Thanks it was really lovely watching you fish a beautiful river. I cannot wait to get started again as our season has just commenced. But I am not allowed to self isolate on the river so I just have to wait. Your videos have kept me well throughout the winter months.
Thanks for the comment Norman and glad you enjoy the videos. Nothing is scripted it's just me rambling on, chatting as if we were on the banks together. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but whatever, what you see is what you get. 😊
I was able to fish the Don at Kintore,Kemnay,Monymusk when at university in Aberdeen.Such great memories and sometimes results with dry dark quill and Greenwells glory and parachute Adam's....that was in 1979 to 1983!Think it's time I came back !!
I have taken a lot of Don fish on the good old parachute Adams myself. Access is reasonable on most of the river and most beats limit rod numbers, so you won't be fishing shoulder to shoulder with others. The river is not overly busy even after masses of articles in magazines over the years. The beat I was on yesterday is 100% C&R for all species, not sure about others.
Many a happy memory of days spent there freezing our butts off in the wind and rain waiting for the March Browns or LDO's. I also seem to remember Alex accidentally catching salmon next to that posh hut. Hope you are well Fred and thanks for the uploads, enjoying them v much. Buzz.
Yeah Mark I remember those weekends well. The beat has changed a bit with the floods. still worth a visit though even if the fish were not big yesterday. Good to hear from you again mate.! By the way that ZXL I was fishing with yesterday was the one I bought from you. Best rod I have owned. 😊
@@browntrout54 Yeah well Alex, still fishing despite being cafine deprived.....Good to hear your thinking about me after watching a fishing video as opposed to when you are in the shower or last thing at night!!!! I hear you are still catching all the big fish everywhere, you have not changed then! Would be good to catch up, no doubt we will bump into each other at some point whilst chasing some where with a tolerable water level.
@@wildfisher I owned a ZXL? My love of fast stiff rods is waining, it must come with age eh! Great to hear your dulcet tones again, you really do have a wonderful turn of phrase. Anyway if you are down in the central belt please shout, i still owe you a bed for the night and an evening of putting the world to right around my kitchen table, we can do a double and catch up with Alex as well? Keep well and tight lines.
I didn't arrive until 10.00AM. I should have been out earlier as the fishing was screwed by midday. The wind was howling downstream by 12.00 and with the glare and the heat it was like standing in front of a space heater. Still enjoyed myself though, a bit of a homecoming on a lovely bit of water. 😊
hey wildfisher, thanks again for posting your vids, always enjoy watching them. All my fishing is still water trout, but have been looking to expand the c.v a bit. a lot of the local still waters are coloured up with algae and weeds. best wishes jim
You really are a keen Fisher, this hot weather is not for me,fished up there years ago,it really is perfect broon troot water,it's a treat just to fish water like that, nice video.
@@wildfisher you mentioned the Deveron, had a great week up there on the Mayen beat, had a log cabin and an old land rover to run up and down, had 2 grille, 14 Sea-trout to 8lb,and at least 40 troot to 3lb,it was a family holiday ,only fished early morning and last thing at night, lovely river, that was 20 years ago.
Lovely video again sir the river is very like upper clyde one of people I fish with now and then is from your neck of the woods and used to fish the deveron a lot he used to get lot of big salmon of it and he got a brownie of think he said it was about 15 pounds while fishing for salmon
Yes the Don and Deveron both hold some huge trout as does the Clyde of course. All are great trout waters. Times have changed and all the landowners I know now value trout and trout fishing and see it as a valuable asset. 😊
@@neilandrew961 It tends to vary from place to place. Some owners do nothing while some do a bit. Reducing invasive plants like hogweed, mowing access paths etc but yes, some do sod all. 😂
Did you say £18 a day, I am moving to Scotland, I pay a little more on the Test and river Kennet.. great video, beautiful river lovely wild brownies. Tight lines
The prices vary depending on the beats. I see to recall that lower down the river it was more expensive. The Aberdeen Angling Association has a lot of water around the city which offers good value. 👍
@@wildfisher Hi Fred, I could probably get a years fishing on the Don, for what I pay for a day ticket on the Test or Kennet, plus less Angling pressure, enjoying your videos mate, tight lines
@@wildfisher Ok , when I am nymphing now I put one on point and a wet fly on dropper, works well and I think may be worth a go on your lovely local stream.

Aye Mark, next season on the Clyde sounds good, we will need Alex along to supply the pale ale and chilli mussels. 😂
Looks a fantastic river to fish , done well to get as many in those conditions.👍

It's worth having a go at the river fishing if you can. It's quite different and a fine change. 👍
Nice one Fred, nice to catch trout in a bonnie day mate..cheers Stevie
Thanks Stevie it was an exhausting day for an auld man like me, but great to be back there. 😊
I was wading in shorts and trainers a couple of weeks ago, at Alford. Caught my first Don Trout. Gorgeous little fish. Which beat is this?
It's part of Kildrummy . I used to fish Alford regularly wen lived there. Nice water.

A size 12 weighted pheasant tail nymph tempted the tiddlers! 😊
