    As it is illegal for a driver to be able to see a TV screen whilst driving how can it be legal to have that enormous screen distracting your line of sight from the road

    • @robby8384
      @robby8384 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes totally agree.
      Modern cars are too complicated and have too much tech. You cannot touch your mobile phone, but you can touch a massive screen with lots of information and options that will be just as distracting. Ok when eventually the cars drive themselves but not whilst we are in charge.

      So agree with you, we know how distracted drivers texting and looking at their cell phones has resulted in needless injuries and death, who in their right mind thought this was progress? As a parent of a son who owns a Tesla, that enormous screen is what worries me the most. Because you don't want a kid who had attention deficient disorder and loves computers, to have that in his car.

    As so many of us have dogs, somebody should do a "schnauzer test" when testing cars, test for high sills, dog cage fitment, can the dogs jump in........etc, you get the picture.

      On paper, you would need to rev the GT quite high before you match any decent EV. On average I drive my huge hp car at below max hp and torque, I have to be in the right gear, by the time the fun "zone" comes around, I'm way above speed limit. Thank you but no thank you. I prefer to have something real than something that sounds real.

    For smooth one pedal driving you don't actually drive as described in the video i.e. taking foot off pedal and then reapplying pressure if you need less braking. The technique is to not to lift off the pedal completely like we normally do in a combustion car ... instead you use the same level of sensitivity and gradual movement in releasing pressure on the pedal as you would normally use in application of throttle pressure. The result is that no matter how severe the potential regen you can decelerate either very gradually or more strongly ... in fact you can effectively coast along neither decelerating nor accelerating. It's all in the right foot. It's not massively different to riding a motorcycle that has strong engine braking ... motorcyclists don't just release their hold of the throttle and let it snap back, they role off the power in a controlled manner. That's the technique you want to master. (Otherwise you'll tend to induce seasickness in your passengers!)

    Agree about the range, my minimum figure is based on the fact that a couple of years ago my step daughter shattered her ankle and we faced a regular 240mile round trip to see the specialist, journeys were uncomfortable for her so we didn’t hang round and were usually on way back within 40 min of arriving, there’s still no fast chargers or Tesla supercharger near the hospital so any ev would have had to have a reliable 250 mile range in winter weather, probably 270 for peace of mind,
    Unusual circumstances yes but many times we’ve done long journeys and on a 400 mile journey, we’d normally stop once

      When skiing in Banff one winter the temperatures were exceptionally frigid. Every single public parking place had a battery charger attached, as without it your car would absolutely not start the next morning. Looks like at some point, that type of on street availability (hitch it up next to the parking meter & add extra $$ for cost to charge) might be an answer. Not sure of the aesthetics of it however.

    I don't really understand this current fad of massive touch screens in cars. I find them quite annoying and would happily take less features with physical buttons over touch screens. Also, what about older people? My folks are thinking about buying a new car, but dad is almost 78 years old and is simply not capable (or willing) of learning his way around touch screen controls anymore. It's a shame, as an EV would suit them otherwise absolutely perfectly.

    I must confess I too liked the Mustang but Ford peeved me off when firstly they upped the price at launch some £3000 and then another £5000 before coming to the conclusion that they really ought to see cars first!
    This was then followed by the charging fires which did nothing to enhance Ford Hybrids to me and nor there answer to what the owners were supposed to do when instead of using the chargers Ford offered £500 towards fuel costs!

    As for the Mustang branding, like many I well remember going to see Bullitt in the late 60s which gave Ford the greatest iconic image ever for everyone from the nouveau riche to the blue collar petrol head. I'm sure as EVs become the accepted norm Ford will unleash the electric successor that Frank Bullitt would be more than happy to drive. I think that Ford, by using the name, are positioning themselves to be the provider of EVs that appeal to petrol heads.

    nice review, Ford is just following what other brands have been doing, notably Mini and Fiat 500, also Ionic has just become a brand rather than a model. Ford did the same with Puma of course. Whether they picked the right model to turn into a brand, we'll have to see. Most disappointed to hear about the ride, thought that was a ford strong point...and other EV's seem to have it more sorted so not unachievable. This sector is evolving and maturing so fast that it is almost impossible to know when to jump in.

