I have the same but with 5800x3d and I have set the resolution in pitool to 3300xsomething and no msaa in ams2 and anisotropic filtering to 4x. After restarting the headset I get 120hz on Nurburgring at dawn and in the dark… graphics is still very awesome and only at the start going down to around 100-105hz… acceptable. I do notice my CPU’s load is always 1% headroom and my gps can handle a bit more further in the race…
Cool. The night scenes are difficult to run in AMS2, it doesn't handle the other car lights very well at all. To reach 120Hz on the 4090, I found running the headset at native res and NIS upscale at 80% with OpenXR Toolkit ran best. Graphics set to medium, on day time races.
Pimax are running 8% off everything (8 years Pimax) for December which I think is a bigger discount. See video description for coupon code 🏁 EDIT: Just realised you mean AMS2 🤣
@@jamierichards925 I've been trying to understand why the game crashes for 2 weeks, I've written various places but no one seems to have this problem except the 2 of us
Yes I can. I've done a few live streams a few hours long. The only thing to watch for is making sure you have a charged battery to swap in and pause in your game session to do so. I get about 3 hours from a single battery.
@@HamVR thanks I’ve just purchased the Quest 3 and plan to keep it but hopefully for more standalone and alternative VR experiences and go to Pimax Crystal for my sim racing
Good vid mate, nice 👍 And if you could run fpsVR we could see your fps & frame timings. I have same crystal & pc but 7900XTX Gpu so be good to compare. Cheers & Yuletide Greetings 😸🤠
Thanks. I couldn't run fpsVR because I was running AMS2 in OpenXR mode. There is spectator mode for PimaxXr but that also reduces the fame performance, so I opted for best visuals from the game screen.
@@HamVR No worries, I cannot run OpenXR in AMS2 because it says OpenCompisite will not run in AMS2. Not sure if perhaps ut is not compatible with my 7900XTX ?
@@HamVR I did a quick run at same res you had at 120hz and my fps was 115 to 120 fps with 15 cars at Imola 88. It chugged at the start a little around 108 to 110 fps. Seems tho this 7900XTX is nipping at the 4090 heels ! I just upgraded from a 3090 on 5900X so this upgrade is ceazy good !
Why is things going so badly for you? With a PICO 4 and Virtual Desktop at a resolution of 3820x3820 @90Hz I always have a perfect 90FPS and I also have everything at maximum in the game. I also have OpenXR active by swapping the OpenVR file in the game so that SteamVR is not active. Does the Pimax software consume so much more power or why does it work so much worse for you?
120Hz is much harder to run and not all effects and physics threads scale linearly. 90Hz can be run on most graphics setting maxed out on the Crystal too.
The Crystal and AMS2 are a killer combo for VR racing. Possibly the best VR sim racing experience you can have atm.
For sure.. I'm getting hooked on 120Hz mode.
why does the game crash as soon as I start upscaling with NIS?
Nice vid Ham
Wow ! Thats freakin' amazing

Oh also shadows on ultra by the way. Looks the best and surprisingly doesn’t have *that* much impact.
Great video ❤ Although damn it I just missed the sale :-( will add to wish list to track for when on sale next.

When i use NIS openxr will crash on launch ? Any ideas ? I also run a 7800x3d and 4090
I also have the same problem, have you solved it?
@@jimidallomo9865 nope I just used fsr at 90% as I was aiming for 72hz only lol

I got the same 7800x3d & 4090 & Crystal combo. Just curious if you put audio in Pitool to "low latency" or "normal" mode?
why does the game crash as soon as I start it if I activate upscaling with NIS?

No need for good latency if you leave the post processes on :)
Do you think a 4080 (with the same 7800X3D) will run at 90 FPS pretty well? On high?
It's should be OK. It depends on things like time of day (night races are harder to render in AMS2) track, car and number of AI opponents too.
