I thought you had the exact same connection speed all over the house with Mesh connection but it turns out it works like a Wifi-Extender. I only get limited connection on certain ends.
I am planning to buy Deco M5 but want to make sure if that's the right choice. I will be going for 2 device system. what will be the practical speed if I connect to second deco through one conceit wall? I have 300 mbps internet plan.
@@wiggumo you mean AP mode? Yes even if you have an existing router, you can also set the Decos in Router Mode so that features like Antivirus, QoS and Firewall remain Enabled BUT you would need to turn off the WiFi in your main router and maybe disable DHCP there. You would also need to adjust the DHCP pool in the Decos. We're almost in the same situation, I already have a powerful enough router so I wanna use it still but I don't want to just set the Decos in AP Mode because I want to take advantage of their Antivirus.
No loss at all, I use these for my granny flat at the back of the yard and the modem is on the other side of the house and it reaches. This is amazing, literally the best wifi extender you can buy.
how much of that 1300mbps use for back-door interface between nodes? i can't find any of those specs on cheap mesh system. those AC2000+ confidently show off how many bandwidth used for back-door communication but not this ac1300 1300 to me is pretty low and im not sure if i will accept anything lower than that
Do they all work connected by cables (rj45)? I have got a house on three floors and on every floor there is a cable. I would like to put one on each floor all connected by cables to a single switch. Thanks
You just need to plug 1Deco to the modem or router with an rj45 cable, then the rest can be connected wirelessly. So you can put 1 deco unit per floor.
I've tried two TP-Link Deco mesh systems. Both dropped connection frequently. I thought my 4-year-old Apple AirPort Extreme needed an upgrade to something new. Was I ever wrong. The TP-Link mesh stuff that I tried was trash.
are you able to use these just as access points or does one unit have to be the router? I let my pfsense box handle all my routing and dhcp IP reservations.
Yeah I ended up using the system as AP only after I couldnt port forward. Worked perfectly tbh. Didnt even have to tell it to be an AP, it just knew its job once I plugged it into my main router.
I have a wifi modem router, can I just plug the Deco into one of the ports on the router and become an AP, and the 2 other Deco be added to the first Deco?
Excellent review, as I've been considering this setup since I just heard about it! Thanks!! However, I also have a similar setup to yours - Home Server (Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard), need for port forwarding, static IP Addresses, VPN, etc. Will you please update this reveiw/video when you find out if the released/updated software allows such advanced features? Thanks again!
I am thinking of building a Plex media server and want to be able to have 5 or 4 4k streams at one time and am new to Plex, could you give me some tips or something useful?
Was this a sponsored video? What was your relationship with TP link for this video? You mentioned it was a pre release software version so i guess this is a pre production device? I believe your test was honest but a lot of the "features" you talked about sounded like a commercial. Especially the virus protection feature, features like this give unsophisticated users a false sense of security. Please be clear about sponsored video's and your relationship with the vendor.
Not Sponsored at all. Only benifit to me is I get to see the product a week before they released it. TPLink didnt even get to see the video before I made it live. The pre-release software was for the phone app. Their dev said they were working on a newer version that had features I was looking for. But I told them I was still going to mention it because I felt it was important. By law, if I was paid to do this, I would have to tell you. which I have in the past. Check my WD PR4100 video
Used to have the google wifi and got rid of that. For about the same type of things that the TP link suffers from. Inability to setup custom IP ranges but it did have port forwarding, but did not have DynDNS support. I have since got a Ubiquiti USG and 2 AP AC Pros and couldn't be happier. So much more functionality.
i currently have the VirginMedia SuperHub 3, so thats currently my all in one (modem, router, AP)... it doesnt cover most of the house however, so i plan to get one UAP AC Lite and then hopefully that'll do the job... if not, ill get another and put it downstairs.
Watched various reviews of this today, this is the best by a considerable distance.

On the products forum, it shows that you can set up port forwarding (under Advanced settings). Maybe they added this after your review
I like the built in virus protection. This might work for me since I won't need the advance options, thanks for the info.
sad that it's disabled in AP mode :(
@@mediocritycentral why Is it disabled in the access point?
@@wiggumo because NAT, Firewall, QoS, and Antivirus are disabled in AP Mode
@@mediocritycentral ok so if my router has av mode then I can still have it?

How much is the speed affected by connecting to the extra points?

3 years of using.. still good?
I just bought this and I can say it now has the advanced features he said we're sorely missing.

Can I used my ISP WI FI and deco mesh separately? And do you if a vpn can be added?

what do you think of its design? beautiful or just normal in shape.
It has a good minimalists vibe to it. Simple and effective, without making too much of a statement.
How does this compare to all the other "consumer" mesh systems that have appeared recently (Google Wifi, Eero, Orbi, etc)?
Have you done a port scan on the AP to see if SSH/Telnet are open?
have not
Thanks for the review,
So, did the software get a decent update by now? like a web interface?
Are the options like Port Forwarding already available with the M5?
if i use deco m5 at downstair, but i just use normal maxis router?
how good is this device as just a wifi extender? If I buy only one unit to use as an extender will it work as it should?

does it have its own dhcp server ? or it is using the one from your router automatically ?
@@Bytemybits If you setup this way (use Deco as AP), is the network will has 2 SSIDs? one from "original" router and other SSID from Deco)??
Do you think I can get my full bandwidth with this deco system on any part of my house my bandwidth is 50 ?

hey just wondering if they have change port forwarding yet
Is it better than the TPlink AV2000 powerline?
Did the updates ever came?
hi, i got the 2 pack m5, does one mesh device needs to be near the modem after it was connected ? or can i move it to another part of the house ?
You need one deco m5 connected directly to your modem
One problem the TP-Link series of routers and WIFI extenders don't use text passwords but numbers possibly up to 15 digits.
did you lose any speed with these
Try pfSense for advanced firewall and router features. Team that with Ubiquiti Unifi WAPs for complete coverage of the whole house. ;-)
Can this manually self choose 2.4G or 5G?
Nope, it has band steering and AP steering that will automatically choose the best band and channel for your device.
192.168.68.1 but still no advance options 😔
I am thinking of building a Plex media server and want to be able to have 5 or 4 4k streams at one time and am new to Plex, could you give me some tips or something useful?
Can you also review the Asus Lyra mesh system Thanks
Any news on the update?
404 error on all Plex links. Reported as phishing, and unsafe according to MS Edge Chromium.
Thorough video. Thanks for sharing.
lol why not adding a single AP AC1750 at half price of the Deco M5 !!! i don't understand !!!!!

*benefit* derp
I don't understand cannot properly I not done need.
You don't have to hard wire them but I'll probably shame you if you don't.
I would just buy a cheaper ASUS router or anything that can have third party firmware like Merlin or Gargoyle
I need to get some ubiquitis
Good choice! Ubiquiti FTW!

The UAP AC LITEs are very nice. I have got 3 of them, great stable wifi everywhere in the house!
yeah, i think ill only need one if i place it strategically... but they're still quite expensive at like £80 for one.
I am really against parental controls for kids over 10, then i feel it becomes more spying then actual protecting. Before then its absolutly fine.
His eyes are so watery
use some 3rd party firmware on cheaper hardware, teach your self a little linux and boom money save and enterprise class networking is born.
This would be great for maybe my grandma. big fail
