    What about a video on dual 4090 builds for Redshift/Octane?
    What Mobos and Cases can fit it? What are the temperatures of the upper card when they run almost glued together? Caveats of PCI speeds and lanes.
    And most important (for me): Is it possible to have two suprim liquid x 4090s on a Fractal North build?

      Well since I am using movie Maker HD and my old Zen2 rig, basic creator kit - I always come back here before I buy something.
      January is the planned upgrade time, so really anything that's going to help me make a better decision is a must-watch at the moment.
      I had a far more humble start than you did, but my ambitions are probably just as wide - but I have a far stricter budget lol. I think it's unlikely I will spend more than £2k on the entire setup, monitor and computer.
      That means unless I am getting a great deal on a GPU, it will be whichever one gives me the editing grunt that I will need at the lowest reasonable price. It's the least likely part to get an upgrade in future!
      But aside from those things which you already do quite often, certainly as often as I require - additional things you could do that I would like :
      - Spy and virus guards which are good with the least performance hit (I never get to disable mine not even for a day).
      - Best ways or methods to have a main rig for editing and recording, and maybe 3 or 4 other HDMI devices along with a big screen and 3 smaller ones.
      What is the optimal way to organise and run all that stuff together? I have a terrible time with that. I have so many extra cables and box switches and stuff, and it's still not ideal or even near to! it is functional lol.
      I bet you could do a far far better job, in fact if you did a long video that 100% solved this problem I would go and spend £30-40 in your store or Patreon just for that one thing!
      Only since it is you doing it though, don't farm it out to somebody else lol I was stung by that once with LTT. Or should I say ETT.@@theTechNotice

    I'm using Davinci Resolve, went from 5900X to 7600 because I went with DR Studio so work is done through GPU. A friend informed me that Intel with iGPU actually works better in Davinci Resolve for scrubbing through DR timeline (I'm doing 4K reso).
    Current I'm not facing any lag or lack, just wondering if it's worth me spending a good load of money just for a new board, go with Core i3-12100 (the only one I have with iGPU, not using CPU cores much).
    Would appreciate if could get some opinion from you. TIA.

      I would say it's not worth it right now for you to spend money to completely switch platforms. Wait until you need to upgrade, then switch over to Intel. At least wait until Zen 5 comes out to see if it might actually utilize the iGPU at all. Intel's next gen will be Arrow Lake in 2025. That might be a good time to upgrade and switch over.

    One thing I'm wondering about when comparing Intel to AMD is how much cooling do you need? Apparently ryzen 7000 series are designed to run hot and I don't know if this is just AMD making excuses or whether the CPU actually performs better at 95C compared to running a custom loop capable of lowering the temperature.
    Can a 360 aio cool a 13900k so it won't throttle for video editing? I know sometimes the tests used to test these CPUs push them beyond what regular workload will ever ask of the CPU.
    Is the cooling required the same between the 7950x and 13900k?

    Love the video man! Ryzen 7000 and intel 13th are absolutely amazing. I can definitely back that intel hits higher numbers for performance in most scenarios compared to 7000. Only reason i went with ryzen though is mainly the power draw. Intel cpus suck down quite a bit more than the ryzen and since the performance is fairly small and probably not noticable in every day task, i went with 7950x back in December and dont regret it one bit.

    • @CC-gt3ro
      @CC-gt3ro 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I heard the power draw average is in favor of Intel. Amd use more power at idle and in games the power is the same. It is at rendering that the power draw is higher. And we are talking of no more than a bulb consumption difference. My issue is more the temp of both Intel and new amd cpu. Undervolting is necessary and i don’t know the impact on long term. Intel has better memory controller and no cpu burning like amd. I wait to see ryzen 8000 and intel 15900k. By the meantime i will simply upgrade to 5950x or 5900x

      Trust me not a big difference because Intel is the most efficient when not gaming or only background task can go down to just 15watt but my brothers Ryzen was still pulling around 70-90watt not sure why they are designed like this idle power consumption is not as good as Intel

I believe there was a slight chip degradation since the 5.1ghz profile isn't stable anymore, but if you ask me it is still mighty impressive. Adding to this I think Intel stated that they expect their chips to be "fine" at running at TJ max. Therefore in general I would not worry too much about temperatures

      I just want to point out that intel cpus seam to have a much lower idle power draw than AMD multi-chiplets cpus, thus depending on the use case intel might come out as the higher efficiency option.

