    Three years and a month after the concert --- and it still didn't loose a single bit of its fascination. Hopefully, I'll have the chance to play this magnificient instrument one day...and if that happens, I'll promise to try my very best to do justice to the finale improvisation. Keeping my fingers crossed! :-)

    The passage starting at 1:37:05 is just marvellous until the very end. Both majestic AND plucking on heartstrings... I was so stunned that I even continued to watch until all the (well earned) applause was gone. I guess if I would have been able to play this, I couldn't have done it without crying heavily. (And I can pretty much feel what Mr. Cassan must have felt during these last measures.) --- BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!!

      The best part of this excellent improvisation, it was a fantastic concert!

      Meanwhile I figured out how the modulation scheme works and how to play that part... Not with all the full ear candy, of course, but fair enough to get the impression of it. After trying it on a couple of organs (well, sample sets, actually), the Metz C-C (or any other C-C, most probably) turned out to be the most predestined instrument(s) for that piece/improvisation. Thanks again to Mr. Cassan for that wonderful inspiration!

      Could you explain the modulation scheme please ? I was deeply touched when i heard this finale during the live concert.

      @WoodymC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, I must have missed that response -- I'm sorry.
      The scheme is about major and minor thirds: First mod of the theme is down from G-maj to Eb-maj, others involve A-maj to C-maj progressions.

      P.S.: This impro is still a thrilling experience. I love to stop by occasionally, that's why I noticed your comment. ;)

    1:37:00 onward is very reminiscent of Dupre’s Cortège et Litanie in certain spots

    2nd anniversary --- and I'm still impressed of this concert and, in particular, the finale improvisation.
    I can't tell exactly how many of the current 18k views are associated with my account, but I'd expect it's quite a few dozens...

    Another Sunday passes me by where wish I was in Paris listening to the organ of St Sulpice. That said, it is cracking flags here in the cathedral city of Ripon UK.! Booked in Paris for next February so hope there is a good recital on as usual!!

    The Durufle Toccata is known as the "Scarbo" of the organ. It may or may not be as difficult as "Scarbo," but it is definitely as difficult as "Islamey," and nearly as difficult as the Liapounov "Lezhinka," written in imitation of "Islamey" and sharing the same tonality of B minor and time signature of 12/8 as the Toccata. Durufle obviously knew the latter piece. Do any organ teachers today tell their students to practice the Liapounov before tackling the Durufle? I make these observations on the basis of my own experience.

    Too many of the guest organists seem to be overly impressed with the organ's power and pile on rank and rank of stops and runs of notes until they all pile up on other in sonic mud. Cassan brings out more expressive sonorities through tasteful restraint. Bravo!

    After 2 days visiting France and enjoying 4 incredible concerts on the Cavaillé Coll organs of St. Omer, St.Ouen and Bonsecours. This concert will be a perfect end for this weekend filled with Vierne and Franck. Thanks for the live feed! I still hope to visit the Saint Sulpice sometimes soon... until then.. please keep posting these concerts! :)
