    A couple other tips I could add is try underfilling your reel, maybe even to only 1/2 to 3/4 spool. Much less backlashes. Or try this one, make a normal cast to a distance a bit farther than you ever would need to skip and put a piece of electrical tape across your spool on your line. Reel back in and skip away. You can now only backsplash as deep as the tape on the spool. Or alternatively, just get a MH to heavy action shorter spinning rod. lol!

      haha, I do keep a spinning rod on deck for that purpose lol - I'm lazy but I will tie a lure on just to skip under the docks lol

  • @RaymondSampson-c3w

    just like @joelee240, here is another beginner tip.....from the beginning, I use a Zebco 404 push button style lure and a wacky rig setup to learn the roll cast aspect and get better with distance and accuracy. I don't see how it is possible to backlash on this. The pistol grip and pushbutton simulate the hold on a baitcast setup for the cast. Transitioning to a properly set BC reel is easier just introduce the spool control that you are already familiar with from casting other than skipping.

    A tube skips really well too, you won’t destroy as much plastic as using a jig and much cheaper if you end up losing it in pratice. Weightless soft plastic works well with light line!

    My tip for anyone learning to skip with a baitcast reel is to determine the distance you are skipping then pull another 10 feet of line off your reel. Put a piece of tape over your spool that will limit your backlash to the length of line above the piece of tape. This also is good for people learning how to use a baitcaster.

    Sir, could you please do a comparison of skipping jigs with a curado DC vs a standard baitcaster. This type comparison has not been done and it has never been addressed on you tube. Due to two totally different braking systems, people are confused about the ability of a DC reel to skip as good as a traditional baitcaster brake system.

    I have tried skipping but always wind up so ticked off over birds nests I quit..lol. I'm right handed , but one year I had a cast on my right arm so I learned to cast with my left and reel with my right. Nothing is going to keep me from fishing. I used to never fish a jig because it was so heavy and always got it hung up. So I took nothing but jigs one day and made myself fish jigs. Guess I'm going to bite the bullet and skip now too. Thanks for the tips.

    • @ReelSouthernOutdoors
      @ReelSouthernOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Flourocarbon has memory braid does not witch I'm sure you know, some flouro's have more memory or are stiffer than others so try this trick it helps me. Start with a quality flourocarbon that is more castable , before spooling it on your reel put it in a bowl of hot water as hot as you can get from the spigot at your kitchen sink ( NOT BOILING) for about ten minutes remove from water and spool on reel. This will not remove the memory it just basically resets it as it cools from the size coil it was spooled on in the package to the size spool on your reel so the memory will be smaller coils and not try to spring out every time you cast. Adding some KVD line conditioner to a rag hold it and run the line through it as you spool your reel then spray the line on the spool will help as well. Hope this helps

    Thick fluoro seems to be the ticket. Or any size braid. Anything under 12lb test does not skip correctly imo. At that point, grab your spinning setup to skip

    • @diejeffy
      @diejeffy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like braid. After a strong hookset, you really have to unspool the reel with 2 or 3 hard, long casts. That said, I fish lakes where I have a 4-foot braid leader due to zebra muscles.

    • @mynameisnotcory

      diejeffy ive used the same braid for 7 years (obviously dont do that anymore buuuut) i also dont use moderate or slow tipped rods with braid. Fast tipped rods give you that ‘stretch’ that fluoro gives you naturally. So when you hard set the hook, you arent over torqueing the braid

      Fish hold on docks without boats in them,on docks with no boat placement at all, or where the boat isn't. Just as many fish come off walkways as under docks and it can still benefit from skipping along with cable docks if you have any of those.

      Yes, on concrete or asphalt. Just remember to stand on something like a small bucket to simulate being higher than the water surface in a boat. If you don't want to ruin weights or jig heads, tie on a 1/2" or 9/16" Nut to the end of your line and it will skip just like a flat bait on water.