    P-core and E-core are Intel terms just like hyper-threading. AMD only has cores and SMT. I understand your reasons for your RAM speed selection but doesn't really make sense as the comparison is biased. To be consistent you should have disabled boosting on both CPUs as there specified rated TDP are going to be out of spec otherwise. As far the memory controllers being weaker or better, that could be true but not necessarily accurate and AMD's chiplet design and infinity fabric wouldn't necessarily perform any better if it's IMC was "stronger" or "better". AMD released a new AGESA that improved DDR5 speed on AM5 to DDR5-8000 MT/s, does change the chips engineering but doesn't it make the previously weak IMC "stronger". If you used had locked the base frequencies for both then the extra power requirements for Intel wouldn't have been an issue.

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought about that, but not sure if you've looked into 4 stick EXPO on Ryzen 7000 or higher capacity RAM (64GB+) EXPO stability?
      As creators we need more than just 32GB and at higher capacities Intel does do a better just at the moment, which should be reflected in the benchmarks. If I used 6000mts 32GB on both platforms, I'd actually bottleneck the benchmarks by the RAM capacity which would skew the results even more.
      The reason I'm leaving the power limits open is not because I've opened them, it's because most* motherboards have set the MCE or equivalent ON by default (whether this should be on is another conversation) and I believe most people will use the motherboard like that. Hope this clarifies this abit.

    • @maxwellsmart3156
      @maxwellsmart3156 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@theTechNotice AM5 does have limitations on 4 sticks, so most people needing 64 GB will use 2 32 GB sticks. And most users will enable XMP/EXPO. I would even go so far as saying they would put some effort in basic memory tuning. I don't expect you to do that when benchmarking. Since you use primarily Intel terminology I assume you are more comfortable in that environment. But if you are going to allow any amount of power on an Intel platform you should at least use the optimum 6000 MT/s with 2 x 32 GB for the AMD system. They are both sanctioned overclocking. I'm of the mind it's wilful bias because no one would do what you are doing and then claiming that one system is better than the other.

