My first week with my little golden doodle started off terrible. He kept me and my husband up ALL night. Literally all night. I was searching for anything to make this stop. I’m a nurse and my husband works full time/grad school. She helped me SO much. I kept her videos on all day while I was “working with him” and he is literally almost potty trained. He knows what to do, and if he makes an accident it’s always in the same spot and it’s OUR fault that he doesn’t get outside. He goes to the door. He is almost potty trained. Also sorta likes his crate. I’ve had him just a week. Like thank god!!!
Oh Rachel, I'm a first time puppy parent, my son & I both got siblings, boy & girl, I had visions of bows, bling collar, tutu, tiny paw shoes, bubble bathes, taking Bella with me everywhere, until I watched your videos, her brother Bernie nips, bites, jumps, I'm so overwhelmed!!!
Oh my goodness, I feel your pain. We adopted 2 sister sibling Cockapoo’s. We’ve had them 1 month and have just NOW seen a little progress with them. We crate them separately. There is already sibling rivalry, so watch for that. Even if they aren’t litter mates, that may happen. Good luck with your 2 new puppies. 💜💙
Even if I redirect my puppy from biting at my jeans he takes the toy keeps it aside and then continues biting and eventually even growling What can I do?
Continually let your puppy know you don't like and won't accept it. With verbal or body language queues. They aren't stupid and don't need to be programmed with bribery so they are staring at you like an open refrigerator 24 hours a day.
Rachel, what if this does not work? We have an Ausiedoodle (9 and a half weeks) and he nips and bites EVERYTHING. Our clothes, our hands, our furniture, our carpet. We have tried the Re-direction method; however, he is not motivated by Toys. We re-direct with a toy, a Nylabone, food, and he just continues the behavior. We have tried the OW! method and this makes him more hyperactive. We have tried the walk away method, and he bites our bum and back of our clothes as we walk away. We try and play with a toy, but just proceeds to lunge and try and bite us. WHAT DO WE DO!!??
I feel ya there lol. I have had my puppy for 10 days and the biting has gotten crazy!!! Can't touch her or play with her or go near her without her trying to bite everyone's arms, calves, ankles, feet, toes.. I've had the puppy blues because of it lol . But everyone says it gets better 😂
This was very helpful and useful information. I have an 8 week old golden doodle and she absolutely loves my toes and ankles...it is so annoying and gosh it hurts. I will definitely implement these tips!
I was recently (one week ago today) gifted with a little puppy.. this first week has been BUSY to say the least. I’ve read books for years (I have wonderfully behaved ‘grand dogs’).. and one of the books has been especially helpful. But finding this channel and watching Rachel not just training, but EXPLAINING everything, including the why this, and the why that of all the poor behavior. For instance, I’ve learned raising my voice hinders the training of biting. And this puppy is determined! She seems to know what it means when I say ‘no bite’ or constantly sway her with one of her toys..it’s only been a week, so I have hope. 😂 Today, we pretty much conquered sitting on demand..it shows her that jumping at me will not get her a place on my lap, but sitting first and calming down, will. We both have quite a ways to go, but I see promise. Thank you Rachel for all the good information.
I discover you , in my search to help a first dog owner , she got a pug of 7 months a bit bitting . im a dog sitter , and pet sitter , baed in Manchester ( UK) thankk youuu , i did subscribe to your channel ,Mihaela.
I got my Cockapoo puppy back in November and he has been such a handful. I have a crate for him as well as a puppy pen. His biting and nipping is still a bit concerning. I redirect him almost every time. He has all kinds of toys that I can use for redirection. One of the big things is he will just randomly snap to bite at our faces so I have told everyone do not put your face down towards him but that is difficult when we have to pick him up. My poor husband has already had his lip bit several times. We have and still do redirection. We also put him in the pen for calm down time when we see he is way up there. I spend time working with him on exercises like he knows sit, stay, down, shake, roll over, go find, and leave it as well as take it and come. Right now recall is only working if I am rewarding him with treats. I have one of them snuffle mats and we do the go find with it almost daily. He does love to learn just the random snapping at faces is one big one that I just haven't gotten him to stop. I have tried so much. Then the next problem is when I have to put him into the pen for him to calm down it's like he knows it every time. Basically he has figured out what behaviors lead him to having to go to the pen so the next thing he does is run and run and run. No recall, no treats, nothing seems to work. Right now my downstairs is very open so baby gates won't work but I am moving to my first house in a week and boy oh boy am I going to have up baby gates. Hoping that helps with that. The last problem is he is extremely attached to me. It is great he loves me so much. I am a stay at home Mom so I am here all the time. I do everything with him so he is very use to me being here so when I go to go upstairs he throws a complete fit and he isn't so thrilled when I have to leave to go to the store with my husband or anything. He just has a complete melt down. I have practiced leaving the room and not coming back in until he is calmed down because I don't want to reinforce the behavior. You can give him any toy or treat and he just isn't having it so I am really unsure of how to help with that without making it worse. My husband works a lot so I am naturally just here but I don't want him feeling all stressed out when he can't be in a room with me or if I have to leave. Any advice would be great.
