Glad I saw this. I was going back and forth between the 5700 and the elite. Good information once again John. Looks like I’ll pony up a bit more for the elite. Thank you.

The one deficiency of the Kestral app, as compared to the Applied Ballistics app, is the lack of custom drag models. While G7 BC is often derived from computer simulation by the bullet manufacturers, AB has performed actual BC measurements on most common bullets. These potentially much more accurate bullet ballistics are a very inexpensive (couple dollars per bullet) upgrade for the AB app. If the Kestral app offered these “CDM” in addition to the regular BC’s, it would make that app even better!

If I'm not mistaken the 5700Elite is the only Kestrel that allows for custom drag and BC models.

@@FClassJohn The Kestrel 5700 Elite and 5700x both have the AB custom drag & BC, that's what differentiates them from the 5700 and previous (Sportsman) models with Ballistics. Whatever app you feed from the Elite or X will have the AB data

@@2whl4re ok cool, thank you. I didn't realize the X model did it too.

Good grief, serious tech overload making the shooting sports overly complicated.
