    You are from heaven!!! Thank you SO MUCH. As nice as it is to go to the doctor and hear "You're fine, go home", that doesn't make me feel much better when I'm lying in bed at night feeling PVCs and freaking out. Understanding WHY these are happening to me is such a powerful method of calming myself back down. I am one of the people who feel every PVC (which feels like a curse, my father in law has thousands a day and feels none!) and you have helped me to retrain my brain when they happen so I can say "Look, this is just your stomach acting up again, you know it is the vagus nerve connection", and I can settle myself back down much more quickly now. The truth shall set you free! God bless you! Much thanks from Missouri, USA.

    Whenever I get a skipped heartbeat, I become really anxious and the vicious circle of skipped heartbeats and anxiety starts. I try to think about different things just to take my mind off that but it rarely works. But since I have been going through your youtube videos, they sort of work for me just like a medicine and I am so thankful to you for that.Your explanations are so much reassuring. Thank You doc.Cheers

      Dr. Gupta explained that when we are at rest, our heart rate goes down. That gives our heart more time between beats for ectopics. When we are moving and exercising there is less time between heart beats and less time for ectopics to form. That really helped me..

And no doctor has ever given me anything like the information you have in your videos. I am going to try the magnesium, the breathing and I am also trying to give up artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame as I have a lot of sugar free gum. Any opinion at all of these substances?

    This is exactly what's happening with me and my anxiety. I feel ever beat from the heart and pay extra attention to the rhythm and worry something can go wrong. On another note, I get extra paranoid about any sensations coming from the upper chest area. Regardless of what that sensation is or where it's coming from, as long as it's from the body area, it triggers my anxiety. And then it goes int a loop. Sensation-anxiety-more sensation-more anxiety. It sucks. Here's a question no one seems to know how to answer. Is it the sensations that cause the anxiety or is it the anxiety that came first and created the sensations? Which ever comes first, it's just a horrible feeling.

    it is not only the hyperventilation. I believe it has something to do with oxygen level. some people get PVCs when they shallow breathe, or have a stuffy nose, or full stomach. So it is like the heart is asking for more oxygen and it starts to tell us.

    • @NickEnchev
      @NickEnchev 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it has to do with keeping your breaths natural and relaxed. Too fast, or too shallow, or too deep is unnatural and leads to some sort of imbalance. Learning to let your body be relaxed and breath as much as it naturally needs is probably the best thing you can do.

Then one palpitations episode later and for the last 7 months I’ve felt every heartbeat and I am perpetually aware of my heart beating and skipping beats. Kristen631 the reassurances works for only a short period of time. With PVC, no matter how much reassurances you get from doctors, it's still drive a person crazy. A least that's what happens to me. I have done every test there is out there for the heart and had 2 ablation, 5 different cardiologist who have ensured me that my heart is in perfect condition and one actually said my heart is better then hers. It's still very hard to tell yourself everything is ok doing an episode of PVC. With my case, I think we figured it has a lot to do with my stomach and the vagus nerves, too much and too less stomach acid both creates PVC for me. Hope you'll figure yours out. It's horrible.

    • @Pinguini61904
      @Pinguini61904 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sam Wong oh believe me I know! I've had countless ER visits and tests done short of an angiogram. I didn't qualify for an ablation cause mine were too random and on the left ventricular outflow tract which makes it harder to get to to ablate. Finally they have stopped. I still get them from time to time but not nearly as often as I was having when they started. It was a nightmare I lost so much weight because of how much anxiety it gave me. I still get anxiety but I've learned to cope. It takes a lot of practice and determination and some days I let the anxiety win. It's just a constant battle. I hope you can find a solution soon. I know what a hellish ride pvcs can take you on.

