I really enjoy your channel. Thanks. I’ve been fishing 50 years and just learned to skip baits with a spinning rod about three years ago. Not only great around docks, but I’ve learned this is a super technique for bank/pond fishing where a quiet entry can make or break the day. I usually skip stick baits like a senko and so I was intrigued to see you skipping the Dark Sleeper. Something new to try. Oh yes, thanks for your earlier tip on this bait. Popping it off the bottom works in small lakes and ponds too.
Maybe I'm easily impressed because I just don't get the time on the water that most of you do, but to me that's amazing!! You hit that 12-16 spot on the first try? I'd be all wrapped around the cable, or dock handrail sending my buddy on the dock to go it!! LOL!! Great video Randy!!
Appreciate the tip Randy! I’ve never thought about skipping with my spinning rod/reel set-up. I always thought my line was too light. I can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks much for sharing! 👍🏻🙏🏼🇺🇸
Man skipping is so important. I went home this weekend and our lake is all docks. I was having a blast, and all I had to stand on was a little paddle boat we have. Good on you for emphasizing practice
Starting out on a spinning rod was very helpful for me when first learning. Transfer to the baitcaster was much easier after after getting really comfortable. Hope this may help someone:-)
I am good with a spinning reel and decent with a baitcaster. I'm deadly accurate with regular casting with a baitcaster but I struggle with the right amount of brake, etc to use for skipping. It seems like I always get a small backlash and spend more time pulling it out instead of just going to working the lure.
@@cross_fire_ as do we all, if you ain’t getting backlashes when skipping. You aren’t really skipping. Just keep at it! After you fling the lure/bait across the water, lift the rod tip to the sky toward the end of the skip and it will help slow the bait down and pull out some of that backlash. Sometimes enough that it pulls it all the way out and you are ready to engage the spool and start your retrieve. Hope this helps
@@Huntn_fish365 thanks for the tip! That's genius because it's not a big bird nest just a little and I bet pulling up like that would pull it out. Awesome!
Great video Randy! Thanks for the equipment breakdown and the "on the water" tutorial. I can skip fairly well with a spinning rod, still need a lot of work skipping a baitcaster.
So much easier to skip with a spinning reel !! I recommend doing the “ tape trick” on the spool when practicing with a baitcaster . Save a lot of line and headaches
Hey Randy love your channel. I’ve been a fisherman for 55 years and still find new information that I incorporate into my fishing. I’ve been learning to skip lures and noticed a lot of videos recommend rolling your wrists. Is this just the technique to use when using a baitcast. I noticed you did not do this when you skip using the spin cast reel.
Randy.. Thanks for making these videos. I have learned more from your channel than any other.. You give practical real world advice.. Effectively explained.! Thank you brother!
Sir, could you please do a comparison of skipping jigs with a curado DC vs a standard baitcaster. This type comparison has not been done and it has never been addressed on you tube. Due to two totally different braking systems, people are confused about the ability of a DC reel to skip as good as a traditional baitcaster brake system.
Good video Randy. How far from your target area in general do you hit the water with your bait? It appears that your fairly close to the boat yet when your bait hits the water. And if that’s the case how do you get the momentum to skip that far. I’m just learning to skip with a bait caster. I think I will take your advice and switch back to a spinning reel until I get it figured out. Thanks.
Randy, I know you aren’t a braid to flouro leader guy, but how is the line twists/memory with the straight flouro? I had to do the braid to flouro thing bcuz of the line twist/memory issue. Ain’t a big fan of it like you.👍😃🎣🎣
Are you spinning rods to skip also. I like your warmup I'll have to give that a try. I am able to skip with a casting reel but have no need to as I find the smaller stealthier lures make just little splashes versus a ChatterBait or some other larger profile lower. Thanks for the show and tell
Skipping game is 8 out of 10, but the sock length to shorts length game is a solid 11. 🤣 Just some friendly shit slinging Randy, love your videos and tips. Thanks for putting out good content.
Man I love what your doing Randy. Lot of haters out there.. Keep doing what your doing.. But I will have to say you violated the Dad black socks with shorts law for Men. J/k with you.. I spend allot of time chasing the green fish, and been "Mad at 'em" for a while. Love the experiences I have been blessed to see on the water.. God Bless you and your family, and be safe.
Thanks Randy... I want to get this down ... Is there any tips for skipping when seated in a kayak... I will try to get it down standing ... Then go to the seated position ..
I skip docks where there are a lot of big pikes far above 1 meter plus! I live in the Netherlands. I want to use a spinning setup for skipping for big perch 50cm+ perch. So they are like smallmouth in your country. But i am scared to use a spinning rod becauses i need to get them out of heavy cover and a lot of the times you will get the big pikes eating a finesse jig i want to skip so i use strictly Baitcasters to skip with 50lbs braid minimum to catch those bigger perch. I wish i could skip smaller finesse style jigs but it is to risky!
*BassFishingHQ HQ Fishing came out with a skipping video the other day. He only used a baitcaster and showed various techniques and was incredibly spot on with each!
1. I never once imagined you wore shorts. 2. Looking kinda jacked my dude. 3. What’s your opinion on Gerald swindle saying only women skip docks with spinning tackle.
I would love to know a rough estimation of the hours of practice it takes to get truly proficient at the shallow water short line approaches like flipping pitching punching skipping I see that pros seem to do so effortlessly . Better bring the wife along or she might get grumpy .😳
Of course, one of the worst "professional" anglers out there skips with a spinning reel. As G-Man says, skip with a bait caster, not with a spinning reel, my wife does that.

