    I had AFIB when I was 35 years old. My Cardiologist told me I had PVC and it was normal and not to worry. Never told me anything else. After years of asking for more info, asking questions of my own docs, getting referrals, and doing research, I have just learned more about it in the last 60 minutes after discovering Dr. Gupta's videos. Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart. All I needed (and have needed for the past 5 years) is an explanation of WHAT it is and WHY I shouldn't stress myself out everyday over it. Thank you so much!

    Ectopics have ruined the last 20 years of my life, and continue to since they seem to be getting more frequent. That being said, Dr Gupta is literally THE only reassurance I’ve ever had about this very specific condition. And the fact that he freely gives this information especially via free web-chats is just astounding. God bless this man 10x over 😭

      If you cannot find the trigger(s) - mine is black mold, why not look into ablation? Also, look at histamine, insulin, and inflammation, food/all allergies, change environment, pets. If you're in the US, find a functional medicine doctor.

      He says he does not know how it feels and that's why he wants to try to understand his patients better; he has real empathy as well as intellectual curiosity about his patients' experiences and how best to help them. This is what makes him different from most cardiologists and most doctors in general in my opinion.

      I am having ectopic beats for almost a year, my doctors said that it's definitely not the heart and I need to find what causes them. I have had so many theories and my heart has always acted like I was right (like when I thought that it's related to my stomach somehow and I've got them right after I ate or when I was really hungry) until I visited the doctor to prove my theory. It always appeared that I was healthy and it could not cause ectopic beats, and right after the news they always started to behave differently (but I have had them every day in different quantities: some days 4-10, some days probably more then 10000).
      Until I finally came to the conclusion that it is stress related. Then I have had almost a week with no ectopic heartbeats for the first time in 6 month.. And I have felt them only in stress related situations since then. Who knows, maybe some day I can make them totally disappear (or almost).

    Two years ago I ended up in A&E with ectopic heartbeats. This channel was the first place I really got any answers and reassurance. Two years later after numerous tests, with stress and anxiety management, taking magnesium everyday and with more exercise - my ectopics are far less but more importantly I don’t freak out when they do happen. That’s been the biggest change. They were taking over my life. I’ve taken that back from them. Keep up the great work with your videos 👍🏻

    • @bibistar1111
      @bibistar1111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, glad to hear you are feeling much better! I was wondering what specific Magnesium and how much are you taking? Also what type of stress and anxiety management do you practice? I take Magnesium Glycinate about 250mg but haven't taken it for long to know if it's truly helping. Hope to hear back!

    • @Xrakes
      @Xrakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Marybeth Moreno hi there. I started off taking Magnesium Taurate and that certainly helped. I’ve changed though to a MAG365 which is power format and can be made into a hot drink before bed. This seems easier on my system.
      In terms of quantity, I believe it’s approx 150mg per day which around 40% daily recommended. This works for me. I found that taking a higher dosage caused my leg muscles to twitch (strangely).
      For anxiety, which really only happened after I got panic attacks during ectopic episodes, I downloaded a popular app for relaxation. It helped going to sleep and walking the routes where I had the panic attacks. It found it invaluable.
      And obviously talking about what was happening with friends and family also helped. Explaining that it wasn’t just in my head. These were real and they freaked me out. Badly.
      Now I understand they are not dangerous. I accept when they happen and that they will happen most likely again. Accepting it seems to have helped and they rarely happen these days.
      So all in all, try not to panic. I did and it took over. It fed into a cycle of ectopics. The more I worried the worse they got, and the more I worried.
      I’m back on the right track now. The futures bright. Hope that helped.

    • @bibistar1111
      @bibistar1111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Xrakes Thank you so much for the insight. It's a relief talking to someone who has them also. I just started experiencing these pvc's about two weeks ago. It's been a really rough time because of the fear of unknown, I've gone to the ER twice. I even had to take some time off from work because of the anxiety it's causing me. Luckily I have a good support system (family, therapist, etc.) and Dr. Gupta has been a God send for me.
      The past few days have been getting better, less anxiety and panic episodes. For the past few days I have been taking Mag Glycinate (powder form)about 250mg daily, potassium 99mg, Omega 3 oil, B complex (for emotional support) and also a high grade multi vitamin. I also cut out fast foods, sodas, caffeine and not all but a lot of sugar intake. I had all my test come back normal and have a healthy heart while at hospital. I'm currently waiting to send off my two week heart monitor for results and talk with cardiologist further.
      I honestly think it is linked to my eating habits and anxiety/stress because when I am calm I don't feel them as much. I do feel them more in certain positions like when I 'm sitting in a car. Which sucks cause my job is driving an 18 wheeler. Ugh! Why me?? I guess the faster I realize they are harmless the better quality of life I will have.
      Again thanks for the info! 😊

    • @Xrakes
      @Xrakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Marybeth Moreno well for what it’s worth. I similarly ended up in A&E twice and yes my ectopics are linked mainly to stress and anxiety. The good thing is that once you know that, and all your tests are clear, then you can focus on managing your stress/anxiety. Just don’t let that fear take hold. If you can do that then there’s certainly light at the end of the tunnel.
      All I can say is it’ll get better. The internet is a bad place to seek knowledge but this channel is the exception. You’re off to a good start. Best of luck and health!

