And many of them were like that. Either sacrificing themselves for their clan or for the emperor. Ruyi and Hailan stand out because for Hailan she’d sacrifice herself for Ruyi but Hailan was too smart. And Ruyi while she’d also do anything for Hailan, I think Ruyi tried to help anyone who was basically an innocent being abused by someone in power, like how she got Rongpei and the acts she did that made Hailan so loyal but all were done selflessly. Ruyi would even be willing to face the emperors wrath like when Hailan was being made to kneel in the snow by that skank, Ruyi was willing to speak against someone above her in the harem to protect her.
That comment is basically the slap in the face the Emperor needed to wake up and realize what was going on with him and Ryui at the very end. Wei tells him that exact statement: You use everyone for heirs and blah blah and guess what? We do the same. No one here really 'loves you' oh wait. I don't feel bad for them their ambition to be at the top of a harem was all of their downfalls. He couldn't love 20 women and favorites came and went. Ruyi was the only one who didn't let it change who she was on the inside. She wasn't consumed by hatred and bitterness even after what was done to her by these women.

So she must of had many tricks to still be loved by Emperor Qianlong to become Imperial Noble Consort. Her son even gained the throne even though the 15th prince was not a legitimate son.

I always wondered If Mei Pin was rude to Gao because of orders of Empress Dowager or if she genuinely was like that. Its sad but Mei Pin knew her end wasn’t gonna be good because she was working for the emperor’s spy. Also it hurts to see Ruyi realizing once again the emperor is not the man she think. You can see the disappointment in her face
Yeah I wished we saw more interactions between Mei and Empress Dowager. We know Empress Dowager hated Hui's father, so in return Dowager secretly poisoned Hui, so I assume Mei was just doing what Dowager was wanting her to do.
Don't forget Mei also tried to frame Ruyi for poisoning the cream she was putting on her face(when Hui slapped her)....it wasn't Ruyi, Mei did it to herself.

Chileee watch the drama first 😭 it was because of the scheming and false accusations from other concubines only then did she kill another. The Emperor would never lead someone to kill his first Empress.
Consort Shu was one of the saddest. The emperor kept her from conceiving only because the empress dowager had picked her for his court. She didn't even want to spy for the empress dowager and actually loved him. Once she finally had a child it ended getting sick and dying and she killed herself as a result. Especially when she found out the emperor was tricking her with medicine that wouldn't let her conceive
The Empress Dowager didn't really care about the Emperor, she was just worried about losing power and control over the Emperor and Harem or getting killed by any of them. Also, she was not his birth mother but a foster mom, so it was natural that they both were wary of each other. It was common in royal families in ancient times. Foster moms had to spy on their Emperor sons to safeguard their retirement.
The harem is a kill or be kill world 💀 if you can go from being an attendent to empress or empress dowager you truly deserve it because this place is a snake pit 😬🚮
Very hard to disagree with you but in saying that there was only a few who were truly vicious and evil the rest sadly believed their scheming and lies and followed them...... about the only true one in my opinion is Ruyi and yet she was treated so badly.... How many deaths and for what?.... so sad. But the acting in this series is totally stunning the actors play their part so very very well.
I have a theory that every woman's death in the harem in this series was carried out in defiance of the Emperor -- all the way up to the highest ranking. In this case, Bai Ruiji doesn't give a single damn about the Emperor anymore, she only cares about being reunited with her unborn child and goes to her fate secure in knowing Ruyi cares enough to make that happen. Really goes to show the difference in sentiment between the "parents of the nation"... It's also interesting to contrast her fate with that of Consort Shu if you've seen that part already. Two women planted by the Empress Dowager, but so different in the nature of their feelings for the Emperor... I feel like you can be happy for Ruiji here in a way that's very hard in Yihuan's case.
The emperor does have difficulties in recognize his women, that's why each concubine have different shoe design so that he could recognize them through their shoe.😂
She was nasty when she got pregnant, making snide remarks about Ruyi and the other consort not being able to conceive. She also tried to frame Ruyi for her face wound so i cant really feel pity for her.
I think it was because Ruyi was there. Sulian had already tried the cream. She couldn't frame her, so the only one was Ruyi. Mei was looking for attention. The mistake Mei made was being so braggy about being Pregnant.

I always wondered If Mei Pin was rude to Gao because of orders of Empress Dowager or if she genuinely was like that. Its sad but Mei Pin knew her end wasn’t gonna be good because she was working for the emperor’s spy. Also it hurts to see Ruyi realizing once again the emperor is not the man she think. You can see the disappointment in her face
Yeah I wished we saw more interactions between Mei and Empress Dowager. We know Empress Dowager hated Hui's father, so in return Dowager secretly poisoned Hui, so I assume Mei was just doing what Dowager was wanting her to do.
Don't forget Mei also tried to frame Ruyi for poisoning the cream she was putting on her face(when Hui slapped her)....it wasn't Ruyi, Mei did it to herself.

Chileee watch the drama first 😭 it was because of the scheming and false accusations from other concubines only then did she kill another. The Emperor would never lead someone to kill his first Empress.
Consort Shu was one of the saddest. The emperor kept her from conceiving only because the empress dowager had picked her for his court. She didn't even want to spy for the empress dowager and actually loved him. Once she finally had a child it ended getting sick and dying and she killed herself as a result. Especially when she found out the emperor was tricking her with medicine that wouldn't let her conceive
The Empress Dowager didn't really care about the Emperor, she was just worried about losing power and control over the Emperor and Harem or getting killed by any of them. Also, she was not his birth mother but a foster mom, so it was natural that they both were wary of each other. It was common in royal families in ancient times. Foster moms had to spy on their Emperor sons to safeguard their retirement.

Very hard to disagree with you but in saying that there was only a few who were truly vicious and evil the rest sadly believed their scheming and lies and followed them...... about the only true one in my opinion is Ruyi and yet she was treated so badly.... How many deaths and for what?.... so sad. But the acting in this series is totally stunning the actors play their part so very very well.
I have a theory that every woman's death in the harem in this series was carried out in defiance of the Emperor -- all the way up to the highest ranking. In this case, Bai Ruiji doesn't give a single damn about the Emperor anymore, she only cares about being reunited with her unborn child and goes to her fate secure in knowing Ruyi cares enough to make that happen. Really goes to show the difference in sentiment between the "parents of the nation"...
It's also interesting to contrast her fate with that of Consort Shu if you've seen that part already. Two women planted by the Empress Dowager, but so different in the nature of their feelings for the Emperor... I feel like you can be happy for Ruiji here in a way that's very hard in Yihuan's case.

I think it was because Ruyi was there. Sulian had already tried the cream. She couldn't frame her, so the only one was Ruyi. Mei was looking for attention. The mistake Mei made was being so braggy about being Pregnant.
