      Yes!!! Purple colorant and dyes became widespread and widely available only after the industrial revolution due to the advancements in chemistry and the manufacturing textile industries…
      Before that only Emperors, powerful kings and very rich people wore purple which was especially seen as the color of Kings and Monarchs and colors of the likes of Purple, Burgundy and Violet were considered luxurious and a synonym with royalty and nobility…

    I read the myth of Mozart's ability to compose on the fly has more to it. Mozart use to keep a stockpile of musical sketches. Whenever he was commissioned to compose a music, he would take out a sketch, polish, and finish the piece in the style that was popular at the time. It seemed like Mozart had an efficient workflow to complement his innate genius.

    Salieri and Mozart weren't actually personal rivals. The only rivalry they would've had would be a professional one. In fact, Salieri was very supportive of Mozart and visa versa. And Salieri during his time wasn't overlooked, actually Mozart was. Salieri was the greatest musical teacher in Vienna at the time. He taught royalty, he taught composers, including Ludwig Van Beethoven. He also did all of his teachings for free. Mozart on the other hand struggled with finding students because Salieri was just that good and Mozart charged his students.

    • @Timrath
      @Timrath 4 ปีที่แล้ว +929

      And let's not forget that Saliery actually taught Mozart's son.

    • @russellbaston974
      @russellbaston974 4 ปีที่แล้ว +722

      Mozart also lacked tact, to say the least! He would, for instance inform the parents of his pupils opinions such as “ your daughter sweats a lot and has no ear for music” oddly he wasn’t asked to continue with the lessons. Salieri greatly admired Mozart and was extremely supportive of Mozart’s widow
      Constance, he organised benefit concerts for her with the musicians and himself working for nothing.

      Yeah, if I recall the whole "murder theory" was popularized by a play by Pushkin that I think.... Rimsky-Korsokov? made into an Opera. And then Shaffer wrote Amadeus based on Pushkin's play, which won a mass of Tony awards and became a movie.

    Just being a little spoilsport here by clearing up some of the usual misconceptions:
    1. The Salieri rivalry is an invention of the 19th century. In reality they liked and admired each other.
    2. Mozart did not die poor. His income was high enough to pay servants. The problem was that he was not especially good at keeping money. He was a spender, that's why he was constantly in debt. However he always had credit because his career was going very well.
    3. Beethoven was the alcoholic not Mozart. Continous consumption of cheap wine contaminated with lead, caused his liver to fail and lead to his death.

    • @isobellabrett
      @isobellabrett 4 ปีที่แล้ว +85

      Additionally: A lot of the money Mozart owed went on post partem care for Konstanze who had horrible pregnancies. Especially her second daughter who died within hrs of being born caused long lasting health problems. The pregnancy was so difficult Mozart stopped composing.
      The lead was in the face white a cream already used by the Elizabeathans not in the powder. The powder was just cornflower (starch) i.e. the stuff gummies are covered in and cakes/puddings are made of.
      Mozart works were numbered by Köchel after Mozart's death. The K stands for Köchelcerzeichnis i.e. Köchel's register.
      The bum/fart obsession was just the current crude humour of the time. Leck mich am Arsch - evolved from im Arsch - is still the German version of F*** y**

    • @hansmahr8627

      Kind of reminds me of Virginia Woolf's essay 'A room of one's own' where she talks about what female writers and artists need to flourish and how they've been denied those opportunities in the past. She imagines what would have happened if Shakespeare had a sister who was just as talented as him: she would have gotten no education, no chance to show her talent and eventually, she would have been married off to live a miserable life. Mozart's sister is a real-life example. Another one would be Goethe's sister, Cornelia, who was apparently very talented, her brother regularly complimented her writing when they were young. But of course she had to give it up, she married a guy she didn't love and felt trapped. She died when she was only 26.

All the things you are (Ab), Dream a Little Dream of Me (Eb), A Train (C, the all white keys key!), All of Me (C again ;-) ), Crazy (you guessed it!), Sounds of Silence (in C-I was on a roll-forgot a verse, embarrassing), Stray Cat Strut (in G), and the song that sets everyone free: Little Wing (in F). Then I recorded and posted a little segment where I try to define swing blues as specific from rock blues. "Songs have harmonic structure . . . chords don't just plop down out of a pooh cloud sky. Walking bass is walking to definite destinations along the path. There is reason . . . there is purpose . . . open your eyes and sniff the ether of the creative side of performance, or pound down two energy drinks and emphasize the math and science of it . . ."

      Wait... I have a lot of family in medicine (& I’m a nerd) but I’ve never heard of that? What are you referring to? There was an episode of a show where they used maggots or something to remove dead flesh but idek what that was from. (House MD?)

      OneWhoDreamsAwake they use leeches to remove infected blood I believe and maggots to remove dead flesh, not often, but it is still done. I think it’s because maggots know which flesh is dead and which flesh isn’t so are better at targeting it that nurses or doctors? I don’t know, I’m not an expert but I know they’re still used today

    I just realized but Amadeus is an old film, but has actor who can perfectly play harpsichord and talk/act at the same time. I wonder what went wrong with films these days...

    • @ave72
      @ave72 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Actually he was a terrible player. Apparently he was so bad that the actor who played Salieri (quartered next door) remarked only once that his performance was improving. As it was, that was actually his teacher playing.

    • @alphacat619

      @@Stryxxxx he’s faking but he did actually have to learn the piece. I watched the making of where he said basically “during filming I convinced myself I was becoming very good, and then when I would play later I realized.... not so much”
      The most impressive part is when he’s playing upside down during the party scene. He fakes it quite well

    Well coming from Austria I can only say at least now the phase 'leck mich am Arsch' can be used in a variety of situations. Amongst others an expression of surprise. It's not as popular in younger generations but in the older generations of 50+ it seems like the predecessor of the viennese 'oida' which is an expression that can mean literally anything