I just want to say that this way of training works on general, there are situations where they are so much harder or stronger and in those cases, it's more severe
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos. I hate to admit this but I got my first dog in college and had no idea what I was getting into. Thankfully she turned out amazing because she’s a crazy smart husky. 8 years later my husband and I knew we were ready for another puppy and I spent weeks studying these videos and we picked up our sweet 8 week old goldendoodle puppy last week and EVERYTHING you teach has worked for us!! I’m so happy I feel like I am making up for my past mistakes and teaching our new puppy from the very beginning 💚. He has had only 1 accident in 5 days, is getting better at naps in crate and sleeps soundly in the kennel between us taking him out every 3 (now he goes 4 hours!) he can even sit and is getting way better about not chewing on furniture etc just in this small amount of time using this method. Thank you so much for spending your time teaching!
Also another important thing I found is to ask them to do something before giving them the toy as you redirect like sit or something because I found my puppy just started biting my pants when he wanted to play. He still kinda does but he’s getting a little better😂
I tried this didn’t work after 2 days. Although I don’t do food for training purposes. I stopped my puppy from biting in about 10 minutes the 1st day and just a quick reminder first time in mornings.
Please help. My roommate has an older dog who is anxious and not social at all. I just got a puppy and after my roommate tried introducing them too soon (their older dog growled and nipped at my puppy, did not bite him) my puppy then started getting aggressive growling and biting more. I’m not sure if his aggression is due to that encounter. What can I do to make sure my puppy feels safe while we are rooming with the dog that has not been taught any manners? And yes, I’ve tried training the older dog but the owner is not very cooperative or on board with being intentional to continue to train them. I have baby gates to keep them separate at least and supervise my puppy at all times.
Makes sense. It works, and when it doesn’t I say No calmly and walk away and try it all over again. He just wants to chew and be praised when he gets it right. Thank you!
Rachel!! I’m getting a labradoodle in a month and i’m binge watching your videos because he’s my first ever puppy!! It’s overwhelming but you make it seem easy 😍💜
I got my Aussiedoodle puppy a week ago. So far so good, but she nips at me...hence why I am watching this. How is she 11 months from the time you wrote the comment?
@@veroniquecloutier7794 she is soooo much better, never bites anymore. It took about 2 months of training her not to but eventually she stopped. She also stopped chewing on things she's not supposed to so I think this video really helped
That is awesome! Our Maddie is already great with my husband but takes advantage of me because I am too nice lol! Glad to know it will all pass. I am thinking of also doing training classes with her to speed things along.
Thank you for this video. I would love to know more about how much time we should be leaving our puppy alone for in their crate or playpen throughout the day so they don't develop a dependence on you. A video on routines for the first few weeks from when you get up in the morning to late at night that you find works best.
Hi, my name is Barbara. I have a shelter, dog and mini schnauzer who is living with me after his owner died, and to keep from going to the pound I plan on adopting him, but I have a question they say he has heartworm and he is on massive amounts of drugs, chemicals to be honest. He just finished his 30 day. Of antibiotics, and every month he gets to heartworm preventative, medication’s nex gard, and heart guard . And he is still now to start three injections supposedly to kill the adult Heartworms. Help I am not familiar with Heartworms and alternative treatments for them when a pet is infected I don’t feel comfortable giving him all these chemicals. And I’ve fallen in love with him. His name is Charlie. I’ve been watching your videos so I’ve learned a lot. I’m just questioning what I should do so I am writing you this text if you can share any. natural ways or products that you use on your pets to keep mosquitoes off of them, as well as are there any homeopathic/natural non-traditional ways to treat an animal with heartworm. Also, I question what does an atom with heartworm act like look like how can I really tell if he has heartworm? Is there a blood test? The main society has not provided me with any proof, but they’re treating him and told me he had heartworm. Please respond back as soon as possible. We are due any day now to start the injections and I’m very nervous about them. I recently lost my dachshund of 18 years and it was the hardest thing I had ever been through. I don’t know what he had but whatever it was, it was awful. I wondered if it was cushions and ask my vet she was a horrible vet. Anyway, I didn’t want anymore, but then Charlie came into my life and I wanna make his life pleasant and enjoyable and not subject him to all the things. I did my other dog thinking I was going to help him. If you have any suggestions, please send them back to me. Thank you.
