Truck Stops should all charge for parking. The parking is for customers. Truck drivers fuel one place, cook food in their truck, buy groceries at Walmart, but yet want free showers and parking. If you are a customer, you have points to pay for a spot. Truck drivers used to pull in to the truck stop fuel up, get repairs done, eat dinner at the counter, shower, watch television in the lounge, use the pay phones, buy their cigarettes, sleep…. Then in the morning they bought breakfast, bought a sack lunch and thermos of coffee. Now? They fuel one place, cook in the truck, watch tv in the truck…. Yet complain about the prices in the store and the fact the restaurants are gone? WE KILLED THE TRUCK STOPS. We, the truck drivers.
I reserve a spot 1-2 times per week. I have never had a Pilot or Flying J not go out and run off whomever is parked in the spot they shouldn’t be in. TA/Petro, I’ve heard horror stories about not getting the spot. If you are paying for the parking with the points, then the company IS paying for the parking. That Bordontown Petro in New Jersey doesn’t actually charge for parking. If you spend $25 in the store, shop, or fuel, the receipt will get you in.
I’ve had numerous Pilots refuse to make people move from paid spots after reserving one. I’ll reserve a spot if I know I am getting to an area late. Usually after 9 or 10:00. New Haven, IN in particular told me they don’t make people move after 10pm. It’s kind of understandable but also, why have paid spots if you’re not going to honor the reservation.
I just don't get that...ya pay for a service which they won't make good on? Maybe that's why I see so many trucks parked in reserve spots with no receipt in the window. Why pay if it's a crap service I reckon.
@@thisotrlife7400 The receipt not being in the window doesn’t mean they didn’t pay. As I said, I’ve never had Pilot/Flying J not find my Reserved Parking place. Not once.
Well I guess we could argue as to why this came about but for me.....I'm not going to pay for a service if the provider of said service will not guarantee me what I PAID for. I think the mega chains were just as or perhaps more responsible for killing the mom and pops as rhe drivers themselves. If given a choice, I'll take the quiet smaller stops with a decent restaurant over the loves/pilots that typically only offer what I consider junk food. But these are very few and far between.

Interesting perspective, thanks.

That's good on the pilots then, tks for the feedback.

Have you happened to read the "warning" on cigarette packs lately? Or in the past 20 years?
Why yes, yes I have. Thank you for being concerned.
