The way I see it, there's 3 different eras for Rainbow:
1.) The classic international counter-terrorist era (John Clark-Ding Chavez)
2.) The modern international counter-terrorist era (Aurelia Arnot)
3.) Avengers/Justice League anime but with guns (Harry.)

At first when I bought the game I was like oh cool concept now it feels like im watching a anime

@@holdguard4624 They do, but not on land operations like what we get in r6. The maps are exclusively on land, spare Yacht (that is still surrounded by ice thick enough to run on, but in reality, most counter terrorism units would be dropped on the top of the yacht rather than the ice on the side).

However I do enjoy the updated bios giving the ops more personality and relationship
Well it mentions that she wanted to be in the air force at one point, but she couldn't pilot because of her being an albino. Even so, that cuts her interest in military really thin, since it's implied that it's a means to an end of going to space.

@@StruggleGaming well if I was head of rainbow and I saw an individual who went to military school but had no real experience, I wouldn't put them in any special operations unit that's for sure. However, if I saw that individual create an astounding piece of technology that can absolutely be useful in operations, I would recruit said individual... I just wouldn't give them a gun and put them on frontlines in any breach and clear situation... more like a back operator that scouts ahead and confuses the enemy at the same time.

Lore-wise I actually dislike how they renamed T-Hunt as “training grounds” or whatnot. Wasn’t T-Hunt the *real* operations while the multiplayer was the training simulation?
Meh, it's scuffed both ways, imo. It makes no sense to say the multiplayer is training for terrorist hunt, because the White Masks don't act like Rainbow and don't use really any of the same tactics or gadgets (they reinforce, used nitro cells and barbed wire, but there are no Mute jammers or ADS's). And it makes no sense to call terrorist hunt "training", since hunt is a fundamentally different mode to versus. At most, hunt helps you maybe aim quicker?
it makes it clearer for new players. it might even suggest that they plan to rework that gamemode. lore wise its shit.

@@0lionheart Realistically it makes very little sense. Rainbow (presumably, never read the books pls no kil) operates in permissive environments (and GR in non-permissive, SHD in post-apocalyptic, 4E in clandestine, deniable type stuff, just a little theory thing there). Think suburban LA, not Fallujah. Defending against terrorists would be an almost completely impossible situation to occur (unless of course there's a civil war or something which turns it into non-permissive).
However, one of the cinematics in the game mentions that Rainbow was activated for a completely new threat, where the terrorists (presumably) has tech equivalent to Rainbow. Looking at everything I think this fucked narrative/lore is a result of them trying to scavenge elements from Patriots (what Siege was going to be but they scrubbed it).
Anyway, as objectively as I can, I will say Siege is kind of a well made game (albeit lacking in bug fixing, attention to detail I've come to expect from AAA titles, and even performance) , but it feels like its more of the developers' game than the players' at this point.
Just got approved to join team rainbow, and it's all thanks to my ability to fry bacon shirtless without getting burned!

I miss that time. Ubi added insult to injury by graciously unlocking for me, for free, a randomly selected operator one month after I'd started playing the game.
They got me Clash, so now I cannot simply avoid playing her by letting the random pick pick for me.

I hate how they will probably never add Israeli ops since it'd trigger some arab players/people who think they're woke cause they feel the need to mention how much they hate Israel at any chance possible.
Also it always bothered me how Ash's bio says she was in Shaldag, which is a unit that doesn't accept women.

I totally agree with you! And as much as I wish Siege would remain true to its core (as I did with the fast franchise) it’s impossible when trying to maintain and grow a player base or even a demographic. Racing cars and cops vs robbers gets boring after a while, and to keep people entertained you have to keep one upping it and adding more crazy edge of your seat content. The problem with that is after awhile it gets TOO crazy and that’s where both Siege and Fast are right now. Hell even Fortnite could be used as an example it went from a simple BR game to mechs and volcanos and boats and shit. Either you die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain.