I rescued a puppy at 10 weeks old; she's now 6 months. She is very smart, sweet and usually obedient. Today, I was shoveling snow and she has never seen a snow shovel so as I was shoveling, she was barking and charging at the shovel as I pushed it. After a while, she randomly bit my calf. I yelled at her & immediately removed her behind a gate where she can see me. She knew she was in trouble. I think she reacted impulsively and was maybe over excited? When I brought her inside, I put her in her play pen cage with her toys. She knew she was in trouble; she immediately layed down, didn't cry or bark to get out like she usually does. What should I have done differently to teach her not to bite again? Is there anything I can do now-after the fact? I'm upset with her, she left a mark w/2 punctures. What should I do proactively to prevent it from happening again? How can I train her never to bite, even when playing?
Thanks you do you have any tips on dog to dog aggression territory because I was dog sitting 2 days ago and the dog came to my home but Benji was aggressive showed his teeth and barked I think it is because someone came to his territory
I just got a puppy. He came with his official vaccine form listing what first round of vaccines he already got. There are low-income/c-snip sort of places that do vaccines and spay/neuter for cheaper. They often list the cost on their website. I also called my vet and just asked their prices. I agree that a video with all sorts of health info would be super useful!
My dachshund is 11 weeks old and he morphed from giving kisses into a little alligator snapper,, he’s not aggressive at all he just loves to play and he’s using my fingers as a pacifier but his needle pins go right through my skin. I tried playing with him while holding a favorite toy and he loves chasing after his ball but just like a little human toddler he gets carried away and then it’s hard for him to calm down and he’s all wiggles with teeth. I get redirecting with giving him a new toy etc but isn’t that also training him that when he gets nippy he gets a new toy?
I have a 2 month old goldendoddle and I try to redirect when he goes after.. let say, the puppy pad and I try to call out for him and he doesn't even pay attention to me. When he goes after my pants and I get him off' he's so continuesly jumps and tries to nip. I put him in a play and he jumps out. I do have a crate that I'm going to start using. But I'm really getting worried about him going after my babies.
great work Rachel. Is there some kind of chart that we could look at to see what is a realistic behavior expected out of each age ??Such as a guide for the age in months by month that they go through ?
It s really difficult to give specific dates and habits because it depends on the dog and the amount of training. As long as the puppy is progressing, you re doing the right thing. Remember to be patient and keep on learning
I have a 4 month old puppy who loves to bite legs & won’t let go. How do I go about that? Because it’s hard to walk away or redirect once he’s latched on.

Gosh I hope I saw this sooner! I just got my shih-poo puppy last week and he’s my first ever puppy. I watched vids but I still keep on spoiling him and that includes me enduring his bites and nips but I think he’s going way too far bc my hands/arms are literally so red from all of it. I’m troubled and will definitely try this tomorrow!^^
I have a 3 and a 1/2 month old bassetttown female that's it hound female puppy who is very smart but is not the least bit obedient... I've been working with her based on some of your suggestions and the nipping and biting has not really changed. I feel like I'm at a little bit of a loss as to what to do. Thank you again for all of your help and your guidance and suggestions. I know bassets are very very stubborn but I also know they're very smart and She is, she just is not at ALL interested in cooperating with my agenda. Thanks 😊 Kathie

I GOT A MALTESE FOR XMAS, HE WASN'T HUMANIZED. IN OTHER WORDS THEY DIDN'T HOLD THEM OR DO ANYTHING FOR THEM. THE FIRST WAY A PUPPY LEARNS TO PLAY WITH SIBLINGS IS BITING. SLOWLY BUT, SURELY HE IS GETTING THE IDEA. HE HAS A LOT OF TOYS. I AM ALSO POTTY TRAINING HIM. I FOUND HE LIKED IT WHEN I SAY TO HIM,"WHO'S MY GOOD BOY"? IN A DIFFERENT TONE, SO HE WAGS HIS TAIL AND LETS ME PET AND GIVE HIM LOVE. HE LEARNED IN A COUPLE OF DAYS TO SIT AND LAY. THEY LOVE TO LEARN. I STILL GOT AT FIRST A LOT OF BITES ON MY ARMS. I NOW HAVE HIM WHERE HE WILL PEE ON THE PAPER PAD AND SOMETIMES POOP. I PLAY WITH THE TOYS WITH HIM AND NOW HE ALSO STANDS UP. I TELL HIM WHEN HE COMES TO BITE TO SIT, OR I WILL SAY LAY DOWN. I WAS GIVEN HIM AT 2 AND A HALF MONTHS. I HAD A DOG THAT HAD BABIES AND THE PUPS WENT OUT WITH THE MOTHER, I NEVER HAD TO TRAIN THEM.