    Regarding car screens... I'm not 100% sure the state of the world, but I do know when the Tesla Model S came out, there were questions about why NOBODY else had a screen nearly that size. The answer was that nobody made an automotive grade screen that size. Teslas were using screens that weren't rated for automotive use (heat/cold cycles, vibrations, anti-glare, etc) and just kind of getting away with it because of the wow factor. Now, I don't know what kind of failure rates they've had, etc, but no major automaker would do that (or have the goodwill that Tesla has to get away with it).
    Fast forward to today and your comments about the screen. Are you comparing this to the Tesla Y, or other vehicles with a similar sized screen. Because it wouldn't surprise me if nobody makes an automotive grade screen that size in the resolution that the Tesla has (assuming they're still using consumer grade screens)

    Nice to see Petrols more and more try to (maybe) come over to the light side of the Force :-) Not bad, not bad the Mustang. But the Nr 1 is still Tesla. It is not the car, there are many good now. It needs to be understood by the Petrols it is the package. It's the Supercharger network and the GPS software, simple as that this makes or breaks it for me. Maybe VW with the Ionity network becomes a serious alternative. And don't tell me I'm a fanboy I'm too old for this kind of labelling. Eventually, you'll find your EV package......

    Doesn't bother me at all that it's called Mustang. I far prefer the design over the Tesla. Far prefer the instrument cluster in front of the driver than the Tesla minimalist approach. In fact I've ordered one --- and mine will be a RWD ER Infinite Blue. Due in May.

    I am fine with 90% of it and its a practical price/range option for a high mileage company car driver, but the ride and the £10K hike for a bit bigger battery are deal breakers sadly. Both of which Ford could fix.

  • @93455Driver
    @93455Driver 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Prefer Untamed to Unbridled mode which they use in the US. Not a Teslaphile, but I admit the size of the Mach E battery does show the efficiency of the Tesla cars. Not sure of the cause, motor, inverters, aero, all of the above etc., but that Model 3 LR gets a lot from a 75 kW battery. The Hyundai Kona is also good, but FWD and there big weight differences between the base and top end trims.

    Hi Petrol Ped - another really excellent review, and great to focus on the driving dynamics and handling, especially in the different modes. Your main issue seemed to be with the ride quality/suspension on our wonderful B-roads! 😂

    For a Mustang I’d expect a bit more aggressive styling to be honest. I’m guessing it’s toned down for the UK and European market. I’m not a fan of a screen that looks like a tablet’s been stuck on either. Tesla have got it right by making it flush with the dash. And as you say the ride quality isn’t great so I reckon Tesla are safe for a while.

  • @KCnLex
    @KCnLex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The super large screen is a safety hazard, actually most of them all regardless of size because drivers fool with their navigation, satellite radio, etc, etc and are not paying attention to driving are a danger to themselves and others. There really should be expert studies conducted measuring eye movement and length of time a driver is looking at a screen instead of the road. It is particularly alarming for beginning drivers. My background may make me particularly alarmed, but look at fatal accident photos while the bodies are still in or around the car and just think, he/she/they wouldn't be in pieces or part of the car had they been attentive only to driving. Perhaps make them operable only at a stop, if you can't remove them entirely. Sorry this is a major concern for me.

    Very good review. Shame about the suspension as, at the price, you would expect better. Still, it's Ford's first EV attempt so maybe this will improve over time. I have added the car to my list but it's up against some stiff competition this year from Kia, Hyundai, Skoda and Audi. Interested to see what the Audi Q4 is like - look forward to a review of that one.

  • @anonymouspdg6121

    Nice review and similar feedback on the seats and ride quality to another review I have watched.
    It seems they have taken the USA & Mustang influence and adopted the bench seat style used in many American cars. However we in Europe don't like it and prefer a more bolstered approach lol.
    Only having it a day, I bet you didn't get to see how charging was as in the other review, they had a demo car that had pre production software which throttled back the charging speeds at 40% charge or over. Apparently they have updated this and it now charges faster & doesn't throttle so much.
    It's surprising that both reviews mention the bouncy ride as Ford are normally pretty good at sorting ride and suspension. Maybe it's the extra weight that is the issue. I do agree though that this is the closest we have to a mainstream Tesla competitor and I would consider one if the charging network is developed to be closer to Tesla's supercharger network.
    I have just visited our local McArthur Glenn outlet for a walk and coffee and noticed 9 Tesla supercharger stalls have been installed, compared to the 6 non Tesla stalls which I bet don't charge anywhere near as fast as the Tesla's.

    This should be something I'd like, but I just can't get find any enthusiasm for it. It feels like it's a generation behind. Bearing in mind Hyundai and Kia are bringing out the Ioniq 5 and EV6 with 800v charging (10-80% in 18 mins) this year, I think the Mustang is too little too late. The Korean's look better too IMHO. If I was looking to get an SUV type EV, I think I'd wait a couple of months for one of them.

The range for my head is, will this car get me from Nottingham to Cornwall and yes according to the figures without having to charge. Infrastructure, however, is also a major concern. So instead of a door handle everyone grabs different bits of the paint to leave mucky paw marks everywhere.
