About the movie:
12 Strong (also known as 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of the Horse Soldiers) is a 2018 American action war drama film directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and written by Ted Tally and Peter Craig. The film is based on Doug Stanton's non-fiction book Horse Soldiers, which tells the story of U.S. Army Special Forces sent to Afghanistan immediately after the September 11 attacks. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, Navid Negahban, Trevante Rhodes, Geoff Stults, Thad Luckinbill, William Fichtner, and Rob Riggle. Principal photography began in January 2017 in New Mexico. The film was released in the United States on January 19, 2018 by Warner Bros. Pictures, in standard and IMAX theaters. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the cast and action but criticized the by-the-numbers execution and lack of hindsight of the War in Afghanistan.

In my first firefight I had no idea who I was shooting at. My section commander very cleverly said "just shoot, they dont know you havnt seen them". I was blinded by adrenaline...
That is exactly how I imagine combat would really be. I get that way when giving a school presentation.

I never understood why, in movies, "the bad guys" always seems to want to shoot the feet of "the good guys".
I'm not speaking of hollywood but if you ever operated a machine or learn machine gun tactics hitting the dirt allows you to see your aim. Also in a search type fire you start in front then lead up to the target

For a better understanding of these American soldiers, check out "Legion of Brothers". It's not an action flick but it's the actual soldiers telling it how it was. Pretty amazing how it happened. As a side note, several of the main characters went on to start their own distillery, making a pretty good bourbon whiskey called 'Horse Soldier'. It's not bad.

I think people out of the military care more about it being realistic than people who were in the military. Was in 11b infantry from 1994-1999, I just like it cause it looks cool.
Of course they have the DSHK technical to deal with, the sound of it firing is truly unmistakable.

No trained sniper ever aims at the head at 650 yds. 100% Incapacitation shots are usually done within 100 meters.
Good sniper can get headshots at 300m with 99 percent success. 100 meter headshots are easy even with an AK and iron sights, shooting from prone with the target not moving.
Not if your sniper rifle's cartridge is above 12.7mm

@@kalapuikko666 You can do it at 300m it doesn't matter. I can make headshots with an m4 at 300m as well. The way snipers are trained, they always aim center mass. You have a larger target when aiming center mass as oppose to the head. Especially if it's a moving target. you get the same result with 7.62x51 ,.300 win mag, or .338 Lapua mag.
Rob G not to mention the kinetic energy from a round traveling that far will increase the damage output. Long range headshots are either luck or pure Hollywood.

For a surround system test there is a scene where they are writing letter in their tents and one hemsworth rolls up a letter and chucks it, in a good home theatre you should hear it land on the right behind you , a subtle sound which can reveal how good a system you have

The most realistic part of this was the grenade scene. Accurate timing. I hated in movies when they threw grenades, and like 10-15 seconds, go by. The worst is when they pick up the grenade after it was thrown and put the pin back in.
The impenetrability of walls to bullets in these houses is astonishing.

When i was kid i was fascinated watching action movies with scenes of shooting like this, but now it makes me luff, it doesn’t work like that at all, I’m a veteran and I know that for sure.
I’m not a vet (thank you for serving!) however, I am a firearms guy. I shoot a M4 as much as I can. Watching this, he wasn’t looking down his sights! Since I started shooting, movies have lost their luster. I could never understand why people loved the show 24. It was utter garbage, hitting people on the run 100 or so yards away, with a pistol! He never missed!
