  • Association between vitamin D supplementation and COVID-19 infection and mortality

    (12th November 2022)
    Johns Hopkins
    University of Michigan

Department of Medicine, University of Chicago
    Department of Veterans Health Affairs
Department of Medicine, University of Chicago, Chicago
Vitamin D deficiency, associated with reduced immune function,
    can lead to viral infection
Vitamin D deficiency, associated, increases the risk of COVID-19
But is it a treatment / prognosis improver?
Population of US veterans, we show that Vitamin D2 and D3 fills
Associated with reductions in COVID-19 infection
    After applying all restrictions
    220,265 supplemented with vitamin D3
    34,710 supplemented with vitamin D2
    407,860 untreated patients.
    Study design
    Retrospective cohort
Supplemented (before and during the pandemic),
    versus untreated controls
    One to one matches
    D2, D3, or calcifediol
Veterans Administration Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) electronic health records.
Vitamin D levels typically respond to treatment following two months of exposure
    D3 cohort
    COVID-19 rates for the treated = 2.66%
    COVID-19 rates for the untreated = 3.30%
    D3 20%, reduction
    D2 28% reduction
Mortality within 30-days of COVID-19 infection
Infection ending in mortality within 30 days
    D3 group
Treated group death rate after infection = 0.23%
Untreated group death rate after infection = 0.35%
    Vitamin D3 33% mortality lower (HR, 67%)
    P  less than  0.001
Vitamin D2 25% lower (HR, 75%) (but not significant)
Veterans receiving higher dosages of Vitamin D obtained greater benefits from supplementation than veterans receiving lower dosages.
    Vitamin D blood levels between 0 and 19 ng/ml,
exhibited the largest decrease in COVID-19 infection and mortality following supplementation
    (0-19 ng/ml, 20-39 ng/ml, and 40 + ng/ml)
    Dosage options, 20 IU, 40 IU, 100 IU, 125 IU, 200 IU, 250 IU, 400 IU, 500 IU, 800 IU, 1000 IU, 2000 IU, 5000 IU, 8000 IU, and 50,000 IU
Black veterans received greater associated COVID-19 risk reductions, with supplementation than White veterans
As a safe, widely available, and affordable treatment, Vitamin D may help to reduce the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic.
    More background
Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency affect approximately half of the US population,
with increased rates in people with darker skin,
    reduced sun exposure,
people living in higher latitudes in the winter,
    nursing home residents,
    and healthcare workers
Populations with low levels of Vitamin D have also experienced higher rates of COVID-19
    New mechanism
Vitamin D is needed to allow T helper cells to control and reduce Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) production
    Conclusions
These associated reductions in risk are substantial and justify more significant exploration and confirmation using RCTs.
This is particularly important given the high rates of vitamin D deficiency in the US population and COVID-19.
Extrapolate, D3 supplementation to the entire US population in 2020
4 million fewer COVID-19 cases (19,860,000 actual cases)
116,000 deaths avoided (351,999 actual deaths)
    Given our findings,
the absence of severe side effects,
the widespread availability of vitamin D3 at low cost,
vitamin D3 presents a unique opportunity to reduce the spread and severity of the COVID-19 pandemic.
    K2, MK-7
Supplement, probably 100 micrograms per day
    Nato, 1,000 micrograms per 100 g
    Cheese, typically 50 micrograms per 100 g
    Safe and effective
    UK, GP incentives to vaccinate
    Home, £30
Standard reimbursement to Primary Care Networks (which then gets passed to GPs) £15
    New contract, £12.58 each

I have heard that Dr. John Campbell is in the pocket of Big Overhead Projector Lobby.
Rumour is that he has accepted tens of dollars of under the table expenses.

My GP told me to take Vit D3 two years ago. He also told me not to take the shot and gave sound reasons as to why. Needless to say, he had his medical licence revoked about 6 months later and is still battling authorities. Many of us still visit him (at his home) as he is a brilliant doctor but we take veggies from our garden, eggs from our chooks etc as payment - ridiculous state of affairs.

