impact and a $15,000 tool box to work as a flat rate mechanic?
One thing not discussed was the cost of batteries and the battery warranty. The Snap-On warranty claims "The item will be Audited at the Replacement Processing Center". Is the battery being pro-rated for charge cycles, or is this their way of saying, send it to us, before we say, too bad, so sad?
Milwaukee has a 3 year warranty on their M18 batteries. Additionally, Milwaukee batteries from 2.5 amp hr all the way up to the 12 amp hr battery can be used.
Snap-On charges $197.95 retail for the 5 amp/hr battery. For the same price, the tool houses sell the Milwaukee 12 amp/hr battery.
I repaired pneumatic tools for my Snap-On man. The majority of the Snap-On branded tools used Chicago Pneumatic or Ingersoll Rand parts. Since we know, Snap-On isn't manufacturing their own battery tools, who is making them for Snap-On?

We have no personal bias whatsoever. We only seek the truth. Could we have accidentally mis-counted on 1 fastener by 1-1/2 seconds, I'm sure we could have. However, you have to understand that we've compared this Snap-On against the Milwaukee M18 Mid-Torque, M18 Compact, and even the M12 Stubby impact that's 2-years-old. In all of these instances, the Snap-On lost significantly. It's sad that such an expensive tool is so terrible in performance. Snap-On should have never released this new tool. Thanks for watching.

@Nathan if you are questioning the durability of the store guns I will let you know I have a dewalt 1/2 I use everyday. That thing fling across the shop on the regular. Falls off the lift, Sock goes one way, battery goes another, and the gun soars through the air spinning like a ballerina only to crash into the ground like a meteor. And with that said ive never had any issues with the gun. However, a fellow tech has the snap-on counterpart which is currently being rebuilt and he never drops his gun and doesnt put it anywhere near the abuse I throw at mine

Boy am I glad that I became a mechanic in the last decade. Milwaukee is just eating Snap-on's lunch in the schoolyard & giving out money to the poor kids. Just the warranty alone would make me switch but to save 5 hondo & beat the specs, its a no brainier! Also don't forget about the other tools in Milwaukee battery platforms......I could build you a house & fix your car & still have money left to buy you dinner!🤣😂🤯

It does make it unfortunate for those who have heavily invested into snap-on due to Milwaukee not being around. Myself and many other snap-on mechanics I've worked with all agree that you don't blow your money on any of there 18volt range. I have the 14.4v range which iv been extremely happy with, but even us fam boys know that Milwaukee is king of the brushless game.
