      Incredible!
I don't know anything about sewing or pattern making and I simply understood everything.
I inherited a sewing machine and I wanted to try it, even if just for fun.

I went to artschool to do visual communication, i like it but halfway through i found out that i really wanted to be a fashion designer above all. Unfortunately my life hit a long rough patch and im ashamed to say i didnt fight back the way i should have for a long time...11 years to be exact. I found your channel on instagram a year ago and was blown away by your talent. Im at fashion school now. Thanks to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ i made it and your videos have been the only true source of inspiration and help, i strive to be like you one day. God bless You Mr. Quiring.

Brillant tutorial! Two things I might want to add: if you measured your shoulder depth, i.e. how much lower is your shoulder on the furthest point than where it meets your neck, you might be able to shorten the trial and error phase quite a bit regarding that detail.
Also: if you make your first prototype of just the bodice before drafting the sleeves, you can fix issues with the armholes without having to redraw a sleeve that wouldn't fit anymore after the adjustments.

This is the perfect companion to the sewing books I have that talk about collars, pockets, buttons, and zippers, but don't actually talk about the rest of the garment. I'm used to just tracing the shirt that fits the most and then fixing where it doesn't really work (I have some teen clothes that fit okay, but the arms are too short). This should help me fix a few of those issues I couldn't quite understand what to do with.

So very useful and informative. For the last 3 years, i've been making Christmas shirts for my partner and 3 adult sons, from a commercial pattern. They're all very different shapes and sizes and I've struggled to make them a better fit (I last sewed in Domestic Studies at school, some 40 years ago!!) This video will hopefully give the shirts a much better outcome (although they're all grateful that I take the time to make a handcrafted gift, and indeed wear them all year round :) )

I've been struggling to make button up shirts for myself, I'm a pretty busty woman and other sewing videos for female buttons ups sorta always confused me when it came to resizing. A video dedicated to turning my measurements into a shirt that'll fit has just made everything so understandable. I have books on resizing, and I know how to make a lot of other things to fit me but for some reason applying what I know to button up shirts always made me get lost. I did some extra measurements to account for my chest (an over and under bust measurement) but overall I feel very confident about the mock-ups I'll be making soon.
Seriously, thank you. I love the look of a nice button up shirt.

I am just getting back into sewing, as I am one of those odd sized guys that nothing off the rack ever fits (think short, fat hobbit dude). Patterns for someone as off the scale so far as measures go are literally impossible to find, so I'm in this area of want (need) for creating my own patterns to work with.
What you just gave me was more valued and deeply appreciated that you will ever know, and I don't exaggerate. I now have that little "guide" via this tutorial on how to correctly fit my patterns; so that they fit my strangely odd measurements. This also gives me a better idea as to how I can alter the clothing I have hanging in my closet that are ill-fitting and in need of shortening and narrowing (when it comes to the neckline...widening).
My humble thanks. You helped a pretty frustrated man today who was just about to give up on being able to wear shirts that actually fit. Thank you so very much.

Thanks so much for this video! I truly appreciate the time and effort you take to talk through every detail and provide visual explanations. And to edit such a long video that is super easy to follow, and really you give us all that is needed to create the perfect shirt for our needs! And for free! You make a lot of people very happy, you know!
I sew a pair of pants with the guidance of your pants' drafting video (they turned out great) and for a long time was really hoping you would make one on drafting a shirt as well! And now you have! I will definitely try this out, and am also looking forward to the next video about creating a button-up shirt.. store-bought ones never fit me right. :D
P.S. I think it's cool that you keep the interludes short and informative, not dragging them out like many others do ;)

Thank you for the very kind words about my work. I appreciate you telling me. I am also glad to hear that your pants turned out well for you. Let me know how it goes with the shirt pattern once you get to it. I'm busy working away on the button-up shirt now and will post it once it's ready.
      Thank you again.

Cornelius!!!!! I so freaking love you!! I chance upon your channel n I LOVE it! I am a visual person n your explaination of step by step n also as to why, I can SO understand how to draft a bodice now. Most online tutorial n classes I go to, always assume I know the reason why of certain steps, n no explanation was given, n if I asked, they gave so technical whys, which made me even more confused. But you! You so patiently n calmly explained every steps! I so so love your tutorial! Thank you! Thank you! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 You have me at first sight n follower now💖💖💖💖

@@CorneliusQuiring I actually just made a perfect t-shirt today. Made a pattern from a favorite t-shirt. 85% stretch on the neckline. Made it 2" longer at the hem. Just need to thread my other machine to finish the hem with a double needle overlock. That is what takes a long time: threading machines.

One advice on taking measures, taking it several times is a great tip, but I'd also compare your measurements with a size chart from whatever book you follow. That allows you to make sure you are didn't measure incorrectly and have a value off by too much.

I just discovered your channel and wow, your video's are amazing! Super informative and very professional. I just took a look at your website out of curiosity and now I understand how your video's are so professional: you really do have a background in design!
I really want to learn how to sew my own clothes. I am a very tall girl (mostly long legs and a short torso with long arms) and I find it really difficult to find clothes that fit me well. There are few stores that cater to tall women and the ones that do are fast fashion brands that sell bad quality clothes that are absolutely not sustainable and probably also not very ethically made. I really appreciate your video's, it gives me hope that I will be able to make my own clothes in the future!