    • @Bob-nu2qo
      @Bob-nu2qo ปีที่แล้ว +30

I pushed my parents too, as well as my fiance. I started taking vitamin D3 in 2018/2019 after needing 5 weeks off work per year due to colds. I was deficient with 7 ng/l at the time. After I boosted my values to about 40ng/l and higher, I had one cold every two years. For me, that's enough evidence, since I didn't change any other part of my lifestyle. For respiratory diseases, vitamin D3 appears like a miracle to me. It's only logical, because if you think about it, the whole process of evolution from dark to fair skin in the northern hemisphere was solely to have a better way to build up vitamin D3 from the sun. The evolutionary pressure must have been enormous. I think vitamin D3 might be the most overlooked supplement...

You have probably done more to help people than the so-called experts paraded by the NHS and Govt. Sadly, you look and sound, at times, as badly betrayed and dismayed by the NHS as the rest of us. This has been a massive eye opener for John…
Unfortunately for him, but fortunately for us, it gives us a glimpse into how indoctrinated the majority of modern health care professionals become through their institutions of education and thereafter by the lobbyists and representatives of big medicine. It is sad, he’s better off knowing the truth now than forever being in the dark.

@@ClihtYeastwood - I think the extent of the corruption and deceit has shocked quite a few people, I know at least a couple of long term MPs who are also more and more shocked as each revelation creeps out. A lot of the public have lost all trust in the police, and many have lost a lot of trust in the Govt and even the NHS sadly (TikTok videos did not go down well really). Social Credit systems of control are fast approaching, surveillance systems are already in place and Govts already have their eyes on digital currencies. The next ten years are likely to see some of the largest changes to lifestyles since the initial Industrial Revolution, and maybe since hunter gatherers became a thing.

Magnesium is a super important cofactor of d3, the more d3 you take, the higher your magnesium need for d levels to rise. Frequent transdermal applications plus a magnesium capsule one or two through the day. As for zinc, much more effective when taken with quercetin which is a zinc ionophore that aids uptake into the cells.

I had doubled my previous best competitive bike racing physique, gotten severely depressed, arthritic, low back pain, recently pre-diabetic and lots of constant infections. Even though I was insufficiently Rx'd at 5,000IU/day for a morbidly obese person, I stopped catching any flus or colds just before Covid.
Once I raised my dosage to 20,000IU/day to reach an evolutionarily optimal 54ng/ml, and just before the jabs came available, I still caught Covid, but along with the identifying anosmia, I had ONLY a half day of mild sore throat I hadn't felt in a couple years! Also, my long-term depression & many pains subsided!

Isn't it interesting that many of these studies on vitamin D went poof a few years ago? I remember Mercola pointing that out. Now it's ok to point it out, I guess. This was proven early on and well, it's probably the nost obvious thing ever as they have always boosted immunity.
If this were a legitimate epidemic we'd have had ,alongside all the insistence to "stay home, stay safe" lockdown announcements reminders to take these vitamins and also to eat healthily ,vegetables and vitamin rich foods etc. I wondered this many times. If they were serious about all this theyd have distributed vitamin d amd vitamin packs for free for citizens , not just "get vaxxed get vaxxed get vaxxed" it could well even be more effective than the vax.

I did get Strep throat once early on, but I can pinpoint that to breathing a lot of attic dust just before I got it. During covid I basically took no precautions. Didn't wear a mask unless I was forced to enter a store or health facility. Didn't slop myself up with sanitizer and didn't even do other than my normal handwashing routine (yuck or dirt then wash hands.) I'm 70, diabetic, mildly obese, high blood pressure... all the warning signs. Don't know if Vitamin D kept me from catching covid. I suspect I did and it was such a mild case I never noticed it. I have, however refused the "vaccines" for covid after researching why MRNA was developed and how little actual testing was done on the shots. I'm not "anti-vax", I'm anti-poorly tested vaccines.

