I'm sorry, my face is just tired...
to be honest, recent patch did improve the gaming experiences a bit (i emphatize "a bit"), with all that lighting, shadow and animation fix (though they just outright cut some parts) and i had fun with it for a while and ready to jump back in for another play after a while. Still, i wish bioware and EA (fuck you EA!) spent more time on the game and make it more of a real Mass Effect game. So many potentials gone to waste.
I honestly respect how neutral and honest you were about this. I won't be buying it anyways, but I wish more people had your integrity and analysis when it comes to games.

This game accomplished something incredible I never thought it could do, it made me appreciate Mass Effect 3 even more.
Me3 was awesome except the ending.

Just automatically do the destroy ending after Andersons passing and keep the geth/EDI alive + the extended cutscenes.

andromeda is actually pretty damn good once you get to the second planet and the game opens up sure the animation is jank as hell sometimes but the gameplay is clean and addictive i think the biggest problem is that its a mass effect title and our expectations where way too high i see this game following the path of destiny once dlc starts dropping it will end up being exactly what we thought we would get in the first place this is just the landscape of gaming now games get released unfinshed and patched to all hell once the first major dlc drops

I actually loved this game. When I heard about the bugs I waited a few months before playing it and actually had a great experience.
If you loved this game, then your standards must be terribly low and I'm99% sure that you didn'tplay the original trilogy. Anyone who played the original games hates this game and the lame asses who never played the original trilogy love this pile of shit.
This game was cheesy trash with poor/loose game controls, mediocre story, and cheesy dialogue. The original series was wayyyy better than this one.

It seems to me, that the anti SJW crowd are once again, whining about an imagined problem. What does bad animation have to do with wanting equality? I mean shit, I havn't seen one SJW say shit about this game, I just see people complaining about them and it's starting to get old real fast.
To me this is about lazy game designers, bad resource allocation, and rushing a game to market. And they have been pulling that BS long before SJW was a thing.
Erm, there's quite a few minorities. There was a even a black guy in the release trailer? And I've seen quite a few Asians too, don't know what you're on about there. This game /does/ look uglier than it's previous incarnations when it comes to character models, and that just doesn't make any damn sense at all. From what I can tell, this was a studio of people who did not care about the game they were making, resulting from their racist as hell diversity specialist hiring based on race/sex diversity instead of talent/passion. It wasn't a dev team of SJW's, it was one SJW in the right position of authority that screwed things up for everyone.
Thank you for this actually unbiased review of the game. Given the massive love it or hate it response I have been uncertain about whether or not I'd like this game but after this review I feel like I would in fact enjoy playing. Thank you for covering the pitfalls and highlights without seemingly bashing on or praising the game unnecessarily. There really is no way to follow up the original trilogy in any way that would feel like it did it justice, but I like the direction they went with this and I look forward to playing it myself.

I played it once & absolutely hated it, unplayable almost, uninspired for sure but I’m thinking of going back in & attempting to leave my biases at the door. So idk about this dude but I’ll definitely lyk when I wrap on it 😂

I've been playing ME Andromeda since dayone and i love it. i love the adventure and the self gratifying feeling you get when you've made a planet habitable. i give this game an A+

Some of the twist are interesting ( like the Kett ), and the lighter tone of the dialogues, putting you more in a position of explorer than in a grim galactic war, make it somewhat nice.

How did that guy understand what makes RPG's great? He literally said that he would never inflict an ABC ending on the fans, and then he gave us an ABC ending. He sold people a trilogy in which choice was supposed to carry over from story to story, only to make us discovering during the ME3 ending aftermath that they actually never planned the story out.
Casey Hudson and Mac Walters are the main reasons that this game takes place in the Andromeda galaxy. They botched it so bad that a scorched earth tactic was the only viable choice. You didn't think that Bioware wanted so explore a new galaxy so badly after they spent three games building up the Milky Way, did you? It's a tactical retreat, and they have Hudson to thank for it.
Damn Hudson and Walters for fouling up the end of the original trilogy. Its a damn shame that Drew Karpyshyn (did I spell that correctly?) left Bioware, he knew his stuff.

I love movies and love books. Witcher 3 was all that, but as a GAME.