I tend to get these weird jolts as I try to sleep if my breathing is out of whack, or when I've had stress/anger/anxiety filled days from either my work or fighting with a loved one. Nothing has helped me more than learning to take slow (not too deep) breaths, and learning to completely relax when exhaling. There's a real reaction from the parasympathetic nervous system when your breathing is relaxed which helped me a lot. If I don't make the effort to relax my breathing like this, I feel my pulse MUCH more, alcohol has a MUCH more negative impact on my rhythm, I feel palpitations much more often and my sleep suffers a lot. Trust me guys, make the effort, its worth it. There's way too much bad advice or incomplete advice out there in regards to breathing exercises. The missing piece is that they never talk about how to "relax your breathing" when you're generally an anxious person. In my case, I tend to carry tension in my lower abdomen, lower back and glutes. Having tensions in these areas makes it IMPOSSIBLE to actually have a relaxed, slow breath, and also a relaxing slow exhalation. Pay attention to where you carry your tension, learn what it feels like to completely relax those areas of your body, then practice keeping those muscles relaxed ALL THE TIME. I've always been very consistent with working out, but have had a small gut as a lot of others do, which led me to subconsciously keep my abs a little tight as not to show that. This is a really bad habit and must be broken first-thing if you're going to even begin to try and keep your breaths natural.
    When breathing in, imagine the breath filling your abdomen all the way to the bottom (above your groin). Imagine your rib cage expanding in the back, a full 360 degree expansion, but not too sudden, slowly and light. This will make sure your diaphragm can expand as its more of a mental exercise to help you relax. If you cannot easily and slowly breath this way, read above and narrow down exactly which muscles are tense and keeping you from controlling your breaths. When exhaling, don't push the air out, but rather COMPLETELY relax your muscles and let your diaphragm contract on its own. This empties the lungs slowly ands allows the bohr effect to take place and rebalance your carbon/oxygen levels.
    This comment has gotten kinda long, but if you're going to take anything away from it, really make the effort to understand your muscular tensions. Most of us here are generally anxious to some extent and most likely carry these tensions. Understand them, learn how to relax them and then be absolutely mental about erasing them. You have to constantly be aware of them until they are no longer habits. Habits are hard to break, but not impossible, put the work in and you'll thank yourself later.
    Another thing I've learned is from studying some of the Buteyko breathing techniques is how important it is to breath in slowly via the nose. Breathing through the mouth is usually faster and leads to chronic hyperventilation, but another little nugget of info is the fact that your nasal passages produce nitric oxide, which is a vasodilator that can help reduce your blood pressure and heart beat just in itself. If you have trouble breathing through your nose because of trauma, or stuffed up from allergies etc, deal with this as soon as possible as it will really help with your quality of life. Consider a neti-pot which might open up your nasal passages and keep them clean and allergen free for a little while.
    I'm not a doctor, I'm a programmer, so don't take any of this as any kind of medical advice. I'm just a overly analytical person who has spent a lot of time trying to understand why I feel the way I do, and keep a mental journal of how things make me feel and what works/doesn't.

    • @LisaIrby
      @LisaIrby 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick this is excellent advice and I've also found that when I'm feeling anxious I often breathe with shallow breaths. If I slow down and lengthen my exhale, it does calm me down. I also carry my tension in my abdomen and low back and I notice if I'm feeling anxious that I'm most tense there. I am like you and have done lots of research (I'm analytical too) and I think poor breathing habits for years just fuels any anxiety I may have.

    I just wanted to say thank you for recommending high potency magnesium supplements (400mg)! They have really helped me! I started the supplements in December 2018 and felt relief almost immediately. The ectopic beats are almost gone now. I still have one here and there but before God sent me to your videos, I was having them multiple times a day. I still keep track of when I have them but I feel so much better not experiencing this everyday! Thank you and keep up the good work!

    Thank you so much for this video I found it most interesting. I have had Paroxismal Atrial Fibrillation for 10 years. Had 3 failed ablations, 3 Cardioversions and a pacemaker fitted 3 months ago in preparation for an AV node ablation. The pacemaker will now stop my heart going too slow (set at 60 BPM). My cardiologist as a last resort is trying to increase the Bisoprolol to help prevent another AF episode and to avoid the AV node procedure if possible. I have had 33 AF episodes so far and have been in hospital 13 times last year. As well as this intollorable condition I have had breast cancer to deal with and an overactive Thyroid. So you could say I am a VERY anxious person and do worry about my health. Since I had my last ablation 4 months ago I do get a lot of ectopic beats which are very distressing. I am told they are missbeats and nothing to worry about, but I DO. I have experienced them as a pre - runner to another AF episode. I am going to try the Magnesium and see if it will help me.I would love to stop this frightening cycle. They tell me that even if I have the AV node ablation I will still experience ectopic beats. Love your videos by the way they are so imformative, thank you so much for your time. How about a regular peek at Bluebell, a definate thumbs up for us all!

      @@megan21201 I don't know if I can help you but I want to try, because I have had almost identical experience for past 6 month. I went to 3 cardiologist and have done several tests to know that my heart is fine, but it doesn't help the anxiety to go away.
      The pills might help for a while but the main thing that has to be changed - what you think about your ectopic beats. I am almost sure that you really want them to go away. And each time they come back after disappearing for a while it drives you crazy (well, at least it was like that for me). I guess that fear that they are not leaving is a part of the reason they always come back. Unfortunately I can't give you an answer on how to befriend your ectopic heartbeats, but I can say for sure that it would help to stop waiting for them to disappear entirely and just keep in mind that now it is a common harmless thing your heart sometimes does. And by the way, magnesium has helped me (thought I had to do several courses of it to take effect). It did not cure my ectopic beats, but when my heart "skips the beat" I feel it like 10% of what it felt like 6 month ago.