Really this happens with any series that consistently sets the bar higher with every new tid bit they introduce. Also reminds me of the Payday series as well.

Read the book and could not find a lot of similarities to the game.
Jonas Seorum the only similarity’s are some maps are like locations in the book(Bank, Chalet, stadium etc) and they have a character nicknamed Doc.
Siege isn't inspired by the book. The original Rainbow Six was made along side the book
*book. There's only one book, unless they wrote some new R6 books I didnt know about. The only thing Siege has in common with the book is the name.

I'd be pissed if Sledge, Castle, or IQ was a introduced as new DLC operators. Or if Kali and Kaid were vanilla ops instead of Bandit and Glaz (not saying they are better but their gadgets just seem more unrefined). They are solid but boring in terms of "new" content.

Idk man, the world seems to be getting screwed up again, over the course of multiple arcs. Is there an underlying story we're missing? Perhaps we will receive some form of "Health 2: The Healthening" to put it back into place.
Idk man, I think the health arc was a good idea on paper trying to give better character development to the operators, but it ended up turning itself into a shitshow. I think my biggest gripes were with how they handled the bios, and Six. The bios were as you said, actual government files and I liked that feeling. It was when Vigil and Dokkaebi were added when they lost me on that. Even if the story is good like Lion's, it shouldn't read like a Deviant Art character bio.
After that, it was the swapping out of Six. Old Six was perfect. She was staunch, professional, but obviously had a care and passion for Team Rainbow and their mission. Suddenly replacing her with a skinny hipster guy who doesn't keep knives in his house because his wife doesn't like it? He's the one leading an international counter-terror unit?
Despite this I like where the newly updated bios are going. They still have the general overview, a general psych evaluation, and then an in-depth analysis by Harry, where he can explore their personal struggles, relationships and concerns. In my head I see him less as Six and more of Rainbow's personal counselor, he's their shrink.
I've accepted R6 Siege isn't the realistic somewhat arcadey shooter it started out as, but I don't think it has to completely throw away that old tone either.

@@exoblade7620 Ehh, Nokk is ok, but her's read like a bad SCP page. Where the writer thinks that they're creating mystery by making even the most mundane thing like WEIGHT redacted. It's just lazy.
I think they had to swap Six because they couldnt afford to get good actors consistently to record a few lines every couple months, but yeah i think anyone but harry would’ve been a better fit.

and for nighthaven hary also said that he brought them on because he didnt want anyone else hiring them. so the common theme seems "we have to recruit them before someone else does". (even though most militaries dont add ex-pmcs to their ranks because the fact that they work for money means their loyalties can be compromised)

Nighthaven makes sense because PMCs actually do a lot of pirate hunting today and have been involved in much counter-terrorism. The problem is that real PMCs are just corporate goons, not government operatives that stand for something. The real PMCs in the world have committed many war crimes and are too controversial to be included in Siege. The bio for Nighthaven somewhat references this when it's said the Harry reached out to them largely because he didn't want anyone else to use their "services".
Oryx makes sense as a representation of freedom fighters in the Middle East who actually help UN peacekeepers fight against terrorist cells. Today, many of these freedom cells actually make up the "boots on the ground" infantry against cells like ISIS. We send them to fight for us and support them with artillery/drone strikes while keeping our own forces as much out of the fray as possible. Make sense that Oryx's skill is just "being strong and doing the leg work" it's exactly what factions like Kurds actually do.
Iana is just made up shit meant to appease people who don't like the fact that Oryx is brown. It's like they came up with the whitest character possible to make up for how many "ethnic" characters they have been adding up until now.
It should have stuck to the manga tbh, everything fell off in the Outbreak Arc for me

