    You didn't show the difference in algea blooming, you should change the title to building a bog filter.

    Did you use aquablox on the bottom or just gravel on top of the plumbing?

    • @gtrsquared919
      @gtrsquared919  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just gravel. I have tones of volume as the water comes from the pond. The gravel also gives more surface area for beneficial bacteria.

    Loved watching how you constructed your bog filter. I built a 64ltr bog filter about six months ago, I used 15mm pebbles and 35mm pebbles. It started well cleared the water in no time but after 2 weeks it clogged up due to the smaller pebbles. So I emptied it again and just used the 35mm pebbles and worked so beautiful, but now after six months it started to clog again, I rinsed the muck through the bottom drain without removing the plants and pebbles. Is it normal that I have to rinse the muck every so often or did I do something wrong? I used 40mm pvc pipes for intake and out and 25mm on the bottom for the drain just in case I need to drain it out which worked well for me to rinse the pebbles.

    • @gtrsquared919
      @gtrsquared919  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it is common to have some muck buildup over time. You may not have enough flow through the filter. If the water is passing through the filter too slowly any muck or sediment is not kept in suspension and will accumulate in the filter. I would try increasing the flow rate through the bog filter and see if that helps with the issue. Thanks for watching. Let us know if this works for you.

    Great build! How did you do the vertical corners of the plastic liner? Did you glue them, just fold them, or something else?

    • @gtrsquared919

    • @gtrsquared919

      Haven't had to so far, but I am planning on flushing it down this year when I winterize the pond.

  • @richardhefty
    @richardhefty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did a similar thing in a bathtub for the duck pond. I regretted putting so much gravel in when it came time to strip it down to clean out the gunk. Maybe your other filters remove more solid matter than mine managed to so you might not need to. This year I have the plants in pots with less gravel, so cleaning should be easier next year. Yours is better looking than mine, I plan to surround the tub with logs but haven't got that far yet.

    • @gtrsquared919
      @gtrsquared919  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Part of the thought of having the 2 inch pipes feeding the filter is that it can be back flushed. Fill it up and open up the valve to purge any sediment or muck out of the filter. It still has to make it through the weeping holes, but the volume of water draining should help to get any sediment into suspension to flush out.

  • @KewlQT
    @KewlQT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's all so beautiful and well built. It's just a shame you didn't put as much thought and naturalized work done to the return water going back into the pond. The two bare white PCV pipes were a stark after thought coming out of a finely built wooden structure. I'd like to see a concrete brook-like return on one side and perhaps a water wheel type return on the other side. Like the old water wheels on brooks/rivers that created power to grind grain. Maybe you could add a second phase to it where you make the water wheel generate electricity to light some LED pond lights that would be visible at night. You two are so talented I believe you could make it even more spectacular. But an excellent video that illustrates to the viewer which tools to make a professional bog structure..

    Possibly I missed something with the time-lapse but wouldn't the weeping holes in that manifold mean that cementing the other joints of that assembly was unnecessary?

    🧐how does a bog filter fight the algae? Also, how will you stop mosquitos?

    • @gtrsquared919
      @gtrsquared919  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Algae grows on the nutrients in the water. The bog filter uses plants to use up the nutrients before they build up to the point where the algae will thrive. The water in the filter is always moving and is covered with gravel so mosquitoes are not an issue.