However id say its biggest problem is that it just lacks some soul id describe it. Not as interesting, sense of urgency in its story doesn't have me compelled, overall, worth it at a cheap/discount price at maybe $20 but i wouldn't spend more on that.

They should redo the ending where Shepherd survives and defeats the Reaper invasion. The council then tells Shepherd, ''Spectre, who knows what hidden evil lays elsewhere in the galaxy, we are not safe, we must expand our reach beyond the milky way galaxy, while you were off we assembled the Andromeda Initiative. You will be the tip of the spear leading several Arc ships to Andromeda. God speed nigga'' that would have been fucking awesome. Because then it would feel like everything was worth it, and depending on how many crew members survived in your playthrough you get to decide if they can accompany you on this journey to Andromeda.

You got it wrong, it's not "a game without Shepard" that is the problem, it's: a game without YOUR Shepard.Everyone made Shepard his own, and his comrades felt like your friends, the more you played through the trilogy the more you loved it because of this, everything was tied togheter by your actions.
However Andromeda is fresh, and while Mass Effect 1 had enough flaws, Andromeda seems more hated, and without a sequel to it, it can't redeem itself.
I don't agree... Shepard had a begining, and an ending, and it was worth it. Having it continue on to long wouldn't have the same taste. Yes, the new MC isn't Shepard, and it shows in the dialogue, with a more uplifting tone and persona... And I'm fine with it. It's another character I will develop differently, which will make different and new friends, and will grow...
If there is an Andromeda 2 ( which is somewhat confirmed by Bioware insisting they aren't done with Andromeda yet ), I think they won't rush it like the first... And I'll be okay with ME1 being the Mass Effect 1 back in the day. New, fresh, kinda weird and buggy ( hi there, Mako ), and prelude to Mass Effect freaking 2.
With the more big titles that release, you begin to realise how much of a special game the Witcher 3 is.

I personally loved this game. I've beaten each ME three times, and I have played this game for the same amount. This game has a good story, and the graphics are beautiful. This is a great, almost brilliant game, but is flawed. Almost every game is, no matter how "perfect" they are, flawed.
I’ve just picked up my Xbox One X so I’ve missed a few Games and Mass Effect Andromeda and Ghost Recon Wildlands were games I really wanted to play. People are quick to criticise games and expect so much. Personally I’m really looking forward to this with the updates in place. Nice video. 🙂

I've been playing this game recently and I'm honestly enjoying it. Yeah some of the Vault puzzles suck but I am enjoying it. The only issue I have is just that there is so much to do that the Priority Ops don't even feel like a priority.
I won't be playing this until it is $20 with all the dlc. LOL

I actually really liked Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. Playing as different races and nonstandard classes was really fun. Some of the classes, like the Geth Juggernaut, were really easy to play. Others, like the Volus engineer, provided more high risk high reward gameplay. It was very well balanced.
hey gameranx just in case you havent found it yet, you can load "favorites" from the skill menu letting you get profile and skill set ups that you can change mid combat giving you essentially 12 mappable abilities

i kinda always got a chuckle out of that, i expect more from bioware. when your decisions hold no real weight in a mass effect game, that was mass effects selling point.
Don't recall too many things bearing much weight in the original trilogy (I can only think of Wrex, Ashley/Kaidan, and the Rachni), apart from whether your squad mates survive the ending of ME2 and ME3. And who is present in the human embassies in ME2 (....which doesn't even carry over to ME3, though I can see why).
it never mattered other than the few times you chose who lived or died and even then the destination is the same.
1:30 huge ups, sub on the spot. You're the real deal. Most would not just offer "an out" at 1m runtime (if ever). You know the YT graphs and DGAF.
I played it early on and absolutely loved it. He is saying it feels less inspired probably because what you are doing in the story carries less gravity than fighting reapers. Also things you say do matter less a lot in andromeda but not all the time. Years later and I’d still recommend it.