I think it's great that someone else appreciates Maverick's story as much as I do.
He's the perfect of example of semi realism I'm talking about on what Siege operators should be in the level of grounded and believability.
I think his character is based off of the Army Green Beret mission in Afghanistan where they were the first one's in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. The mission was classified for a decade but it was recently released saying that they used horses with a local Afghani militia to travel and even used them in battle.
The problem with “lore” in Siege (and similarly, Overwatch) is that none of it matters when all the “good guys” do is fight each other. So the game is what? One big never-ending training exercise? The “lore” is so divorced from the fundamental gameplay as to render it irrelevant.
The online matches supposedly take place in simulations (VR or some shit) to train the operators for the terrorist hunt missions. Hopefully this helps you understand what the fuck is going on in this game

Here you're running into the wall that exists between the marketing reason the game exists, and the reasons the game invents for existing, within the game.
Siege was multiplayer-only to glom onto the hero-shooter genre, simple as that. I like the concept. But this should have been the multiplayer concept backing a solid single-player too. Ubisoft didn't want to build one, and here we are.
@@Xenomrph I mean, the CGI trailer the Hammer and Scalpel show that aspect of training and the point of the training is that to use whatever others see or look down on (in that case Dokkaebi looking down on Thatcher being angry all the time when he was dealing with his brother back home) and use it productively (Thatcher taking out his anger who wronged his brother). Yeah, this leaves most of them at each other's throats, but there is progress in setting their differences aside (Dokkaebi saving Thatcher from Caveira in a training session). No matter the Olympics part might be ridiculous, the interviews after the match with the operators kind of shed light who is getting along and who isn't.

It's his mains just don't see the "escort" ping on their HUD. Not because he intentionally wants to kill innocent people.
Lions uniform is similar to what we have worn in Biosafety Labs. Minus the over suit but he does have taped wrists probably two gloves under it along with more than one layer of clothing and lastly a fully covered respirating mask that shields eyes, nose and mouth from airborne pathogens. Thats actually pretty normal for bio safety soldier uniforms.

But the same game has Wrecking Ball, a stupid, ugly character that makes no sense. There will never be a smart hamster, because you can't physically fit or feed enough brains in a hamster to make it smart.

I think people forget that like... Rainbow 6 is a outfit that needs alot of different slots Filled. This ranges from the actual strike team to maintenance to HR to Psych reviews to Tech development. From what I can tell in their bios, Alot of them don't actually go into the field as you much as you think they would.
Pulse and Ash go into the field. Seems pretty obvious.
but Castle doesn't really go into the field. He's one of rainbow six's Shrink.
Doc is pretty straight forward what his role is.
Amaru is for when they capture artwork, artifacts from terrorist cells trying to sell them.
Jager and his band are the Helicopter flight crew. Could they breach and clear? Yes. Do they? Probably not. They are too busy flying around as a mobile transport.
Echo, Dokka, Mute, Mira, Twitch, Thermite etc are on the Research and Development team.
Valkyrie, Ela and etc gather intelligence on an variety of targets.
Based upon the latest research of contact lenses, Yana's gadget is just somewhat futuristic but it's getting there. Google and DARPA has gotten pretty close to it in the rough design. Including auto-correcting what Gregor pointed out as weaknesses in being albino. Her drones/hologram activation are similar to a presentation from the early 2010's for coordination of flying drones. And the holograms are just expanding upon Alibi's existing one.
However that doesn't mean just because the operators don't go into the field often you want to invade the headquarters while Ash and her strike team are away. You'll still get mowed down.
This is... very detailed and I like it, honestly very understandable. What I'm getting is that from a lore standpoint they dont all do the gunplay, it's only a side gig for operators, with their main job being a certain quirk like tech which makes sense in my opinion.

To give even more lore accuracy to the collab game, Tachanka, 180 cm spetznaz operative was classified as "standard" under physical strength, when back on earth he'd be outstanding.
Because to be considered "outstanding" in physical strength requires that you can create earthquakes with your fist (look up the charcater bio of Mountain).
Explosives and bullets in arknights literally require an expensive rock as fuel and the ability to use magic, because gun powder and dynamite don't exist in arknights. This later stumps the weapons engineers in arknights when Tachanka tells them the way to make Shumikha ammo, which requires nitrocellulose to be incendiary.