    This is so reassuring instead of making us feel like we’re imagining it all as most Dr’s have made me feel all my life. In order to deal with it alone I have pretty much come to the conclusion that ‘It hasn’t killed me after all these years therefore it’s best ignored’ and that has helped me not worry however the strong pains still take my breath away so your reassurance that if it temporary it’s unlikely to be doing any damage is very helpful. Seeing cardiologist tomorrow for Echo results so if she says all good, I’ll feel a lot more reassured too after your explanation of what they look for in an echo 👍🏻

    The only doctor who relieved my anxiety to some extent about ectopics. Thank you.
    I try to avoid ectopics by strictly following suitable diet and work/rest balance or changing body position and doing breathing exercises when it comes to it. I would not ignore them as occasionally one becomes a few, then series and then atrial fibrillation might kick in. This is after having ablation procedure more than year ago. Better than measures mentioned above are regular mindfulness exercises and practice helps most.

      @@margaretbinns3134 I had a second ablation 2 months ago. Something they missed first time. Still on medication, ectopics now and then, but the result will be clear only after coming off medication in January. Also I have to mention recent discovery. It became obvious that carbs in my diet were killing me and I had no choice but go into keto diet. Changes so far are promising in only two-three weeks. The time will tell. Mindfulness practice still work very well, especially in the middle of night if mind goes in to panic mode due to past experiences. Mindfulness enables me to distinguish between what mind tells me and what is perceived in reality. Usually reality is: everything is within normal range and ectopics now and then is normal too. Hope this helps. Thank you ☺️

    • @deniskundrat7161
      @deniskundrat7161 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@margaretbinns3134 Sorry, I feel I need to mention this in addition for more complete picture as I really feel for people who go through similar experience to mine.: At age of 54, AF was not my only health issue. Massive difficulties with digestive system, long periods of dizziness, mid and upper back muscle problems resulting in difficulty to sit or stand for considerable amounts of time. No specialist could pinpoint the problem, so, no treatment for that. In light of this I came to believe that AF, ectopics and other heart rhythm issues are activated by other processes in body, since above mentioned are paroxysmal, not happening all the time. Therefore it would be important to find something that helps specifically for you.. And this is no simple matter. Out there are tons of information that can be not suitable in your case. Also, capability to think clearly and distinguish is reduced by declining body condition in general. To overcome this a great deal of mindfulness would help. Mindfulness extends to understanding that if I fail to correct things: it's Ok too. I emphasize mindfulness as the key. No person is same and only you can see what is going on inside and what suggestions to apply learned from others. Hope you find your solution. Best. Denis

    Hi Dr. I had what I thought were some basic, anxiety created chest pain. GP sent me off to see a cardiologist. Cardiologist said it's nothing, but that I needed a stress test to be sure. I did that, and it showed an abnormality indicative of having a blocked coronary. That led to a CTCA scan, which then showed an apparent 100% blocked coronary, leading to an angiogram. Despite all that I felt physically fit and well. Other than now extreme anxiety. The angiogram was done, which then showed my arteries were perfectly fine. It was the most anxious and crap experience of my life. Watching your videos during that time was very reassuring, and very informative to me during that experience.They all corroborated my hope that I had nothing going on, and eased some of the anxiety during that time. @Danaos I notice it’s when I relax as well. Especially if I sit or lay down quickly, like basically falling back into a chair or on a pillow, then I will notice some odd things. I’ve had 2 holters, one for two weeks, now I have a loop recorder. I’ve had an echo as well and it only showed a mild leak in 2 valves. But so far nothing my doctor has any concern over. Basically they all say that, in my case, it’s likely nerves/stress/anxiety. It’s hard not to be scared when you feel such things though.

Ectopics in my case always come after sitting down, laying down, eating or just before having a big fart coming up, all situations that can press the vagus nerve, so that's the best explanation i can muster. Why do some people feel ectopics and others dont i guess it's because of different vagus nerve positioning or pressure or twisting, i dunno. I went to a private cardiologist and got some tests which confirmed everything was fine... If you read about them, there's no proof that eating has anything to do with them. Really ? Well I'm afraid it does, because it does me too. Depends, because it's not all the time. Some experts say, don't try to identify triggers because it doesn't work, and I do believe that !

    Dr. Gupta, you are a gift to us all. Your expertise is matched only by your compassion and empathy. Oh, how I wish we had cardiologists within the purview of most Americans. I had a nuclear stress test after I had a CAC scan with a score of 492. My cardiologist never called about the nuclear stress test. When I called, the receptionist told me “everything is fine.” The cardiologist , although he did not speak to me or explain anything, threw another 10 mg pill of Amlodipine at me. This means 20 milligrams of Amlodipine. No one cares. I’m simply a cog in the wheel. Very disconcerting. Very recently , I discovered your videos. They not only impart the knowledge we need but also provide a comforting and reassuring approach. Thank you. I know my words are not chronologically cogent with life but please accept my condolences for the loss of your father.