10wk cavoodle here. I put her in the pen and have been doing redirection….BUT wondered if you can tell me what to do when I put her in the pen, as she wants to get out and back over to me. She is great in the crate overnight (with potty breaks), but she will howl and cry etc intermittently in the pen. Help, I have been able to leave her in the crate for 1-2 hrs when I have appointments, but I am so stressed when I am home and I can’t get her to like being in either a crate or pen when I am in the house. If I could get her to be quiet (neighbours here) I would not feel so stressed.
Oh my gosh, you answered so many questions!! My husband sent me this,we have been having a little trouble with our Cane Corso playing to rough. 13 weeks old so his teeth are a little to sharp for the kid's.
Love your videos, Rachael!! Learned so much about my two 2& 3 month old labradoodles. I do hope you can help with advise on how to teach two puppies to play ”nice” as it often it gets into a “rough” play, with crying and puppy aggression. Thank you much!
I would say stop all play and no more attention and even time out to calm everyone down when the puppy gets to bitey and hyper. Act like it's a child and put it into timeout or stop the activities when they start doing things you dislike.

Literally having the EXACT same experience with our new golden mini doodle! 😩😩😩 the biting an nipping! Thanks for this! 😂 we are NOT alone!
A!aq♧`,
Any advice on potty training please ?
No, never reward for this
Oh Rachel, I'm a first time puppy parent, my son & I both got siblings, boy & girl, I had visions of bows, bling collar, tutu, tiny paw shoes, bubble bathes, taking Bella with me everywhere, until I watched your videos, her brother Bernie nips, bites, jumps, I'm so overwhelmed!!!
Even if I redirect my puppy from biting at my jeans he takes the toy keeps it aside and then continues biting and eventually even growling
What can I do?
Continually let your puppy know you don't like and won't accept it. With verbal or body language queues. They aren't stupid and don't need to be programmed with bribery so they are staring at you like an open refrigerator 24 hours a day.
Yess same. Chew toys are a no no cuz he immediately goes for the feet
I found having a box of severed fingers and toes close to hand works best to redirect their attention
I really needed this. Just got a puppy and he's chewing on me and everything else a lot.
Your videos are so helpful omg! So thorough
Subscribed; can't wait to get my dog. I've planned on getting it for years and finally in a few months I'll be ready. Thanks for the tips!
This was very helpful and useful information. I have an 8 week old golden doodle and she absolutely loves my toes and ankles...it is so annoying and gosh it hurts. I will definitely implement these tips!
Can't believe how big Wally got!! Great advice!!
I love how the pup in th background jumped up when you said Yes! 😆
I discover you , in my search to help a first dog owner , she got a pug of 7 months a bit bitting .
im a dog sitter , and pet sitter , baed in Manchester ( UK) thankk youuu ,
i did subscribe to your channel ,Mihaela.
I love that wen you said YES you’re dog you immediately looked at you and looked around
When my puppy starts biting my sister she starts yelling at my puppy saying, NO, NO BITE. I could hear her from the other room 😂
This is such great advice. Thank you.
Thank you, Rachel.
This was a very good video but can I know at what age this will work for a puppy?
The helped so much! My 6 month old Australian shepherd mix was so crazy about aggressive biting and this helped sooooo much! THANK YOU
So good! 🙏
YES YES YES!!! Very good reminder ❤️❤️❤️
Your videos are top notch
What do you do when they bite/nip/scratch when you are petting them?
