  • In this video I'll explain the camber angle on your car, I'll go over how most cars are setup from the factory for safe driving and how you might want to change it for better performance and handling around corners. How you can adjust them and how to use aftermarket parts to make these adjustment.

    Cornering forces also cause the tire tread to deform. Running negative camber allows the tread to deform into a better contact pattern. There is certainly some complex vehicle dynamics in play, but as most people are not engineers this is a fantastic video. Well done

    I found your video tonight on my iPad as it was a suggested watch
    I enjoyed the camber explanations you gave as I did not understand camber prior to watching your video

    I recently installed a front strut tower brace bar to my Camry 2002 2AZ-FE and noticed better handling and reduced backslash on the steering wheel. Since I installed the front strut tower brace when the brace bar and engine are both cold, I wonder if the brace bar will expand after heating up during driving and hence will reduce the negative camber angle at the front wheel.
    Should we re-install the front strut tower brace bar when everything is will warmed up to a steady state, say, 20 to 30 minutes, of driving ?
    The re-installation steps are as easy as loosening the brace bar mounting nuts after being driven for 30 minutes and tightening them back to torque spec again.

    Very well explained. Have you ever changed a ball joint or tie rod end to find out the after market part is not exactly the same size so your steering alignments are off after the replacement? Not a problem with the tie rod ends since the toe is always adjustable. But can can be a problem when you change the ball joint since the camber is not always adjustable.

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes the tie rod is ok but I always match the parts in size before putting them on. If they don't match I get another one.

      @@myRatchets I live in Iceland and we have limited access to spare parts, few parts shops and not all of them carry the parts for the vehicle you are working on. Even the dealerships and distributors don't have parts in stock. So if the car has to be repaired immediately you will have to use the part you have until you can order a proper fitting one.

    When I was a kid, I always wondered on the huge positive camber on empty Tatra 148 trucks. I knew the reason, when the truck is carrying a load, the camber would get closer to neutral, but the large size of the camber was always somewhat surprising to me. It looked like a man walking strange because his shoes were way too small :).

    I definitely want the DIY alignment. I can’t find an alignment guy in my area to adjust my car because I’ve added full adjustment to it that it didn’t have from factory. Gears and Gasoline shows you how to do it at home but they use a lift and a lot of expensive fixtures. I’m curious how a do-it-yourselfer would do it. 😂
