I am a pianist, and my dad's friend said that their son was learning piano and we were happy for them. But then he told us his son was using simply piano.

But have you *tried* the app? You can’t really have a valid opinion on it unless you’ve tried it for yourself. I’ve tried it because I could not afford a piano tutor, and using this app/skoove I am roughly at an intermediate level.

This app is setting unreasonable bar for children. If there are parents sold by these ads, get the app for their children, and the children don't improve as fast as these paid actors, they will be blamed. Not the app.
Quite true. Especially if those are parents who just want to brag but don't bother to parent their kids properly.
Can confirm. I’ve had many parents have this problem of wanting automatic results and not realizing how much work it takes (especially on violin) to get where they want their child to be.
(Coming from a asian kid), yeah, I seen some parents like dat (Asian) at ice skating, tennis, etc. They would probs make that misunderstanding.

I was laughing really hard when he was playing fur elise it's literally in 3/8 and is the opposite of a beginner song if your playing the original piece. Even if it wasn't the original piece someone who has never touched a instrument isn't gonna know the rythm the counts the fingering lol. I'm currently learning the original Fur Elise and it's difficult (the thirty second notes especially) there is no way someone could just bust out even a simplified version. Also been playing piano for 5 or so years and I'm not that good but it's easy for me to tell XD. My opinion these ads aren't even trying anymore lol. Love the vids keep up the content

Abby Ong für Elise was written for Beethoven’s crush that sucked at piano so that she could pretend that she was amazingly good. Then Beethoven discovered that Elise had a fiancé and he wrote a second movement that’s a lot harder. Why does nobody talk about this??

My simply piano experience:
My little sister not knowing better was jealous of the fact that I can play piano and she can't (she's 7 and I'm 16, practising grade 4) so she asked my mum if she could try simplypiano because of all the ads. My mum not knowing or thinking any better signed her up to a trial... Which she completely forgot about 7 days later. She wasted £100+ on an app, no refunds, my sister didn't even use more than once, and I've never been more disappointed in my life. I checked the app and its so... Terrible. Nothing worthwhile for £100+ a year! The subscription is ONLY annual, not monthly or anything, so you can't even properly trial it for a month or so. I hate this company so much!
Well, to be fair, that is not quite right. You can be charged for 3, 6 or 12 months. So it is possible to not pay annually

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. I’m doing grade 8 this year and she wanted to play as good as me so she downloaded this app. After a while she told me about the whole thing and wanted me to judge how she plays. It’s nothing like the commercials, her technique is horrible and she can’t even read sheet music properly and she told me that she’s been playing for a month now but she doesn’t even sounds like day five in the commercials.

@@MD-rp6jd Evidently grades mean different things in different countries - in the UK (where the original commenter is from) it maxes out at grade 8, after which there are diplomas. People would only reach grade 8 in their teenage years at least, and then only if they started young.

I’m a pianist and I tried this app once, and the way the “sheet music” on the screen scrolls is just so annoying and weird. I don’t think you’ll learn to read actual sheet music because the screen scrolls.
I learned reading sheet music and sight reading by not exercising enough xD
I also tried this app and for some reason for a quarter of time the app could not recognize the notes I was playing even though everything was fine.
Alex Xing that what I thought! I also tried out of curiosity and I hated it! It was sooo weird how the music were moving and hurt my eyes looking at at. As a classical musician I didn’t know what triggered me more, the app and all the ads or the fact that they called keyboard piano.

It's literally one of the first pieces everyone learns when you take piano lessons. So it's not really saying much for the kids skill.

Fun fact: Ludwig Van Beethoven created Für Elise for a student he fell in love with, so he made it easy for her to learn. Upon learning she was taken, he made the rest harder so she couldn’t learn it…so they say it’s easy because the first part is easy.

My sister just got a piano and she’s really frustrated because she can’t play as well as the kids in the adds who learned to play songs in just a couple hours. I think SimplyPiano gives kids the impression that piano is easy and does not take as much practice as it really does.

And “real” pianos take up a lot of space, while most keyboards are often smaller and easier to put into storage or to the side and out of the way. Plus keyboards have many different “voices” and effects to mess around with. I love both keyboards and pianos, though, but there are times where I genuinely prefer keyboards. It comes down to preference, really.

You don't just spend money to buy a piano , you also spend hundreds of dollars tuning the piano every year and maintaining the wood and the hammers , and if a string breaks it costs ~800$ (I think?) to buy a new one ..

Not just that, but the freaking hand positions. In every single ad, they're doing these weird things with their hands. Yes, I understand if you can't reach notes cause your hands are smaller, but my gosh.
I always feel like a snob when I see those ads for simply piano and think: “You can’t learn piano with that app!!” But it’s true, you can only learn so much with an app!

As someone that has given it a couple of hours, they tell you where to place your hand, like “C position” or “F position” and just ease you in with which finger to use. Its more a memory exercise than you actually knowing what note it is.