So it seems yet again the medical system knew this along time ago and kept it from the people. The people must also take some responsibility as they handed all control away. 💗

Dear Mark, sorry to burst your bubble, but I can say with confidence that increasing your dosage of vit D was probably not related to your ulcer healing quickly. It was most probably just a coincidence that's made you think it was the vit D and that is because blood vitamin D levels take several weeks or longer to increase after supplementation, even with much larger doses of vitamin D (10,000 IU). 5 days with just 1000 IU will have zero effect, if it was 3 weeks after the increase, then it would seem more plausible.
There are many studies that are available online which involve monitoring blood vit D levels in subjects, and it's well established that levels take a long time (2-4 months) to increase after supplementation.

on the other hand you don't need testing to find out if you're vitamin D deficient because everyone is, even surfers according to one study. unless you have a really weird lifestyle where you walk around bare-chested in midday without sunscreen you're very likely not in the ideal range of 50-80ng/ml, probably not even at the beneficial minimum of 30ng.

I am a nurse of 17+ years and I have worked in a ton of care homes. I read a book years ago from a doctor in California about vit D deficiency sometime around 2007. In that book the author spoke about the reduced sunlight for northern latitudes due to the angle of the light entering the atmosphere (I live in central/northern Canada) and the fact that the daily recommended dose was determined by giving just enough vit D to prevent kids from getting rickets. I have taken 10,000 IUD (I'm 6'2 260lbs) for years and I pleaded with care homes to install full spectrum lights to help the residence get the required vit d/sunlight. I once read that seniors need to drink 4 liters of "fortified (with vit D)" milk a day to get the required levels of vit D- very unrealistic. For many seniors, once they move into a care home, they rarely or never go outside. We rob them of all access to vit D and we wonder why many take a bit of a dip medically once they move it. I had heard this was due to people no longer being able to "compensate" or now that they were in a safe place, they could relax a bit and the disease progression becomes more apparent. I can see that as a logical conclusion but helping to ensure healthy levels of vit D would likely remove contributing factors. My requests fell on deaf ear 99% of the time but now covid is showing the importance of vit D, maybe it will change. I also grew up in the Pacific northwest, where it rains all winter, and you see seasonal effective disorder often - easily treatable. To me, logic would dictate that the most depressing place would be places where it gets -40 or colder but it turns out "not enough sunlight" is a bigger factor. I bet there is an Irish person reading this right now and thinking the same thing about spending winter under a grey dome. 😁

    • @loricalass4068
      @loricalass4068 ปีที่แล้ว

@Bob as usual, when you do your homework, and understand real science and real genetics, you find out that what you’re being told is evolution is the exact opposite of evolution.
Yes, some people have more fair skin in some climates. But they are every bit as much human, Homo sapiens, as their darker skinned brothers and sisters. Neither group is evolving into anything but more people.
We see dark dogs and light dogs, dark red roses, and light, yellow roses, but whatever they are staying dogs and roses.
If fair skinned people are evolving differently than dark skin people, what are they evolving into? Of course the evolutionists never touch that question.
If you want to take a look outside the box, I suggest starting with the short and funny video SEX Crevo rant 13.
But there are creation resources all over the net demolishing the laughable pseudo science of evolution.