IMO, I think as time went on the gadgets got a little... out there. Eventually someone asks: How the hell do holograms work? Or NANOMACHINES (looking at you Finka). Honestly, I really like Oryx because he’s a step back. A more basic operator. As such he can be written more realistically. Besides Finka, Iana, Alibi, and any other op with a futuristic gadget, the worst offenders are probably Nighthaven. I mean, why the fuck does Harry employ MERCENARIES when he has access to the literal best of the best in global CTUs.
Then you got that whole “Siege Olympics” thing. R6S was supposed to be a secretive organization. Then Harry threw that in the garbage, lit it on fire, then pissed on the fire.
The Teletrap I think iana is to sci fi but albi’s gadget is just a mini projector and finial puts the nanomachines into her teams blood before the operation starts but Iana is made up
Finka is somewhat understandable, unlike Iana and Alibi, also Vigil and Lesion
DeadWinD lesion is just a poison needle on the ground. The camouflage is similar to what we’re trying to make with octopus skin. Vigil is literally just a jammer strapped to his back.
The Teletrap Finka’s nanomachines I think helped with her condition, looking back at Year 3 I already saw Echo say Alibi’s Prismas aren’t holograms they were described as something else, and Iana’s gadget is actually a hologram of herself.
There are already options of bots, that are designed to run through your veins, find cancer cell and do a micro explosion, that kills the cancer. Problem is, that it is so expensive, that no one can afford enough of those to cure them. So for me finka is pretty believable gadget, just give it few years and a lots of money.

Ignoring the fact that, whiles it’s not the same, Spetsnaz has killed civilians in many cases (which they proceeded to turn into a character trait of fuze and then a meme), BOPE has been referred as a “death squad” for their penchant for extrajudicial executions, etc. Its not UBI is shy about controversial subjects and they’ve already legitimized Israel by Ash existing. It would be one thing (not a necessarily better thing) if they just stayed away from that conflict entirely but the inclusion of Ash as a half hearted attempt to play to both sides just feels like a tease.

I used to have a problem with siege being a bit to "sci-fi'y" when the gadgets started getting really wack.
For example the first new operators released used an underbarrel shotgun and bear trap. Then a rifle shield and throwable cameras, etc.
Then ubisoft made a turn towards more "tech" gadgets that I think are plausible but are just weird. Then they went back to more mechanical style only once with Maverick. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I still enjoy the game and the gameplay though regardless

I was really excited when then they announced a Mexican operator, but when I saw his design it really pissed me off, it didn't look anything close to an actual FES, plus the weapons that they gave him are was so stupid, I was really hoping to see the FX-05 in action but no fuckin no. My favorite ops from the style perspective are Lesion (very realistic, there's a action figure of a SDU which looks a lot like him), Lion, Mozzie and Ace. Each with a unique characterization and personality, without being a generic special forces op, like people on Reddit want in the game, like another Blackbeard (in appearance).

Also while all character models are same height in game, Ying is the shortest operator at 5'3" and only weighs 115 lb. That is so far off minimum requirements for any military.

About operators like Iana still being in the front lines and on the ground: we know that matchmaking is just VR training so my headcanon is that operators like Iana, Amaru, even Finka, Warden, Kaid etc. is that they're just training for the situation if they ever need to be. Operators like Iana are clearly (at least to me) more likely to be intelligence operators rather than the people going in and "getting their hands dirty".
Yeah, I feel like that’s most like the case, a good example of that in my opinion, would be Mira, she probably spends most of her time in R&D but she trains in case she is ever needed in the field.

I like this explanation a lot. It makes perfect sense. We should get someone at Ubi to make this canon because I was really starting to have trouble with why some of these people would be in active missions.
Mint Sergal Another good example is outbreak where we can see that Jägers first job is actually the pilot, than engineer and only after that a „normal“ gunner. Or Thermite who is coordinating even in game and in outbreak and only goes in because of his knowledge about explosives and not because he is the best gunner for the job.