I don't know why everyone say the combat is great. They took ME3 gunplay and made it even more generic. When ME3 came out the combat was one of the main critic (beside the ending obviously).
It became a gears of war or any other 3rd person shooter like that feels like you're using plastic airsoft guns. Remember ME2 were you felt powerful, biotics that had impact, guns that felt like guns (like the carnifex that felt like a toy in ME3 instead of the sci fi version of the biggest revolver you could think of)
They changed the pace to a fast generic running and gunning instead of keeping the slower, much more satisfying powerful tank-feeling gameplay and I'm sad they decided to make it worse in andromeda
I guess I'm one of a few how think that way now for andromeda and it's strange considering the mass of people disapointed by that bland ME3 gunplay
I honestly love this game, I'm not really one for going and picking out all the flaws. My main focus when playing is having fun and progressing. Yeah, there might be needed improvements but that doesn't make the game terrible. The characters are awesome too, especially PeeBee.
I agree with what you said the original Mass Effects were awesome and commander S. was bad ass, but I'm glad they switch to the Ryder's, it gives a newer and fresher feel. Remember mass effect came out 8-9 years ago, the switch was needed and I love the direction they took in space exploration. Hopefully people can start enjoying the game instead of hating it just because of some facial feature or a bit of a confusing story set up. I promise, if you actually focus on the gameplay and not the small details you'll enjoy this game a lot.

I got it on sale for $10 during the big EA sale that will continue until March 6th. I may just delve back into the original trilogy later this year after Monster Hunter.
I like how you addressed the reasons why the game isn't quite up to par with other Mass Effect games. For me, personally, Andromeda was actually the first Mass Effect game I played, and I absolutely love it. I am not one for shooter games, but after having my brother cram it down my throat and seeing him play it a couple of times, I decided to give it a shot. For me, I got especially invested in only a few characters, but that's mostly because I didn't get the chance to romance all of them. I'm not about to be a space playboy lol. I'm glad to hear that the characters in the game were on a somewhat higher level than previous games, because I really enjoyed them. Sure, the expressions fall flat sometimes, but when don't they in video games? Remember when games were just tiny 16bit sprites? Geez people, have there been better facial animations? Yes, but that's no reason to hate the game before giving it a real chance. Overall, I can see how fans of the franchise didn't LOVE this addition, and hearing it put in a more pragmatic light is a nice change of pace.
I just finished playing the ME trilogy for the first time and went right back to play ME 1 again, after watching Andromeda on Twitch... It's not a bad game, but the game is just not finished as it was not finished with ME2 and ME3 and it's hard to support a company for spending hundreds of millions of dollars, advertising for an unfinished game, instead of delivering something great.
I'm not disappointed in the game itself, just hate to watch the business practices of EA and how they ruin the best games for several years now.
Even tough I loved the previous 3 Mass Effect games, I think I will wait until the price goes down to get this one. I prefer to spend the 60 bucks on Horizon Zero Down for now.

HZD is an amazing looking game and that's it. The actual quests are kinda dull and things get real repetitive and the story is ok. I'd wait till the price went down on it too. TMO (That's my opinion).
Glen Damico horizon is not that much about quests cause it's not rpg in the first place. It's about greatly directed dialogues, absolutely stunning visuals and design, unbelievable immersion and brillian facial animation after all (nailed it)

Buy the Full Trilogy in one game, i think its called Trilogy :D There even some DLC already in there exept for some very good one but u still can wait for the sales and the DLC become more affortable, watch a video about the dlc that maby interest you. It will be MUCH MUCH more fun and even cheaper than this PIECE OF SHIT SJW GAME.
Watplr Wraith know that it hasn't aged well. You should also consider your class ahead of time...ME 1 limits your proficiency with certain weapons based on your class. You can use each one but if you're restricted to say, a Pistol only as a Biotic, then every other gun you use won't be able to hit the broadside of a barn at spitting distance. Soldier is pretty OP in #1 but gets a little boring. Biotics are cool but don't flesh out until the 2nd game. Tech abilities are multifaceted... I recommend bringing a party member with a focus on those types of skills if that isn't what your character will be using. You'll see what I mean if & when you play it.

You can buy the whole trilogy for $30 on origin. I just played all 3 in a row and it was great. Idk what that guy is saying that they haven't aged well, they aged very well in my opinion at least.