    I have health anxiety and more specifically cardiophobia, I’ve become very inactive because of a couple of chronic health issues but ultimately it’s the fear of a cardiac event. At 32 it doesn’t make me feel very good that I’m trapped by this fear, I’m considering private cardiology tests because I can’t seem to trust my previous tests and various doctors and nurses. I ask for further testing but my requests are denied which just feeds the fear. This video is helpful at least in the short term while my anxiety is in rational resting mode. I would have to save to be able to afford a consultation but these videos will hopefully help

  • @RobbsHomemadeLife

    I have less ectopics now and I think one thing that has helped is I stopped taking my Metroprolol at night and only take a half dose in the morning. if my pulse is in the sixties while at rest I take a half dose (12.5 mg) before bed or if my heart is going to fast while I am inactive during the day i take a half dose but otherwise I feel I am having much less ectopics now that i have reduced my Metroprolol. Before I would almost always get extra beats at bedtime 20 minutes after taking my PM dose. I also think I was getting afib at night because my heart was beating too low and then I would take my dose before bed and make it lower while sleeping which caused m to go into afib.
    I do take magnesium and 2 grams of vitamin C a day and eat a very simple diet and walk 4 times a day and have lost 20 pounds. The keeping a log of what I eat and do and what was happening when the afib started and stopped has helped me tremendously.
    The link with anxiety is also spot on as I have no co morbidity factors, My afib occurred in October 2014 when we were at the height of the ebola virus scare and I had worked myself up into a very worried state. when I went to the hospital for my first Afib I was more worried about the poor doctors and nurses who I knew were going to die when we got ebola than I was worried about my heart. Also I had just spent three years previously caring for my mom who had Alzheimer's so my life was constant worry. I think worry and pessimism is one of the biggest causes of afib that is yet unproven., along with inflammation.
    hope this helps some of you.

      I have what they call a Wandering Atrial Pacemaker which causes the ectopics. When it was really bad I went into atrial Tachycardia, got chest pains and spent several days in the hospital while they nailed down the diagnosis. A beta blocker got it under control for three years but then when I was seeing doctors for another matter (fruitlessly, I might add) my anxiety level rose and the palpitations came back in spite of the beta blocker. A cardiologist added a calcium channel blocker, but I was allergic to that. They lasted for more than six months, until I went on the magnesium, Cardiovascular Research Magnesium Taurate Capsules, 180 Count from Amazon. I take one a day. I believe they are 150mg. I'm doing well now.

    It sounds like a cycle. You have low magnesium, which causes ectopic beats, which produce anxiety, which leads to shallow breathing, which depletes magnesium, which causes ectopic beats, which produces anxiety, which leads to shallow breathing, etc etc. If you can break the cycle at the magnesium or breathing stages, you can exit the loop. Breathing exercises and vagus nerve massages lower the heart rate and reduce anxiety, which is useful when ectopics are occurring. But increasing magnesium seems to prevent the cycle from starting in the first place.
    Thank you Doctor!

    I really enjoyed this video and found it tremendously helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping all of us with these palps!! Also, I would recommend getting more active on instagram to grow your channel. Instagram (for me at least) seems to be the way to go! ~~Mary :)

    I suppose it's also possible (some of) the causal arrow goes in the other direction: palpitations provoke anxiety because they are uncomfortable and/or disturbing. Experiencing palpitations themselves could also be increasing the awareness of same, for an add-on effect on anxiety. In my own case I've got the added curious development of pulsatile tinnitus secondary to minor neck injury (whiplash)-- ensuring even better awareness of peculiar beats... ;)

    Love how you present this info. I have had heart rythum issues for 25 years. Drs. Just say it is benign sinus arrhythmia. Whenever I have an event I drink carbonated drink to porduce a burp or belch. Has always brought my event to an end.
    Yesterday heart started beating about 140 to 160 bpm and lasted 20 hours. Went to bed rolled over on my left side and the pulse went back to 65. Drives me nuts but still don't want to go through a lot of tests or surgery at 85. Your information has been so reassuring. I do take Lisinapril for BP, is there a better choice?

    I was wondering if anyone knows the type of magnesium he suggests. I tried going through the link at the website but it just takes me to Amazon, not to the specific magnesium on Amazon.

    What is your feeling about the rise of cell phone use/emf and the rise of cardiac arrhythmias?