      I am not the guy you asked, but I think I can still help you a little bit. I can't include the link without it getting snipped, but I managed to get a AMD 5600G with integrated graphics (125) cooled with EKL Ben Nelvis cooler (25) and 16GB of Kingston Fury Beast DDR4-3600 (50) on an MSI MPG B550 board (120), housed in a NZXT H5 Elite (110) and powered by a non modular 400 Watt BeQuiet PSU (60) with a gold rating for just under 500€ total in Europe. Add in a cheap M.2 for about 40 Euros and you'd have yourself a PC for about 500. I'd say you can get pretty much the same maybe with a different cooler and PSU for about 450 dollars in the US, because most parts are slightly cheaper in dollars, so maybe you can even get a 2TB M.2 with that and stay just under 500.
      You would have to get a real GPU later and don't try encoding video or playing games in 4k or hell even any newer 3D games on that. As a creator save up for an Intel ARC 750 GPU for about 200 bucks and double the ram for another 50. If you manage to get a 650 Watt PSU for not much more than the 400 gold and you will definitely step up later, then obviously buy that right away. Let's say you get one for 80. So that adds 330 to the tab. Then you will be at around 830, which gets you a good PC that looks really nice and performs better than what 90% of the people have. It's not going to be a 2023 high end machine, but it will look great, allow you to do video editing and be okay even in games, especially if you aren't trying to game on a 4k monitor. Once you have a little bit more money you will want to step up to the GTX 4070 most likely, unless all you do is like photoshop and premier pro. But you will need more CPU power to max out what that card can do. On the other hand if you don't do creative work and you will only game in 1080p, maybe a GTX4060 and 550 Watt PSU is enough for you, which won't require more than 5600G as a processor to be honest. But if you want to max out the 4070 and do quite a bit of video editing and gaming with that PC eventually, you would be looking at a 5800X3D as an upgrade. If you want to do work only and mostly video work, the the 5950X is still not too bad of an upgrade path.
      As for Intel Asrock's cheapest 760 Lightning mainboard will give you DDR5 for 120ish. A 12700K which is the cheapest option with 8 fast cores is still almost 300 though. You could also go 14600K for more slower cores and less faster ones and about the same overall speed for about the same overall price. Then you'll need 32 GB of DDR5, which will run you at least 100, probably closer to 120. A very good M.2 with 2TB can be had for about 90. You'll need 100 Watts more for Intel these days and this is a much faster CPU than the AMD from above, so you are in the 850W range, where the good ones cost you 150. That's 120 + 300 + 120 + 90 + 150 = 780. Still need the case and air cooler which adds another 150 or so (can be more if you step up the cooler, which you might have to), unless you buy something pretty ugly. So that's 830 and over double the budget and also doesn't include a discret GPU. In fact the AMD will have better 3D power, because their integrated graphics are better. But then again the Intel K variants give you Quicksync and more, which can be a much bigger deal as a creator than whether you can get 26 or 14 frames in a new title on low settings.
      The above 500 dollar AMD build gets you some Blizzard arcade games, some shooters on super low settings or oldschool games in 1080p, stutter free youtube and will feel quite snappy until you try to use lightroom, photoshop or video editing without proxy files. After you upgrade that with the Intel ARC for 220ish, you will be fine doing most things and can even game a little. Check the 750 benchmarks to see what exactly would work. But then the upgrade path on AM4 isn't there. You can step up one time to a 5950X or 5800X3D and get within about 20-30% of todays highend builds. It will be enough to power anything south of a 4070ti as well, but you will need a new PSU to power those cards.
      On the Intel build you are within 15% of today's best PCs for most things and maybe you won't bottleneck a 4080 much. You can probably sell that Intel PC better than the AMD one, too. It will suck a lot more watts from the plug though. You can upgrade it all the way to a 14900k and 4090, but I probably wouldn't do that with that board. Intel is basically buy use for 3 years sell. AMD with AM4 is the cheapest path to a fast PC right now, but AM5 will have a longer lifespan. You can get a 7800X3D now and later on maybe get a 8950X3D or maybe even a 9959X3D if that will be a thing. AM5 will be here for a while most likely. So an AM5 mainboard will be upgradeable and then you usually sell that kind of system when the new socket has been adopted for a year or two at a fraction of the cost of new parts. That's why most PC youtube videos are centered around the Intel 1700 vs. AMD AM5 routes. How good are these systems at what exactly and will you keep them, upgrade them or sell down the line. That is what people worry about right now.
      By the way both ways can be financially quite equivalent, but I would say the initial investment for Intel and power usage at the moment is a little higher than for an AMD system. A budget of 400 is basically an i3 on a cheap 1700 intel or the AMD version from above and the AMD is faster and better and has the much better GPU, so it is perhaps your only real option here. It's like Android vs. iPhone You can buy a new iPhone every other year and get some money for the old model, so that the difference pays about for a mediocre Android or you can buy a mediocre Android for a third of the price, throw that away in 2 years and get a new one. After the initial investment for Apple you effectively lose the same amount of money, but you probably do have a better phone. And just like with Android, you will have to pay for a lot of apps that are free for Android. Right now Intel probably is a little bit better than AMD for most things except for maybe gaming, but it costs more and you need to pay more as you go, because AMD is more energy efficient and not just by a little bit.
      So the true answer to your question is probably that you might be able to get a nice PC for 400ish, but not with a discrete GPU. A 4060 is 300 by itself and is about the entry barrier to 4k gaming on very low settings. Gaming sites will tell you that it is basically a 1080p only card. The 4070 costs a little over 600. And that plus the above Intel build gets a solid creator PC that you can max games out with at 1440p and that will still play most new titles well if you lower some of the settings. And something like that was the topic for the last video on this channel. That's basically the equivalent of last years iPhone for you. If that's your work tool and you make money with your PC work, that's probably where it starts. The 900 dollar build was really the barebones minimum like, if you don't make any money, but you also actually do a ton of work on your PC, you might be able to get by on that 900 dollar build or mine for 830 or whatever. Those aren't that different to be honest. I probably have the better CPU and he probably has an entry level GPU in there already, but that's a guess, because I only watched the 1.5k one and that is pretty much what I would do as well. I'd go NZXT for the case though, but it's all within 10-20 bucks of what anyone with good knowledge would do. The man knows his fans, coolers and m.2 SSDs though, that's for sure.