@@loricalass4068 that's bullshit, sorry. There was a reason why people evolved to have fair skin in the northern hemisphere, and it was vitamin D generation. That's science. Those people adopted during a time where there were no vitamin D pills. What we need is mass vitamin D supplementation to cope with this now, especially for dark skinned people. Every misacknowledgement of this fact will make dark skinned people in the north suffer, as they have during COVID because they have on average lower vitamin D levels. @@Bob-nu2qo Fair skinned people changed. Life forms change all the time, but within strict limits genetically.
What are the fair skinned evolving into? Well exactly 0. They are still just as much Homo sapiens as their darker skinned fellows. Just like a white dog is just as much a dog as a black dog.
They interbreed with one another totally successfully because they are all the same species.
So what do you think those fair skinned people are evolving into? And what is the data that you have to present to show that they’re gonna stop being Homo sapiens
      like the dark skinned people?
I’ve got data. It shows they are staying just as much people has any color of humans on planet earth.
All of evolution is a lie. One of the biggest lies is that change is evolution. No it isn’t! You’ve changed from your ancestors. But every last one of you was and is 100% a Homo sapiens.
You see absolutely zero evolution. That’s because there ain’t any.
Oh, wait. People like Richard Dawkins will tell you that you evolved from bacteria. That’s because he totally ignores and even contradicts the actual data.
What is the actual data? Bacteria have been observed pretty much around the clock since 1670, around the world. They change! As I said, life forms do change within limits.
But all the bacteria that have been observed are staying solidly, bacteria, in their bacterial domain.
ancient fossilized, bacteria have been found. And they are very little different from modern bacteria.
So there is exactly 0 evidence that they are capable of turning into you.
Dawkins also says that we evolved
from things like jellyfish and sponges and sea anemones, and so on. Again, what is the data?
We have countless millions, even billions, of fossils. Most of them are sea life forms. all the sea worms and sponges, and so on that he says that we come from are seen to always, without exception, to be 100% things like seaworms, and sponges. No in-betweeners anywhere.
Only in the lying narratives of Evolutionists, who conveniently make up fairytales about what happened in the invisible and unverifiable long ago and far away.
Wake up. You are being majorly scammed. Find out who you really are. It ain’t a bacteria update or fish update or monkey update or whatever.
If you are on this channel, you may have awakened up to what is going on in the world with the so-called elite in regard to this plan..demic and the shots.
Guess what? The scam started way before then. And evolution is part of the scam.
The so-called elite want to be your gods. And they certainly don’t want you to turn to the One who truly can help you when they come against the world.

Important note on D2 and D3!
D2, never mind the question of how effective it is, cannot be stored for very long in the body! But D3 can be stored for extended periods, meaning if you supplement regularly with D3, whatever is absorbed and not immediately used is stored more than long enough. This also means that the D3 your body makes with the help of sunlight or UV lamps will last you much longer than what it takes to fill up your reserves.

I wanted to add another benefit to taking Vitamin D and I have seen very thorough investigations as done through Loma Linda University in California.
There is a very disturbing genetic problem in my family where getting breast cancer is involved. (I say it is genetic because I am not a medical researcher . But, granted, there can be other factors causing breast cancer especially in a particular family).
Personally I had "precursor" symptoms of an impending breast cancer a long time ago. Cystic disease, pain on the right side and extreme hyperesthesia. All very unpleasant. After years of the above I read about the study from Loma Linda University and decided to at least try it. (Just as a note, my doctor from the time when these problems first started recommended pretty high dosages of vitamin E and my condition did improve. But the improvement waned over the next few years.)
I began taking good healthy doses of Vitamin D about 7years ago. I had a great improvement and oddly enough I can tell when I need more vitamin D because this awful nagging pain will start up. When I, up temporarily my dosage the pain (like it is there to warn me of a problem). There is really a dramatic improvement. For whomever might be fighting this condition such as I have no harm can be done by trying this.

I and many other had covid with zero symptoms i take Vit D and have for years, i dont get colds and my last flu was 45 yrs ago. I am of pensionable age.
A fuss over a man made cold virus that harms few if they look after themselves, and pray!

This past Friday for Veteran's Day we had dinner with my brother who is a 5 year veteran for the Army National Guard. The next morning, his wife and youngest child started feeling sick. Fast forward to yesterday and they were diagnosed with the Flu B. We were around them all evening giving hugs, holding their kids, eating together. I know we shared germs yet our family is not sick. Praise God 🙏🏻. We take Vit D3, K2, zinc, and magnesium daily. Plus methylated B vitamins as we have the MTHFR genetic mutation. We add natural Vit C when needed.
    **Edited to add**
that we also eat MUCH healthier than my brother's family. They live on fast food/processed food. We eat very healthy. So I'm sure this plays a huge role in our health as well.

Creatine monohydrate should be added to that. Data is pretty much there, for it. Not just for physical activity but for mental and cognitive functions.
