Slip in shower tried to grab curtain (arm outstretched came down on edge of small tub) resulted in 4 broken ribs healed 4 months later next, frozen shoulder 18 months, next, opposite frozen shoulder 15th months. Shoulder (trapeze & shoulder blade area pain) 10 years later and many many drugs & specialists ( final orthopaedic surgeon ) referred to a physiatrist diagnosed with central sensitisation syndrome (CSS). Disgraceful diagnosis ends up after YEARS of trying to get to the bottom of the burning pain etc this looks like what has been going on, thank you

I had Cervical disc surgery on my c6 and c7 24 months ago. Immediately after the surgery I had scapula winging. I saw two physical therapists who just strung me along with useless exercises and workouts that did not help in the least. I really don’t have any pain it’s just bad winging and really bad weakness. I have decided I am going to see a neurologist and see what type of nerve damage I have and what course I need to take forward. I will gladly get surgery if it can be fixed. I also want to see if I have a lawsuit because this has traumatized my golf career and ability to do strength training. Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Im 28, have since years pain in my spine between the shoulder blades that radiates in the the front of my chest, primarily where the chestbone is. I also have pain around my collarbone that goes down in my chest, and have more and more shallow breath due to more tension/pain. (also pain under the ribs and a very tense esophagus from where the pain in my spine radiates until my mouth) Also I don't have a big stress tolerance, since I'm kinda under that constant pressure or pain every time already, and so stressful situations and food that supports inflammation are really draining. I thought for a long time that I am in a stressloop which creates tenseness in my body which stresses me again (pingpong), but since I meditate a lot and am aware of my body I start to consider that something else is going on. May it be that I have issues at two points of my spine, since I have pain in my neck/collarbone until down between my shoulderblades? The main lain radiates from the spine between my shoulderblades (gets numb sometimes), but basically my whole upper body is thense all the time
    I appreciate every advice!

i have issues with my left side exspecially with the serratus antrior neck and directly under the armpit. My biggest issue with it is not the pain it obstructs my breathing and makes me short breathing i went to so many orthopedic practices nooen could help. i cant rly sleep that well cuz everytime i aly down it feels like my passive breathing stops and i have to actively breath. Could it be from this nerve impingement?

    Hi Doc.
I have this condition due 10+ years of working in childcare and holding children in my left arm/on my hip.
This caused tightess and muscular imbalances in the majority of the left shoulder region (inferior serratus anterior function, but stronger posterior deltoid and upper trapezius)
The nerve sometimes still gets aggravated and I don't have the best overhead stability in this arm, however rehab is gradually helping.
I have been doing rehabilitation exercises for the last 1. 5 years and things have gotten a lot more mobile, better function, more equal strength, however I'd love to hear what exercises you suggest as an all round cervical, thoracic and serratus work out.
    Many regards

your video was spot on for my condition. I have long thoracic nerve entrapment in both my shoulders since a very very long time. maybe this happened gradually as I slept on my belly since birth. so I didn't even realize that I have a problem. I always used my upper trapezius muscles to lift my hands up and thought it is normal. now my shoulders wing a lot and this puts immense pressure on my glenohumeral joint. they give up very quickly while doing normal household activities. I desperately want to know if there is still a chance to restore my long thoracic nerve activity if I started working on it, or is the surgery the only option left for me. please please suggest me something.

@@drdozellodc You are a life savior doctor. forever indebted to you. when you talked about upper cross syndrome and its vicious effects such as neck pain, thoracic spine pain, weak shoulder muscles in the posterior segment, tightening of levator scapulae, you summed up my whole life in just a few seconds. I thought I only had forward neck posture but now it's clear that I have upper cross syndrome and also scapular diskinesis with the excessive medial winging on both sides. I'll list my issues so that I can explain clearly.
      1. upper cross syndrome and its vicious effects.
      2. scapular diskinesis and weakness in the posterior muscles.
      3. weakness in AC joints, couldn't hold my phone upstraight for long, my elbows always look for something to lean onto. and thereby messing up the posture.
      4. levator scapulae and upper trapezius muscle tightness, couldn't bend my neck to the side, there's constant pain at the base of my neck.
sadly there aren't any good chiropractors in this part of the world. so please suggest me where I should start my work on these issues. And lastly one question, If I managed to recover from these issues, will my long thoracic nerve start functioning? please suggest me doctor.

It was painful during the first couple weeks especially at nigh when sleeping but now I don’t feel any pain however I still can’t lift my arm all the way up/sideways and I’m still weaker on that side. I was wondering if I could go back to working out again (lifting weights) or would that possibly harm the nerve even further?

Hi doctor, I have been diognose by my local physio with long thoracic nerve compression through heavy weight lifting. My scapular isn’t winged and I’m having no issues apart from pain when stretching my abdomen. They only inconsistency I can find in my research is that I can visibly see and feel my long thoracic nerve under the skin when stretching my arms above me heard, it’s a very strange thing to look at but I can look at the nerve running from almost my armpit down 3/4 of the way to my hip. Is this normal in an injury like this? Physio suspects its visible because my serratus anterior isn’t activated but I have no lack of strength in push or lack of flexibility outside of above head movements?

    • @drdozellodc
      @drdozellodc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Taylor. Great question, sorry I don't have a definite answer for. It is not normal but is definitely possible. If I were you I would focus on strengthening the scapular retractor muscles (Rhomboid major, rhomboid minor, middle trap and lower trap). I would perform isometric scapular retraction to build strength and endurance. Here is a link to an instructional video I made. th-cam.com/video/PiIqZ5KwP60/w-d-xo.html

Very good question. If I were you I would retract my scapula on both sides during each set. This is accomplished my performing an isometric contraction with the rhomboid major, rhomboid minor, middle traps and lower traps. I would also make sure my middle back and neck were in proper position. This position will help to stabilize the shoulders. Hi Kumar. Excellent question. Thanks for the details. It is impossible to give you a proper diagnosis over the internet. With the details you provided it sounds like you might have an entrapment of the left Spinal Accessory Nerve. The Spinal Accessory Nerve innervates the trapezius muscle. Symptoms of a Spinal Accessory Nerve entrapment include: Trap muscle weakness & atrophy and winging of the upper inner border of the scapula that is increased with raising the shoulder out to the side. I recommend you see a Doctor of Chiropractic to get proper evaluation & treatment.

About 2 years i was doing a back work out and i think i curved my to much as i brought the weight down and thats when i felt the first pinch and ever since then i been having sciatic like sytums .. been in a walker the last year. Chiropractors tell me that thoracic spine control upper motor function not lower... Could this be true

The spinal nerves that branch off the spinal cord in the lumbar and sacral areas transmit signal to and from the lower extremities. Here is a video that may provide you useful information. Two Minutes of Anatomy: Spinal Nerves th-cam.com/video/crRFSYcDDUw/w-d-xo.html
If I were you, I would request an MRI of the Thoracic Spine (Midback) and an MRI of the Lumbar Spine (Low Back).

Great question that is very difficult for me to answer. If I were you I would use the rehab exercises I was taught as a foundation for my gym exercises & training routine,
