    I wish we had radio was like it was in the late 60s and 70s free form, Real DJ's who didn't have to follow a play list... Everything now is on a loop & ya hear the same shit over and over.

      On Commercial radio, to be sure. Heck, they were on a loop 50 years ago!
      However, there are still free form shows all over the country on community and college radio stations: KFJC, WFMU, KTRU, KZAX-FM, KEXP, KALX, KUSX etc., etc. Take advantage of the internet!

    I grew up in So. Cal. so tried to listen to Dr. Demento's 4-hour live show on KMET every Sunday night through most of my teens. I even would tape some his shows for a while on my reel-to-reel tape recorder. Fun times!

    It's very cool to see this interview, thank you for sharing it. =) It's kind of shame Larry King wasn't nicer to Dr. Demento though. Dr. Demento is an intelligent, creative, and kind man.

    Hard to believe that Dr. Demento is only 8 years younger than Larry King and yet the interview plays as though Larry is admonishing a youngster for his obsession over novelty records and his radio persona. 😂
    Also I love the sound Larry makes here 0:37. The look he gives makes it seem that he can’t believe he has to do an interview with the doctor. It’s hilarious how even in 1985, Larry was the same brash old guy I knew of him as a kid when my dad would watch his talk show many years later.

  • @williampetersen9915
    @williampetersen9915 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    What exactly was Larry's problem? He treats Dr. Demento as though he were a defendant on a witness stand; as if he had to justify his show. Apparently he had no clue who Dr. Demento was or what his show is all about. Totally unprepared for this interview.

    Can you upload the first episode of Larry King Live on CNN from June 3, 1985, featuring a full hour of an interview with New York governor Mario Cuomo as King's first guest? This includes footage of Governor Cuomo's speech at the democratic convention on July 16, 1984. Governor Cuomo discusses the following topics such as the power of television, the vulnerability of being a governor, whether or not he will be running for president, why Lee Iacocca would make a good presidential candidate, the similarities between Christian and political service, the essence of morality, the problem's with President Ronald Reagan's tax reform proposal, the economics of New York and the United States as a whole, the treatment of the middle class, and his concept of tax reform. Then Cuomo takes calls from viewers, which leads him to discuss the following subjects, such as how his concepts differ from those of the New Deal, space weapons, the need for states to help each out, corporate taxes, bank failures, the way in which he offended the National Rife Association, tax deductions, the death penalty, the future of American cities, and how the middle class will be affected by President Reagan's tax plan. Includes Larry King Live intro and going to commercial bumpers, and the closing credits featuring the Larry King Live logo appearing over clips from the interview, the frame zooms out and the text "(c)1985, CABLE NEWS NETWORK, INC ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" appear.👍

    Larry King truly was just a boring adult, wasn’t he? Like, it seems like Dr. D here is very uneasy with the interview, and King comes across as pretty dismissive, like a disapproving parent who doesn’t fully respect their kid’s career choices…
    That’s not to speak ill of the dead either, that’s just what I see from King in this footage.
