    Imagine being so confident in your product that you help provide the media with exactly the tools they need to tell if your product is good or bad. Good job, Seasonic.

      I purchased a Seasonic power supply because of the great rep like 6 years ago, not even one of the top tiers and only 620 watts. I have upgraded to a 3070 and a Ryzen 5600X and it still works perfectly even on 100% loads (on the graphics card at least). Between the rep, my experience and knowing they are promoting the fair and full testing of their products (and the competition's) makes me think I will continue to use them on any future upgrade.

    • @c2thew
      @c2thew ปีที่แล้ว +210

      Correct. This is a huge advantage for seasonic for putting their money where there mouth is. A third party validating their results is a huge win for the brand. Watching the competition fail with false advertising will keep trusted brands on top.

    "I know for some of you this feels like not enough progress."
    Fuck that. The Lab already feels like Wonka's Chocolate Factory meets the Foot Clan Hideout. This will have a measurable impact on the industry and Im so fascinated by it. And also so grateful you guys are able to update us on the nitty gritty. When you are breaking barriers, changing an industry and building as yet unheard of systems: I think the best thing you can do is catalog the process and share the journey.

      Yeah, anyone who's attempted to construct a home lab/workshop understands that it takes a lot of time (and that's not even industrial-scale equipment LTT labs is doing). Add the ongoing (though slowly abating) chip shortage making certain things more difficult to acquire. Given that they're already churning out data, I'd say they're well on target.

      I's also a big insight into what sort of timelines industrial side of things work versus consumer products.
      We get a launch date a few weeks before things are on the shelves to buy (in theory). Seeing even the price on industrial stuff is a chore, it's all 'price upon request' etc and can be shocking how long it can be for a product to arrive. Like getting that oscilloscope after select which want , and i assume it's similarly high end. Or the costing for that TDK foam they imported.
      Also having to build the team with actual expertise.

    • @edwardscott3262
      @edwardscott3262 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Well considering how much companies spend on advertising they have a huge discretionary spending budget when it comes to paying "influencers".
      One bad power supply by a large company could result in a huge perfectly legal "windfall". Paying for better press is legal for businesses. It's also way more common than people think.
      LTT is probably going to get a major education in what's not only legal in business, but also considered a fiduciary duty.
      While bribery, stalking, harassment and everything else is illegal for normal people. For businesses it's not only legal it's encouraged.
      A great example of all the above is movie promotions. Any time you have ever seen a movie star talking about their new movie on TV news or elsewhere the studio is paying for that.

    As a software developer who constantly underestimates timelines, I completely understand the delays. You make your plan based upon everything you know, add some contingencies, and then get schooled by all of the things you didn't know. However, the truth is that you can never know everything that can go wrong. The trick is to do it anyway.

    I actually work in the Private 4G/5G space (although in the US). That firecell seems like a nice piece of kit! By the way, its very easy to provision your own SIMs from blank cards, most companies charge waaaaay too much for just provisioning SIM cards. (Custom eSIMs are pretty tricky, but I've gotten them)

    • @XxSForrestxX
      @XxSForrestxX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s really cool! It seems extraordinarily difficult to find good information on much of anything cellular network related - and while I found a DEFCON talk about programming SIM cards, trying to find basic information on how to interface with them, see the raw info on them, learn more about their capabilities and how they work in verifying that you’re a subscriber, I guess it’s too “nothing you’d do at home,” and maybe too obscure. What sorts of programs/tools do you use to work with them?

    • @benwu7980
      @benwu7980 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the Firecell kits come with a smartphone and a sim. I've not used a sim reader or programmer since 2g era so I'm not sure how that's gonna work for them testing other phones. Would have to assume they just get network unlocked phones and use the sim provided by Firecell. Also I don't think they need worry about licensing authorities for that kit, it's very low range, even if was just outside the chamber it wouldn't reach outside the building.

      If the analysis is based on data that they collected themselves, there's no chance of a lawsuit succeeding. If anything, they can go harder in misleading advertising as they can test to such a higher level.
      They're using the exact same equipment that the manufacturers use themselves - when they first specced the PSU tester it was actually better specced than Seasonic's own one. Don't think that manufacturers won't buy the competition's product and use their own testing equipment on it to compare the products to make sure theirs is better.

    Well, this raise 2 questions:
    1) How do you test the power supply of the power supply tester?
    2) When are you gonna watercool it?

    Good decision for Linus to step down as CEO. Look at how much fun he's having. He always has fun, but he seems both more relaxed and hyped at the same time.

    Actually that's a lot more progress than I anticipated. Well done guys! People might not realize it but go and do some small fixes around the house and see how much of your day goes by. Things take time, and just getting that empty warehouse to a state such as it is currently is incredible. Again - great job.

    FINALLY! SCIENCE!
    This is what customers needed! You'll be the leader of testing of consumer computer/gamer hardware! This'll change things, but it'll take some time.

    Love what all of this means. I can see what Linus is doing with all of the right to repair, testing and showcasing when companies lie or are true to their word. This is very admirable!
    Every client and consumer should be thankful!