Awww So cute! He knows this is his box.
You are so good lady. I am learning a lot from you. Thank you!
Makes sense. It works, and when it doesn’t I say No calmly and walk away and try it all over again. He just wants to chew and be praised when he gets it right. Thank you!
Very good segment, thank you! I've been doing all of this, and it's starting to improve! I like the 180 turnaround idea, will definitely try that too!
Rachel!! I’m getting a labradoodle in a month and i’m binge watching your videos because he’s my first ever puppy!! It’s overwhelming but you make it seem easy 😍💜
Good luck! I’m getting a Yorkie in 2 weeks! 😬he’s my first dog to.
Oh I am so happy for you!!! Keep me posted. You’re gonna do amazing!!
)
Im getting a labradoodle in a few weeks too!
Njagde vettilum pedichu labradoodle ne but he is biting everyone 😢
I got my gorgeous aussiedoodle pup about a week ago and she has been a doll (for the most part) because of your videos! Thank you so much!
Fantastic, thanks
That’s a stellar idea!
I agree that would be very helpful.
I have a puppy bull terrier and he is so stubborn… thank you for this!
Awww this is much needed video thank you!
Thank you.
How big a bag of treats and proper treats avail for everytime you need them?
Rachel you are so helpful & interesting that I often forget to click the 'Like'...sorry.
This WORKED!!
This woman knows a lot.
Thanks you do you have any tips on dog to dog aggression territory because I was dog sitting 2 days ago and the dog came to my home but Benji was aggressive showed his teeth and barked I think it is because someone came to his territory
Could you do a video on all things Health. How expensive vaccines are, what vaccines to get, and everything in between.
Thanks
I just ordered my Barkbox, will get it for 6 months, hopefully, it'll be fun for my labradoodle.
Keep me posted on how it goes!
Any videos on how to help train a puppymill rescue?? Help
@@CaraCreations1000 me 2 :)
It s really difficult to give specific dates and habits because it depends on the dog and the amount of training. As long as the puppy is progressing, you re doing the right thing. Remember to be patient and keep on learning
I got the super chewer box for a while for my 70 lb American Bully but they kept putting in soft toys & the bobber she tore up in no time.
I have a 4 month old puppy who loves to bite legs & won’t let go. How do I go about that? Because it’s hard to walk away or redirect once he’s latched on.
Did you figure it out? If so, any advice? My puppy is 4 months old.
YES and your dog responded instantly
you know so much about puppies! thank you for doing this
That will definitely help a lot.. I recently got a puppy n your videos re working like magic.. Do I'm trying this... Do u ship to Africa?
I love your videos!! I learn so much.
I do have a question and hope u reply….
My puppy is 14 weeks but when I got her she pees a little when you come up to her. I don’t like that. I want her to trust me and I don’t know why she does that?!?!
Please help me!!!!
When she said YES he got so confused 😂😂😂
thank you for posting this❤️ i was having trouble with my pup but dogg.today helped... it gave me so much more control! my dog loves it.
Same! I have my 14 weeks female basset and shes smart but stubborn. She bites and it hurts 🤣
So glad I found your videos! I need help ! Our 5 month old puppy is sooo very stubborn with biting . He only bites me and so very much I have had a infection in my leg from all the biting . I am the one who takes care of him and we have had trainers and I redirect it and have to put him in the kennel . Still no relief ! Any suggestions??
Were you able to solve this issue? I’m going through this now with my puppy and I need help
Rachel thank you so much, I have been home with my puppy for 3 days and your advice has been invaluable. I will gladly by anything you recommend on your links :) Thank you so much
This is so helpful! I got a pup yesterday and he bites like crazy haha!!♡♡
just got a new puppy today! my hands have so many scratches on them from her biting them. I wasn't sure how to get her to stop, I hope that this stops them biting me!
Absolutely fantastic information!!
Oh yes this is very common! Here this will help: th-cam.com/video/Sj3Mxt6RLsE/w-d-xo.html
Yup that’s exactly what I do
I use a divider and put them in two sections.
Ty for the information and suggestions!!
All the brand new toys are lying on the floor and the puppy is chewing the box they came in! 😂😂😂
Hi Rachel I prescribed you are cool!! I rescued a mama dog. She ended up having seven puppies. Im going crazy, how do I stop them from eating their poop? lol thank you