I absolutly loved Andromeda, I played on PS4 for the first time this past year with the last patch released, which did fix some issues, but not all. Even with that, I enjoyed the gameplay, the story and exploration. The only downside the game had was the knowledge that there is no MEA2, because after multiple play throughs and hundreds of hours played, I just wanted more of this game and I was invested enough that I wanted to see where the story goes from here. And if visuals are things you just can't look past, play the game on PC with some mods and you'll grow to love the game, maybe not on the same level as ME2 or ME3, but it is it's own experience.
This is great news to hear! Ive never played other Mass Effect games so it doesn't need to be like the others. Im just wanting a game with fun gameplay/combat and exploration. Im playing FF16(which is gorgeous with a great story)and the loot and gameplay is pretty boring when not fighting bosses or battles.

i had dozens of playthroughs of eah ME game with the same class and just once wen't renegade. Besides, paragon/renegade gone isn't that bad, at least you no longer have to choose answers based on their position in the wheel of karma, unless you want you team mates to die that is.

mae That worked for ME2 because your decisions bore consequences that changed how the game felt. Meanwhile what I've seen of Andromeda seems to be more about city management, which isn't very exciting.
Replayability lies in the biotic/tech/combat upgrades you make, it's near impossible to unlock everything you want and put it to good use in just one playthrough unless you do some serious grinding

Technically with favourites you have 12 mappable powers a choice of four of the (six? Seven?) profiles. You just program them in and switch mid fight as required from the weapon wheel

I agree.. the combat system was my favorite combat system i have maybe ever played, and they really set up for a great trilogy. People expected way too much. How many alien races did you see in ME1? They are all here... the only thing that was truly unacceptable was the facial animation issue and the number of bugs at launch imo.

I think pre-release, people were upset that this wasn't Mass Effect 4 with Shepard. Post-release? The bugs and lack of character depth seemed to turn off most people.
I actually really liked this game but I did prefer the more focused nature that defined 2 and 3. Exploration should have been fun, but each world just felt like the same tasks on a new map. Even the environmental hazards felt the same. I really wish Bioware could have spent more time refining the game through updates and DLC before jumping into the Anthem disaster.

Mass Effect: Halo 5 Inquisition? They didn't have much to fix from ME3, the game wasn't broken. This feels like the transition from Halo: Reach to Halo 4/5. It was painful and I still turn back to Halo: Reach.

Not been around a Console in a while but I’ve just picked up my Xbox One X and I brought this Game digitally. As I missed this Game I wanted to go back and play it despite all the negatively. I’m about to finish the Mass Effect Legendary Edition after not playing the originals since they first released. I love this series; so, bad reviews or not, I’m finally gonna play this game.
I'm as far as the Angara missions and Remnant locations. It's not a bad game... Also I mastered all three original Mass Effect games plus a game for the tablet way back about 6 years ago... Anyhow Mass Effect Andromeda is half my type kinda game but enough so I will continue to play it.

Not really, there have been a lot of well presented highly critical reviews by people who have played it and I think that is having a lot of influence. Frankly the game does look a bit rubbish. My guess is, like DA:Inquisition, it will be... ok. Not terrible, but just... ok. And that is not good enough for me. CDPR raised the bar for RPGs and "ok" just doesn't hack it any more. Plus I'm willing to just skate past the inevitable SJW crap in so many American games if they are otherwise awesome, but for a poorly animated & badly scripted game? Nah. I am going to give ME:A a miss.

Why did people not moan about the witcher 3's launch animation bugs and mediocre story? That game has been patched to kingdom fuck, who's to say this can't be patched as well? Why is no one moaning about horizons obnoxious exposition and npc animations which switch between planky uninterest and crack-whore twitchiness. It's because you're all so afraid of falling off the bandwagon. Modern gamers should at least be consistent about their bitching.

I've loved the game so far, the vast amounts of exploration, the drama, the quirky interesting character, and some of the decision may not have an over lying outcome but in the moment they feel incredibly difficult to choose, I constantly have found myself sitting there trying to make a decision, it's a fun game and the micro transactions in the multiplayer aren't an issue because there is no pvp and you can open a gold pack after like four to five matches depending on you score I think the game is fine how it is (minus the bugs) and hopefully there is an andromeda 2
I played the demo and I thought that was passable especially for the special price is on at the moment in mid July 18, but even then I wanted to check it out and I find your review as I tough this game is at list playable, as I said I played 5 minutes of the demo and I kind liked it