Because its the only "campaign" Siege has ever had. The new zombie game that they are working on, IMO, needs to be canceled and Ubisoft should work on a co-op campaign with a story that returns RB6 back to its roots. Same characters from Siege, improved gameplay (actual tactical/realistic gameplay), returning characters from past RB6 games, Counter Terrorism, etc.

@Timick 7 Now imagine that with a more realistic story. A 5 player co-op (or more), doing real counter terrorism ops all over the world. Chasing down the terrorist from that one mission withall the orange gas. Every character gets the spot light in cutscenes. Old characters from past RB6 games are brought back. The character customization from RB6 Vegas is brought back but with all RB6 Siege characters. That would be amazing. A return to its "Tom Clancy" roots but still keeping it new.
@Timick 7 Yes dude, Ready or Not is looking like such a sick game. We really don't have anything like that in gaming right now. IMO thats sad. We don't have MGS, Splinter Cell, Swat, Ghost Recon, Socom, RB6. Those games were truelly original, ground breaking at the time and now... we've got nothing like those games. Not even remasters. Indie developers are the only once's who care, and are trying to get those types of games back out there. But still...
finally someone speaks on this subject. i really wished it stuck to the idea that they were real counter terrorists while keeping some liberty to make the game fun.
The whole story i fantastic except for this whole secret agency thing theyve got going on with wamai and kali, im just not vibing with it. I really like the tournaments and all that, and i think they could eventually merge it back into the hereford terrorist type story at some point.
I just think a counter-terrorist task force would never team up with a PMC, which are always evil

Things make sense for the most part, and their persona is not some random genius given a gun, but a military personel gone genius. Fuck sometimes not even genius, just simply common sense, doing a simple thing others overlook. I could feasibly imagine most if not all of these being announced and used even tomorrow, in real life (save for those which area already being used, obviously).
Lately that stopped. And Ubi brings in all kinds of wacky sci-fi, pushing that line even further. Constantly trying to one-up the last one.

Yeah, and the cardiac device is the only thing R6: Siege kept from the original Rainbow Six, both the book and the game. And SpecOps units do have some really old guys both in staff planning and ops. The new operators are just Overwatch and Apex Legends rip-offs.
That thing about vigil is what gets me. They are lacking details in that. When they first teased the White noise operators I thought Vigil would be a hacker like dokkaebi then I saw the background and wondered the details of what it worked like because I know that given current advancements in "AI" field it takes some considerable time to "erase image from the CCTV cams". Just confused.

Absolutely agree and this has been a big gripe of mine for a while. Although I'll just point out, in reference to Thatcher's age, that there was a Napoleonic infantryman that was still fighting in his 60s I believe, and there are over 100 active British soldiers today who are over 50.
The main reason I got into Siege was the fact that it's variability. Games like COD and Battlefield in the FPS genre tend to rely solely on gun skill, whereas Siege introduces skills such as map knowledge and support, without the glossy anime feel of say an Overwatch. It's realistic, while also lending itself to different styles of play. With the lore involved, I feel that it's crucial to back it with intuitive backstory, without getting too far away from its original intention. Creative liberty can be beneficial to an extent, and I hope that the further expansion of the game doesn't turn it on its head. One of the best non-gameplay Siege videos I have seen on TH-cam. Keep up the good work Gregor.

@@Xackory A good solo queue-er can certainly make it to gold (on xbox, on pc its more like silver) by themselves relying solely on their gun skill. To get anywhere above either A: you need to use MnK (( again, for xbox) aka cheat) or B: squad up and get good at callouts and general communication.
Yes, not having gun skill would be prohibitive, but the higher you go in rank the more emphasis is put on good coms. Unless you using MnK. Which most plats or higher do on xbox anyways.
Siege is almost ebtirely now run and gun hero shooter woth map knowledge being the cherry on top. Bwsically more robust cs go. They should make a vanilla siege for tac shooters and this siege for the esports tumors that still play it.