    The weird RAM configuration pretty much invalidates your test. Are you comparing CPU or RAM? why mix them?

      He explains that each CPU was rated to handle RAM at different max speeds. So the RAM was set to the max advertised speed that each processor could handle, probably removing doubts around stability or performance problems.
      Edit: also if one CPU performs better because it can handle faster ram that's nice to know

    5950x vs 7950x again, so confusing 5th had better playback sometimes :)

    Don't use either, use Sony Vegas or Sony Movie Studio. Hail to the kings, baby.
    I don't even know why you'd spend a fortune on a video editing rig, and then use free junk like Resolve. Spend a bit of cash on your video editor.
    On the other hand, I don't know why you'd spend a fortune on Premiere Pro. Seems like the opposite end of the spectrum... too much.
    Sony Vegas dominates the nice middle ground, and it's got this luscious multirack editor. I went with the 7950x. It gets the job done. Limit it to 80C and/or 140w in BIOS and it runs sweet, 7% lower Passmark than balls to the wall cooking and I'm fine with that.
    Once you go over 2 sticks of RAM, your speed is going to drop down to 3800mghz. Having 128gb is sweet. Now I want 192gb...
    What I was surprised at was how much my editor uses the GPU 3D engine and no so much the encode and decode engines... which it's not maxing out. All those little Nvidia cores though it makes big time use of them to render transitions and effects.

    warranty of factory spec? This guy is clueless. AMDs website shows you which ram kits to buy to get speeds up to 6000. There is no fine print saying you will void your warranty. Not that I care what he does. But I think that qualifies as AMD approved. Pretty sure he knows that also.

      have you tested this for yourself? i have and running 4 sticks of 6000MHz on AM5 is a horror show. At 5600MHz no issues.

      Yeah the whole "warranty" statement left a weird taste in my mouth, I don't buy it.

      I think he worded that a bit poorly but his intention was to state the default memory controller frequency. Expo doesn’t void warranty and in fact AMD was paying for shipping broken CPUs from that SOC voltage fiasco a few months back. Tldr: he probably didn’t mean warranty

      I highly recommend checking out AMD's EXPO page here: www.amd.com/en/technologies/expo
      Click on the little arrow on this page and footnotes, which is very interesting. Now at the same time even though they shouldn't officially warranty the OC-d CPU I've heard multiple stories how AMD has replaced the CPUs even when they've been OC-d. This could vary by region and they 'don't have to legally', but it's just an important point to consider...
      Also, this conversation with JJ might also shed light on this topic: th-cam.com/video/wzVZgTP2204/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pvUyBWl9qGIrmToJ

    "pugetbench for davinci resolve" test only use 1 track of videos ,. that suppress intel igpu performance ; the real advantage of UHD iis , it have 2 decoders which make it 2-3 times fatser then dpgu's ,. and this 2 decoder only work , if we use more than 2 track of videos (of course we use more than 2 timeline videos),.
    so testing UHD performance with "pugetbench for davinci resolve" is pointless;
