As along time crocheter, I always wondered how one would cast on for a circular knit project. This gives me so many ideas on how to combine both worlds.
Thanks for the video! Present-day new knitters are so lucky. They have all these clear, easy-to-follow youtube videos. When I learnt to knit I had to figure out myself how to start and end, etc. That was past 60 years ago when I was lucky if I found some old knitting instruction booklet. Norman's instructions are among the best on TH-cam. Thanks for teaching this craft. When I moved to the USA 40 years ago nobody was knitting, I was afraid that it was a skill that would go lost. Later on, I met some knitters but never found in here anyone knitting continental way. They were surprised to see how much faster the continental way was compared to English knitting.
This was so thorough. I know how to do magic loop in crochet and was pleased to see it used here, in addition to a clear tutorial for the pinhole cast on. Thank you, Norman. ❤
Vielen Vielen Dank! Besten Dank! Danke sehr! After struggling for hours with my pinhole cast on w/ other methods, I finally thought "I'll bet Nimble Needles has a good tutorial". The methods you show in your video are the best I have seen. I especially like the crochet method and it is what finally helped me be successful. I could have saved myself hours of time and frustration if I had just come to you first. 💗
Hi Norman. What an interesting video! I’ve seen a few short videos on the pinhole cast on but yours is the absolute best! Who knew that there are so many ways to do this! Thanks for another amazing tutorial!❤
I feel like a toe up sock would be good for this type of cast on. Something I'm trying to learn how to make, and I might try this cast on with the next one to see if it makes a difference.
I knew how to do the crochet magic ring, but never knew about the pinhole cast on! I haven’t knitted anything that would need this in a long while, but I’m glad to learn of it in case I ever need it again. Thank you for the informative video.
For the crochet version, I like to do the single crochets as if I was going to do an 8 sctog (but I never finish the tog part), where I only pull through one loop instead of both to complete the stitch. That way I end up with 8 stitches on the hook ready to to transfer to needles. It also makes the stitches in the center a little less bulky than finishing a ring and then picking up. It looks pretty much indistinguishable from knitting.
I watched this because i always find your videos interesting and fun to watch even if i think I'll never use that specific technique. But less than a week later i found myself needing to do a pinhole cast-on 😂 So glad I knew exactly where to go! Thank you again, Norman! 💜
This is SO helpful. I've been making the Vivid blanket from Tin Can Knits, and have not been enjoying the process of beginning the squares with a pinhole cast on, which I never seem to get right. Your video makes it perfectly clear at last. Thank you!
Love this, Norman! Thank you so much for showing me multiple options to add to my stitch arsenal. I can see this as a better, less fussy, beginning to my beanies. 🥰 🤟💜✌️🧶
Hi Norman. Thank you for sharing how to do the pin hole cast on. I have been over You Tube trying to be able to get started. I just came across your podcast for this and I am going to give it a try. Do you have a podcast to show how to knit the magic Loop? I cannot remember which needle to pull out. the top or bottom. Thank you, Thank you so much.
I watched so many videos on pinhole cast on. Yours is - as always - the best. Thanks
Absolutely THE BEST tutorial on that technique on TH-cam.
Excellent, clear instructions, thank you!
Wow, thanks!

Best version I've seen of the pinhole cast on, which I have found to be a pain in the neck, you make this look so easy. Thank You.
It was so fun to watch you crochet. I learned crocheting decades ago and am a two-year old knitter now.
ha...well...I should do it more often...but so little time!