      @JimGriffOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danangdevils
      For you, I have no idea about your medical history and/or your health status, so cannot give you any advice. However, I can let you know how I solved mine and the causal factors involved.
      I developed multiple food allergies and sensitivities after a vaccine aged 12. I didn't know this at the time, and many foods were causing my heart to beat irregularly.
      Later in life (late 20s), I figured this out after looking at the science of H2 receptors in the heart and histamine. When the body releases histamine into the blood stream, it can lock into H2 receptors in the heart, causing inotropic and chronotropic disturbances (irregular beats, basically). This is oversimplified, so if you want to look into the science yourself, it'll provide some deeper insight.
      One thing that led me in the right direction was the fact I had hayfever and would take an H1 antagonist anti-histamine (cetirizine) in the Summer months. Summer was usually the time my irregular heartbeats subsided somewhat, and Winter was when it always came back strong. So, the anti-histamine action had a pronounced effect on the severity of my irregular heartbeat. That's how I realised it was related to my immune system.
      So my solution was to take a daily 10mg cetirizine hydrochloride (over-the-shelf anti-histamine), as well as cutting the foods from my diet that were causing inflammation and irregular heartbeats. The elimination diet took a very long time (years), as it was very difficult to find every single food straight away. Now I'm 100% irregular heartbeat-free, 24/7/365, unless I'm testing a food/spice/herb I've never had before and it comes back due to an immune system reaction. Never felt healthier.
      Hope this information is of some use to you. But remember, I don't know anything about your medical status, so please don't think of this as 'your' solution. It may/may not be. But from my experience, and from talking to other people (anecdotally) who have had similar transient irregular heartbeats that come and go, it's been related to their immune system response to certain foods they occasionally eat.

      @@JimGriffOne thank you so much for your detailed response, I really appreciate it and I’m glad you’ve finally got rid of them! I have no prior medical history, fairly normal 41 year old, did a half marathon the other week and they came out of the blue after that, died down for a week or so then have come back with a vengeance after I ran a 5k. And they’re always worse when I’m sat down or in bed. I’ve had a blood test so waiting on those results and I’m being booked in to see a cardio specialist as I also have health anxiety issues so the doc is covering all the bases. ECG showed bradycardia, and tachycardia.
    Holter monitor showed PVCs, SVTs, skipped beats, and extra beats.
    Stress test regular and Nuclear shows no damage to theheart as of right now.
    Multiple echocardiograms show as normal.
    Theory is I've damaged / interpreted my Vegas nerve from having my lower esophageal sphincter muscle stretched 10 times due to EOE. That and triggers of stress, anxiety, and caffeine is causing the etopic beats.

    Been suffering with ectopics for 20 years now, had been severely anxious for most of that time but now I find myself fine most of the time when I get an episode of skipped or extra beats. It's only the runs of rapid or irregular heartbeats over maybe 5 or 10 seconds that still freak me out. It feels like my heart is out of sync, if that makes any sense.

I have had fluttering maybe once a year for years, but since last October they have become much more frequent along with me slowing down and experiencing dizziness at times during my 3.5-4 mile morning walks. This concerns me, but I have not really been in a panic about it. I had an EKG that was fine, I just got results of 48 hour holter monitor during which I only had two mild flutters, but an hour after taking it off a had a big one. Doesn't that just figure. LOL It showed the two flutters as Premature Atrial Beats, which from your videos I realize are not something to really worry about. When it started I thought maybe it was my slightly leaky valves had gotten worse, or that I inherited Wolfe Parkinson White from my mother, or I was going to have a heart attack like my dad and need bypass like him, or that I had an enlarged heart like my grandmother. Like you have said, we do start to worry about everything. I'm grateful for what you do here because it has helped me to understand this better and relieve the concerns, even with my family history. My palpitations started end of 2023 and had a few more episodes before last week. When they came back again and haven’t stoped for seven days straight. I’ve been to the ER twice they sent me with a heart monitor saying everything looks good. I have a hard time sleeping because I hear my heart beat all night long and my heart rate seems to stall in the mid seventies never reaching my normal resting heart rate. I’m so exhausted, anxious and tired. Listening to this kind cardiologist has helped ease my anxiety a lot. I still have no answers to why this is happening to me. I just entered menopause and I wonder if that could be a factor. I have cardiologist and endocrinologist appointment this coming March. I pray these palpitations ease and go away soon. Thank you doctor for your reassuring explanations.

      Magnesium Glycinate, 300 mg each night. Thats what I use. It's the most effective type of magnesium.

    Thank you. We need so much reassurance when experiencing ectopic. I am taking a high magnesium and a banana for potassium. I find this helps.