Excellent video Randy. I like the on the water videos you do. So informative. You are a good teacher.
I’m still waiting for the dump truck to back down the dock. Followed by the crotch rocket!
Lol yes
Thanks for the tips. This is very useful information and helps build confidence to try and improve.
Thank for sharing this one with us! It is cool to see you out on the water doing this!! :)

Appreciate your approach to skipping Randy. I’ve been putting in the time lately to learn this technique and appreciate various angler’s lessons.
One of the best skipping videos I have seen

Great video Randy! Is the 2ft of line off the tip so that the tip loads up just a bit?
Correct.........so much easier with a spinning rod.....good stuff Randy
Great job Randy 👍
Sick skills Randy!
This is why I subscribed right here. Great tutorial sir !
Love the new intro, another banger video! 🔥
Great video. Keep bringing the how to stuff.
Great demo for sure.
Showing off those skipping skills lol.🤣 I always enjoy your videos. 👍🎣
I definitely haven't practiced skipping but I will start practicing!
Thanks Randy.

Very nice. Never heard the tip having 2 feet of line beyond the tip

Every time I skip with straight fluorocarbon on spinning reel my spool looks like that brush pile in video by the end of the day?
Awesome stuff

i like it i can do it with crappie jigs little tougher with bigger but i try to still
Glad to see someone side-arm skip like I do, but I don’t wind up and just launch it like a rock. Gotta work on that…
Good video. Thanks!
This man is the Babe Ruth of fishing... over here calling his shots and making it look easy.
Dude your awesome 🤙🏻
How was the fishing on Table Rock? ;-)
Super info . Nice video , will try it, later to Day. Best regards, from af big fan, in Denmark 🇩🇰

...see that small spider in the web? I'm gonna knock off it's 3 leg on the right side... 😆 Get 'em Randy!!
Thanks great tip.
Perfect!

What about spool of line full or less for better skipping
For baitcaster a spool that is about 3/4 full works far better than a full spool. Way less backlashes that way.
Thanks Randy... I want to get this down ... Is there any tips for skipping when seated in a kayak... I will try to get it down standing ... Then go to the seated position ..
Skipping seated from a kayak requires much of the same technique. Boat position is key. Likely not as much line out for the wind up before the skip
@@keithcameron6894 Not having as much line out makes sense.. The person is already at a low profile... I will start out at a standing position first..
Randy is out of the dungeon!! 🤣🤣

Ty Berger is the pro and he does great on the water demonstrations!

I've fished my whole life and the only time I've been able to skip a lure wasn't even intentional...it offers a man a heck of an advantage
I skip mine with a spin rod too
Glad to see he dressed up for this video. Must have changed his oil first or something.
Super skipping , very nice , thanks for the lesson too
I've been bass fishing for 45 years and im constantly amazed how poor I cast and skip.
Hate those dock cables . Especially in low light . I've caught some biguns.
👍

2. Looking kinda jacked my dude.

Lol funny ! This exact topic was covered on a channel you just critiqued. Not throwin shade just sayin facts.
Thanks for showing us it's OK to skip with a spinning reel. I get a lot of grief for using a "fairy" wand around docks.
If your friends make fun of you for using a spinning rod they are the fairy
Who would dislike this? Seriously someone please tell me what’s there not to like?
my wife would devorce me if i wear that sock and shorts setup..😂😂
👍👍
I definitely suck at it
That was impressive. But I know you are a cast master.
My skipping skills leave a lot to be desired even with practice.
Good video but you need a microphone.
Randy, do you really skip lures like a boss, or does a youngster
write your Facebook titles? :)

I always skip with bait casters after seeing this it's a hole new ball game
Randy enough with the spinning rods 😂
Excellent, excellent video. But, dude, lose the black socks.
Look at your target, roll and visualize the jig landing again the piling your targetting. Ps. If your scared of back lash??? Go home
Ever skipped a rock??
Dude, this is not rocket science. How many of you guys have thrown a baseball side arm!!!??
