  • In this video, I compare the new 2023 Honda HRV vs the previous 2022 Honda HRV. This new generation brings on a brand new exterior, brand new interior, along with a new powertrain and more. Check out this 2023 Honda HR-V Sport and decide if it's the right sub-compact SUV for you.

I wish they called the 2023 model the Civic Crossover instead of the HR-V. The 2019 to 2022 HR-V had more personality, more utility, better MPGs, and with the same usable storage space. I like the old one better, but I'm biased due to being the owner of a 2021 HR-V EX AWD and having never driven a 2023 model.

I had a 1st gen Fit which was the HRV sibling. Perfect size. Great utility. Great handling. I mean that was our family car with 2 kids. Fit them along with strollers, luggage and all their things with no problem. HRV was the same. Now it's an anonymous blob with no character, to big without any additional utility

2023 Hr-V is a big step down. The previous generation is way better.

Excellent review as always George! Unfortunately, even though the new 2023 HR-V has 17 more horsepower, it's also at least 100 pounds heavier because it's a bigger vehicle. So it will still be slow & sluggish, especially when loaded down with people and cargo.

    • @limitedreach4446
      @limitedreach4446 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’ll be around 9 secs to 60 so still a bit faster than the old one and adequate. The 2.0L engine is more responsive all together, however, yes, when it’s loaded up with people it’ll be a bit sluggish getting up to speed.

@@limitedreach4446 TheTopher got almost 13 seconds in his zero to 60 test of the 2023 HR-V. Redline Reviews got over 11 seconds. It'll be even slower when loaded up with people and cargo.

We have leased 5 Honda HR-Vs (one was a sport) Really love the design, and blue colors. The new 2023-2024 design I like for different reasons, but the old design was my favorite of any car I've had. That said, I love Honda service and some of the new features (engine and handling) of the new HR-V. Also, we have had 6CR-Vs and one Polite. So this loyal consumer is staying with Honda. Again, I can't say enough how sales and service has treated us. They are the best!!

I think the exterior of the old one looks better than the new one, except for the LED lights front and rear. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that the new design is ugly, but it’s a step back from the previous generation.

The interior of the old gen is insane. Sitting in the back behind myself my legs barely touch the front seats and I'm 6"4😅

Love my pre-2023 HR-V (2019), but the sluggish driving and cramped backseat are big drawbacks. Want to check out the new one, but not sure the improvements (or the loss of the magic seats!) are worth it. Might make more sense to just upgrade to something else entirely: CR-V, or a different crossover. I do really like the look of the new one better. However, I actually prefer the older interior! Compared to the new one, seems more minimalist.

I read the new HR-V loses about 2 MPG, not sure if it's city, highway or both, as a result of going to a 2.0 Vs a turbocharged engine.

My 2017 is a work horse. I’m not driving for speed in Los Angeles. 😂 The variable cargo configurations is what’s important to me for lugging things around on decent mpg. Old model all the way. You’ll have to pry my magic seats away from me.

The 2023 hr v is heavier and larger (that's why it has a larger engine with more horsepower) ....yet it is just as slow and less fuel efficient than the outgoing model. The 2022 has just as much headroom and cargo area , but 3" more rear legroom despite being shorter in length, lower in height and not as wide as the 2023.
The 2022 ( lx model) has a cd player, manual dials for climate control, and magic seats. When you consider these things, and the fact that the 2023 costs a few thousand dollars more, why would someone looking for a practical, economy vehicle want the newer model ?

Just goes to show you can’t blindly trust the specs. The rear seat legroom in the old HRV was 39.3 inches, while the new one is 37.7 inches. So, going by specs, the HRV lost 1.6 inches in rear legroom. But when you look at the video, it seems clear that the new one actually has MORE rear legroom.
Maybe Honda changed how they measured rear legroom. I don’t know.
But I do know this is common with specs. Horsepower, legroom, cargo space, turning radius, I’ve found weird inconsistencies in all of these across various cars. The specs say one thing and real world says something completely different.
Moral of the story: Test it yourself. Don’t just trust the specs.
